It's probably cliche to put this under a video about a creator's burnout, but gosh it's good to have you back. Even if this is the last video you post this decade, it is wonderful to have this update. Burnout can be so rough, and we all came to this channel because of your thoughts and your creativity, not because of the impossible standards or tight upload schedules you set for yourself. It is more than all right to take every second of time you need without worrying about doing things right, to do things at your pace so you can avoid pushing too fast. I hope the number of people who immediately jumped to watch this video demonstrates some of that; you vanished for ages and things were all right. We're just grateful for every video you put out because, much like you, this is just the type of stuff we love watching. And you are really good at it. Thank you for bringing your self and your style to us all, for being open about your struggles (because by the gods it felt like you were reading off the script of my own experiences with burnout), and I can't wait to watch however much or little your post in the future... at *your* pace

OH MY GOD! NEW VIDEO FROM DRAWPINATION DUMP! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! but seriously now, I missed hearing your voice so much and i hope you have been doing well :) Edit from after watching from the full video: I'm happy you are ok! We all understand the feeling of burnout of some sorts at some point when we experience for the first time, but, just like you said, you are not alone! We completely understand your need for a break and I hope that you have a nice rest! Just take it easy ok? Love your videos!

I remember watching you. I remember over summer vacation, visiting some family abroad, I had a lot of time to waste and little things to do so I started listening to video essays and fell in love with them. Then, then I found you, a chill smooth voice with relaxing music and a lovely sense of humor, I couldn't wish for something better! Binged it all, but still had cravings so I started watching the streams, I AM SO PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE MOST LOVELY GROUP OF PEOPLE I EVER MET! So dear Drawpinion, that toaster will wait for you, take your time, we'll always be here to watch it, maybe not this year, maybe not even this decade, but I promise to smash the like button! And dear you, the person reading this, if you are going through hardship its gonna be ok, grab some hot cocoa, a warm blanket and I promise you, it might take a while but everything will be fine by the end!

Being a creative with an audience, no matter the size, is a real double edged sword. It's great when you're able to produce your art and ride that validation, but when you're burned out and struggling, those eyes, those expectations weighing on you to Make The Next Thing, can make it even worse. Feeling like you owe other people your art on a timely schedule is crushing when you're in that slump. I follow you on Twitter so I knew you were okay, but I'm glad you were able to make this video talking about your burnout. Your videos were always a delight, I thought they were calming, interesting, and funny, no matter what the subject was, so I'll still be here when you have the strength to pick them back up again. Take your time, and be kind to yourself.

If it's something physical fair enough and if what you are describing is chronic fatigue that's a tough one. But it's something personal or an issue with being creative and artistic, I will give you the brutal honest truth about burnout and all these youtuber's describing burnout: it's because they have no true love for something creative or they are creating stuff which they know is meaningless. O yes it will entertain, it will amuse and it will pass the time- but true creativity and true artistry is hard work which drains the body and the mind. True art is about revealing something in this world or describing something about God's creation. It's about going in deep and getting lost in the sauce, it's about practice and getting good at something. If you go into because of infatuation or emulation of others it will start feeling empty and meaningless. The views, the popularity and the money are feel good factors, but the truer one is to oneself the quicker one feels emptiness, dissatisfaction and burnout with being creative. Calling youtubers creative or even being called "content creators" is one of the best jokes going, believe me the creative side of KZbin died out sometime in the 2010s, and its heyday was the 2000s. The Wild West of KZbin has been tamed and the number of truly creative KZbin channels, which either bring something new to the table or really make you think, can be counted by the fingers of your hands. I will also say this: create something when you hate it and when you think it's not right. If it's popular and rakes in the views just keep going. Creativity is a throw-something-into-the-wall-until-it-sticks approach but if you get more views and more money who cares if the quality varies? Sometimes you will hit a winning streak or hit the motherlode. If there is unfinished business and you want to create more videos then keeping going- you can always return to older videos later and make it better. Besides if the channel really did take off and that sweet, sweet ad-revenue and patreon donations came trickling in, that's more money to pay for bills, to buy stuff, heck to buy a new house or to get so much you can retire on it. Monetary security is peace of mind and may even help that fatigue of yours. Finally stop worrying about climate change and all these analytical fears- nuclear weapons are ready and waiting to wipe out America, Europe and Russia ever since the 1950s, a powerful solar storm could knock out the electrical grid and we go into Mad Max territory, the debt market blows up and hyperinflation and mass unemployment occurs, a virus could spread that kills hundreds of millions of people, etc. etc. etc. The time to fear such big things is when they happen- so why cripple oneself with fear or fret over the morality of it all. Live, make videos, and worry more about the harm one does to oneself and others. Live!

