Universe Zero completely destroyed the story and made me drop the manga. Edens Zero is way worse the Fairy Tail in my opinion, because it is gaslighting you into believing this is a darker story, where decisions and death actually matter and happen, but in actuality it is the exact opposite. Nothing bad happening in 200 chapters mattered at all.

One of the major problems with many people when it comes to criticizing Edens Zero is that they are impatient. They can't wait for certain plot elment to end, and resolve before they call it bad, or make a negative conclusion regarding them. And since they are already dead set on calling it bad, even when we found out it wasn't, they still gonna call it that.

The core issue. The hype is dead with the fights. Mashima erased all the tension the moment he settled on a “no one dies” ending. This is the same flaw Kishimoto did with Kakashi. He was never going to die because he already died. Because of this we already know that the good guys will flawlessly win. Anything else is just padding out the story. With Fairy Tail at the very least people still died. There were lasting consequences. The only reason Jellal is protected is because he’s a popular character. Even Makarov was crippled. However Mashima made the same error with the gmg arc when he undid a lot of deaths. At the very least though there was still a consequence- Ultear. The fact that there is 0 consequences to anything is probably what killed Edens Zero. Yes. Rave had a deus ex machina ending but by then we werent aware it was possible because he went and killed off characters that still stayed dead. When you remove any sense of tension from lack of consequences or anything, it’s going to kill the story and hype. Telling Rebecca she can’t time jump isnt a threat because we already know she’s not going to need it. That’s not even mentioning that we’re not even 300 chapters and 235 of those chapters was scrapped. Meaning your final story takes place in a span of 70 chapters or so. Not even but still. It’s like watching Flashpoint paradox before the dcamu. It’s irrelevant. There is no point if the main story is now in an alternate timeline.

Only shitty villains(all of them) in Fairy Tail died. All of the heroes that weren't walking zombies or ghosts didn't die, and are living long lasting peaceful lives at the end of the series, minus Natsu, but that's the only good thing the series did.

I feel like the most recent fights have been rather unceremonious. Really does feel like the story is making a beeline for the end. Think this video did a good job explaining the trajectory of the story and the fanbase. There was a time when this series was one of my favorite weekly reads. Now I'm just here to see it wrap up. I like EZ but I don't think I can consider it a favorite anymore. Which is a shame but the good news is the series gave me a new found appreciation for Mashima

It's the same with all of Mashima's projects. They start really fun and fresh and hit their peak at about 1/3 through the story. It just drops off and i think it's be we lose the balance between character driven and story driven plots. It goes downhill because we only get more story revealed, not more depth to the characters. I'm enjoying his new series, Deadrock, and I'm hoping it breaks this tradition

I enjoy it over all..my problem with Universe 0 is that the sies are just weak & they have been beaten kinda easily. Especially God Acnoella & Cure. I know they already been beat before but don't bring them back if u are just gonna rush their defeats. I'm probably gonna be pissed with the way lady Freyja was handed. She probably dead but I hope not. Homera is cool but she literally took down 2 sies members alone & that just don't sit well with me. I'm still invested because I believe some stakes will happen & I think Shiki will sacrifice himself to save everybody.

I feel the anime is ok. It’s on par with mid to late Fairy Tail. I think it’s biggest problem is censorship ecchi elements feel extra focused on which fine fair sex sells. But Mashima has always been drawing relatively bloody fights along his series. And he’s really been able to push his darker images when it comes to using sci-fi elements like robots as stand ins for images that could have been seen as extremely dark or even gory if they were flesh and blood people.

@@OK-69420 not really animation wise it clearly was made on a budget because FT didn’t get a huge fanbase till the anime came out. Once it had a sizable fanbase you can see the animation and visuals going up about halfway through the series. Then once they put the anime on hiatus and returned later they even gave it a face lift to better match the manga art style.

Got to Edens Zero and took all the chapters in about 1 week. i must say its pretty hard to digest because you will be constantly in a state of 'that doesn't make sense' but if you tune in and keep reading, every piece to the puzzle come to make sense at one point or another. Really love it and its far better than Fairy Tail (my body is ready)

Here’s what they could had did to make things interesting. When rebecca first used her powers we literally had to deal with ziggy. Now lets put that tension everytime she uses her powers to stop ppl from dying they end up dealing with something worse her powers can’t deal with. This would add tension and make the main characters think everything tho like getting more info on enemies speculating who they would have to deal with worse scenario should they use rebecca’s powers.

