Spot on with the CPU bottleneck topic. I'm running a 5950x with a bit of PBO tuning and a 4080. At 1440p it's not a problem at all, especially with modern games. I've been intentionally sitting out the initial wave of Zen 4 in anticipation of the 9000 series CPU's. I try to get as much as I can out of my hardware between upgrades. As long as it's doing what I need it to do in a reasonable amount of time, I never chase every generation. I think you can get away with two generations of GPU's on a single platform.

I feel the same about my 5900x, I’m on 1080p, got 3 screens and almost never get above 60% cpu usage. When I was younger I was running x264 slow now I’m just gaming. - I like watching 4k KZbin on my right screen. Gaming on my middle screen. Discord on my left screen (vertical).

Same here. I have a 5800x and a 4080 playing at 4k 120hz and I was tempted to get the 7800x3d, but I'll probably wait till AMD 9000 series like you. The 5800x still holds up well in most games and doesn't bottleneck the 4080 too much, especially at 4k.
@C0d0ps10 ай бұрын
@@josh8oh8 In 1080p you’d bottleneck the 4080 in almost every game. In 4k you’re probably fine, but idk what refresh rate you’re targeting. For 144 hz I’d say a cpu upgrade could help.

Same here I’m using 5800X with 3090 and play in 4K. There’s no need to upgrade cpu. 5000 are relatively new and will keep going strong for some time. I might upgrade GPU in future.

I think a 4070TI Super is pretty reasonable. 4080 Super at the very most. 4090.... if you're on 4K and have that kind of money. But that just seems grossly unnecessary.

Even at 4k a ti super is great for 95% of games ever made. Sure it won't play Alan wake 2 at max settings with high framerates.... But nothing does 😂

I wish I could pair a 4080 SUPER with a 7800X3D, but I'll need plenty of money and good enough reasons for all that power.

Is great. If that is what you can afford go for it (I got one for my wife to go with a 7800x3D). Is a better value than all other high end VGA atm. Just know is a notch down compared to her bigger sister 7900xtx and the 4080/4080 super, and 2 notches down compared to the all powerful and expensive 4090.

What is your opinion on DLSS and FSR? My opinion is its a scam and people fell for it fully. Having to render the game in a lower resolution then stretch it to your screens resolution to get good FPS is lazy. You are not getting 100+ fps in 4k you are getting 100+ in 2k stretched. I Have 7800x3d, 7900xt combo so I can use high to ultra settings in 1080p. "Why did you spend the money on that when...?" So I don't have to use the FSR/DLSS. I am still maxing out my GPU over my CPU. I am also using 6-12Gb+ of Vram when people still say "You are only going to use 8Gb". I find it false in my real world gaming.

The upscaling shenanigans are kind of complex, the upscalers by themselves are not a scam BUT the way they are marketed are borderline scammy. Bad practices in the AAA gaming industry makes dev use basically everything they can to "optimize" games (because they have a kind of out of touch sense of good performance, mostly because of bad practices like I said earlier not really the devs fault) so the upscalers are useful for that. I also don't like this whole upscale mess but sadly is not gonna go away so we are better off testing them for ourselves and see in which case is worth using or not.

DlSS doesn't stretch the resolution. DLSS take things steps further than FSR. Essentially it's a smarter upscale. Regarding upscaling, if you have enough pixels, upscaling to a higher resolution isn't a scam. It upscales it to a higher resolution. The resolution of upscale to is the resolution that it upscale it to. It's not fake. 4K and 8K TVs do this all the time with video content. Sure, the quality of the upscale starting at like 480 and going to 1080 won't be great. But going from 1080 to 4k is fine. If it's DLSS and implemented in the games properly. It's no different than taking an old small photo and enlarging it with enhancements. The quality of the upscaler will determine the outcome. But also the resolution of the photo will also determine the outcome. But with AI you can have missing data that is filled in quite well most of the time.

I just went out and bought some parts to build a new system. My original idea was to get a 7800 X 3D chip to pair with my RTX 4090. But micro center had a 7900X on sale for only $10 more. So the 7800X 3D was $349. The 7900x was $359. I went with the 7900x. Do you think I made a mistake? Or is having more cores more future-proof? I love gaming but I also do some editing.

You made the right choice for not falling for the 7800x3D hype train. The 7800x3d is only good for 1080p and thats it nothing else. You will get the same performance with 1440p gaming with both the 7800x3d and 7900x but the difference in other tasks is non comparable. The 7900x blows the 7800x3d out of town

Good choice. Only a very select group of users should buy an 8 core cpu over a 12 core cpu of the same generation. Hypercompetitive gamers who care about 400 vs 500fps. The 7800x3d is faster to be sure, but as soon as you start to do anything else with your PC the 7900x will offer you a smoother experience. Even if you're "just gaming" more and more games are starting to leverage 8 or more cores to make the game run smoother. I would take a buttery smooth 100fps over a microstuttering 120fps all day long, no discussion.
