As an American I must say, someone with pollys wealth would have already been at boarding school by default. It’s almost unheard of to have children of wealth enroll in public school. But yeah for some reason the trope of sending your children off to boarding/military school (usually as a punishment) is a lot more common in media than it is in real life here in the states. I don’t really understand it or why it came to be.
@13time3 жыл бұрын
I mean theres just privite school also in some wealthy areas the public schools are just really nice. So I would not say boarding school is the norm but also sending your kid to milltary school is not that wild I know a few kids who were sent there and they were not even bad kids.
@13time3 жыл бұрын
Also I think Polly lives in cali so it would not be that wild for her if she lives in a super nice area to go to public
@Anuyushi3 жыл бұрын
My younger sister finally got enrolled in boarding school because 1: Expensive as hell 2: They only accept a certain type of kid and middle class nobody wasn't it 3: They can be incredibly abusive to the children We finally got her into a good one because of a court order. I won't detail what she did to be sent to boarding school but it's VERY difficult and you can't just ship off someone else's kid
@nostalgicinmybones2 жыл бұрын
late reply, but i have a few theories about why this is such a common trope in fiction: 1) it minimizes adult interference. sure, there are teachers, and schedules that dictate where they can go and when, but ultimately these stories generally focus on found family and their relationship with their friends. parents can still be involved, or even antagonizing, but they aren’t generally a focus. 2) a sort of wish fulfillment. as the comment above me states, real life boarding schools aren’t typically friendly places to be. but made up ones can seem much more appealing than waking up at home and going to regular school for a young audience. it seems glamorous and exciting to have a freedom not known to most people under 18. there’s new challenges, sure, but they’re much different from their real life and therefore still seem appealing 3) simply following trends. especially in the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a boom in media set in boarding schools, and the more of those that were successful, the more that were made. 4) as a shorthand for a Scary Place you don’t want to end up, basically the opposite of wish fulfillment. it’s basically a maguffin Bad Thing, rather similar to nebulously having to move from one place to another as The Worst Thing that could happen. kid friendly easy drama, really

They also had the larger friendgroup and managed to successfully pull off each girl (and the token boy!) Having their own distinct personality, even if they're a bit obvious (there's the foodie, the techie, the timid shy one, the shallow fashion one, etc -basically mlp but if applejack was the main character)

Idk how available it is nowadays, but I remember coming across a 3D animated pollypocket “movie” (it was short) on one of the websites. All I remember about it was that they went to the villain’s house (she was a twist villain I think). She tells them that she won tons of awards for world records and stuff, but when Polly and friends start to turn on her, they look at her trophy collection and find that her world records are in stuff like watching the most TV. Basically they say the awards she earned weren’t real because they were all based on lazy activities (lol). Anyone else remember this?