🎀 This video was definitely incredibly comforting to me. It's important to remember not to blame ourselves when we suffer burnout. While there are steps we can take to improve our mental health and keep up with creativity at a healthy pace, that doesn't mean that we're failures if we struggle to keep that healthy balance. Society wants us to work and work and work some more, and it's a HEFTY struggle to keep oneself alive, let alone pursue one's creative passions and not desperately overwork ourselves in said passions in an attempt to escape the neverending grind of capitalism. Point is, you're doing the best you can, don't pressure yourself too much. I struggle with that a fair bit myself. I've lucked out and have a friend who's willing to let me crash with them while I pursue my passions, so I'm trying to save up and get ready to move in with them as soon as possible. Not everyone is that lucky.

I went through a burnout because of the creative job and man if it isn't hard to just move around in that state. There is actually only one cure for it: lowering your expectations until you meet them. Burnput happens when you expend energy without a reward (wage, satisfaction etc) So today to do: laundry. And you are right about this being a global problem. Jee, what about constatly being pushed to the maximum at school and workspace, productivity gurus everywhere, wake up at 4 a.m. gang... Just chill and it also helps to cut down social media. It was good hearing you, I wish you all the best and please, work in your own time and don't worry!

so i needed a minute to get my words sorted out and while i think i might not have everything in order i think i can at least articulate enough for you to get the gist of it so what you do is you make room for people to breathe. you find the little spaces inbetween things and widen them so others have room to mull over and unpack their feelings and that is a super hard job. it is not a surprise that you have so much desire(you are an artist, art is your passion) in you to do this kind of hard work and even less of a surprise that your body gave out before your heart did(you are a human). you live in a culture that demonises rest(real rest not just trading hard labour for moderate labour) more than any other thing and rewards squeezing oneself absolutely dry as fast as possible. it will take time to refill yourself and you may not come away from this without permanent scarring but that is ok. you take all that you need to rest and to heal the best you can even if that means you'll be making that toaster video in 2033. also as that word of encouragement; you personally gave me room to look at the space between Good Art and Bad Art to see the value in small piddling things that were never aimed to be the best of its sort and never failed so hard as to be a warning, the general work-horses of art that served a need and said some things worth listening to and bowing out when it was done. i find myself with more grace for things(not just movies) that i didn't have before because you helped give me the space to exist in it for a while. thankyou

I’ve been somewhat in the same camp right now. About every year, I go through a period where I have a dry spell in my videos, as I often become too busy with my other work and responsibilities to not focus on videos. I’m also trying to be kind to myself about it, but I can definitely relate to that feeling of being just so tired every time I sit down to work on video stuff. Even though I am also relatively small potatoes on this platform, I don’t like the idea that this is just some hobby or side hustle. Like you, I make the stuff I make because it feels like an important element of who I am and how I express myself. All this to say, one of the things that has kept me going is getting to know other creators like you. I know that if I didn’t have other people that have gone through similar stuff, it would feel way more isolating. So thanks for sharing this, I hope it proves cathartic, because for what it’s worth, you’re too awesome a person to have to feel this way. Here’s to being able to continue fighting to make things better. Best wishes, Henry P.s. As someone who has made a video longer than 2 hours, my heart goes out to you! Would love to see how Zoey 101 turns out

Ive been hooked since your Moominvalley videos, and haven’t wanted to leave since. That being said, I’ll happily binge your past content anyways, eagerly awaiting your return to the valley one day. Now as you always like to say, thank youuuu, but in this case, we’ll be waiting! Take as long as you need, go enjoy some Brutalmoose lol

Burnout may feel like a personal failing/problem (because societally we often only discuss personal responsibility) but it's actually a systemic problem and one not only confined to KZbinrs. Just like climate change can't be solved by individually changing habits, burnout too won't be solved by individuals changing their work habits... We've got to understand the problem's source and collectively work together so no one feels alone in solving these problems.

Just wanted to raise awareness of just how much health issues can influence your mind. I use to suspect that I had clinical depression until I had some bloodwork done and found out my thyroid gland wasn't working. The synthetic hormone is cheap and easy to take, and sInce I started treatment, I feel better now than I did as a child.

This is a super helpful tip!! I also got some blood work done and I'm looking into my physical health along with my mental health; they really do go hand in hand

A funny (I think;) story: I'm 8, I'm home after school, super-comfy, reading a book. My dad comes home, and tells me about this swimming club that he, apparently, signed me up for. I look at him, and say - slowly and clearly - "But... when am I going to relax?" I am no longer 8, and I am now trying to remember to say this more often. ; ) Also - thank you! ;)
