Gassing would be fine IF they changed the method to inert gas asphyxiation (nitrogen is the most common IIRC, very common in the atmosphere, a few other gases also work). It does not induce panic or pain, as the typical feeling of asphyxiation comes from the presence of carbon dioxide, not the lack of oxygen. You essentially pass out painlessly and then never wake up.

When we had our dog put down last year it was like $200. Very emotional. She was 16 years old but had a lot of medical issues. Basically it was like she just went to sleep. Watching her slowly lower her head onto her paws was sad Bc I knew it meant she was about to fall asleep then die. Due to Covid restrictions, we had to do it OUTSIDE though, behind the vet with her laying on a towel and I could hear cars going by. Best dog I ever had, rest easy old girl

I had to let my dog go a month ago. It was like 120 for her. She was on the small side. I think the price goes by weight. None of my family could handle being there so I had to take her myself. It was so bad, I had to carry her out afterwards in front of everyone it was really shameful, like I did something to my dog but really she was just sick.

Firing squad and hanging are the most effective and painless methods, there have only been a handful of botched firing squads, and thoes were done intentionally. So firing squads are affective, and hangings are quick as well.

Inert gas asphyxiation is clearly the correct answer. It also doesn’t require a room sized gas chamber, it can be done with a bag or mask. You would lose consciousness rather quickly and pass in a short time after.

As long as you hit him right....i saw my friends dad use a 9mm pistol on his dying black lab. This took multiple shots and it was fucked up because he made a bad first shot. Back in day families of the condemned would actually hang from their legs to speed things up as an act of mercy. I've also read some horrifying accounts of people on the electric chair, think the green mile but so much worse, blood coming out of the eyes & ears, flames coming from all over yet when they switch the power off you are still alive! One case went on like this for around half an hour before being successful. I've never looked into the gas chamber or injections but firing squad would definitely be my preference.