It's crazy that the manga ended. With how it was going, it felt like it was going to be a long arc, cause of the how crew thing and whatnot like One Piece. Universe Zero arc was where i lost a lot of emotional investment in the series. Not only did Mashima undo a major timeskip, something rare in his works (when it comes to affecting the MCs), it also undid a lot of the consequences of previous arcs and character deaths that happened OFF SCREEN BEFORE THE SERIES. Like there was zero reason to bring Valkyrie or Weiz's mom back. Valkyrie coming back sorta undermines Homura's arc of becoming the new sword of Eden's but then she got even less stuff to do. But, I waited, I thought "oh this was too good to be true. there's gotta be a twist right?" Well no twist came, it felt like more and more convivences kept popping up, villain redemptions NO ONE asked for and now we're at the end of the series and this Universe is just where we're at. Really sucks because Aoi War was great, and with Witch dying felt like there was real consequence to the story. I won't forget how hyped I was seeing an older Shiki and him be more mature. But then you can imagine how upset I was seeing that all go away. I still read it because I've kept up with the series since it first came out, and actually loved it up until Kaede War, for all the "why do you still read it" people out there.

Well, I read Edens Zero since the first chapter and I never really stop, at least not because of the story. I love Mashima's work and sure, they're not perfect, but I lever got as disapointed as One Piece or Naruto. There is a reason I stop reading those two at some point, it was getting too bad. I don't know what it is about Mashima but his stories touch me on the emotional level like few before. Edens Zero is definitely one of my favorite series, up there with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Pandora Hearts, Black Butler and D.Gray Man. I don't really care about fan service or fight, I'm here for the story and the twists. And Edens Zero delivers it. To me, a good plot twist or foreshadowing doesn't mean you have to understand it at the last second. I was sure, since the relics were introduced, about the true nature of Mother. Same with the time monster, I knew it was connected to Rebecca and I wish it'd be dark. I love how the time travel is used, I love that when characters die, it's permanent until you litterally go back in time or change universe. What happened with Drakhen Joe way back then traumatized me because it was unexpected. They lost and they paid the consequences for it. Sure, the story drags sometimes, villains aren't as good or developped as they might have been, but I accept it because there is so much more to enjoy about this series... Mashima's art is just wonderful, this man knows how to draw. All those people who say "he's lazy because he uses the same design as Fairy Tail" just don't know he's been doing it since Fairy Tail with Rave. And they are hypocrites because, let's be honest, if you can accept Toriyama making Goku 2.0 and 3.0, or Oda incapacity of making women look different, or any other time a mangaka style shows, then Mashima doesn't deserve the hate. I swear, it's like people love to hate on that man for no good reason. No, Edens Zero isn't Fairy Tail in space, and it doesn't need to be. I'm sad the manga is ending soon but I can't wait to see gow it'll end. I'm still hoping for a bitter sweet ending, like everyone get saved bit Shiki and Rebecca have to be sacrificed in the process. I just need some drama in my life, some stories should remember that death is a good thing, if not needed, to make it believable and impactful.

The reason s2 didn't get an English dub is because the show changed from netflix exclusive to crunchyroll and so the dubbing team lost the rights to it. Although they may dub it in the future but who knows when that will be

I gonna sum everything , Edens Zero is a experimentation manga. Why I think it is ? Mashima tackling a new genre and it's a genre that Japanese audience do not like (unless it is Gundam). A genre that takes a lot of time to plan out and a lot of chapters. His planning involves around Shiki and Becca only , the side characters are "plan" on the go as the story keeps going. The side characters backstory and development are mostly done within an arc and after that , nothing for them. That includes the villains ( Drakken and Shura are the only two stands out). The length of the chapters he chose to end off is just to short. This series need to be beyond Fairy Tail chapters numbers. I just feel her wants to try something new but it didn't reach the height of Fairy tail in the long run. I believe the new series Dead Rock is his way of saying , "Let me use what I know." fantasy genre and fans wanna see a dark side to it. He going back to what he knows. I also feels the fans on twitter and reactor play apart to Edens Zero outlook. impatient and melodrama about certain things like side characters and villains on how they be done. Plot point not reaching sooner. Just bad time to read weekly but I feel a re-read would feel better.

I like the video, but I disagree with you on one point. I think the downfall started with Dracken Joe. In his author notes he says that he thought that the arc was too dark and wanted to change it to be more light hearted. After that, you notice a trend where he basically refuses to put his foot down on anything, likely for fear that he’d have to go back and change it later.

Well I stopped watching the video when you headed to the spoilers, and even though I'm not an anime fan, I really liked that show. I watched the 1st season on Netflix and finished it in like 2 days, then moved to the 2nd season. I think the first was better in a way, and they could add some more episodes while expanding the plot (to be more realistic, or let the audience's feeling process better). And the 2nd season, was a little rush, and way too much characters (and stories). And I felt disappointed at the last 2 episodes, like.. it should be deeper than that. I'm waiting for the next season

Yeah, for me, the U0 Saga started out well enough. All the villains & MCs returning was "fine". Doesn't really undo all those deaths from the previous. The Miltz Arc was pretty great. But the current arc was specifically where it went downhill. The Darkstars & OSG being jobbers. And having Void replace Ziggy as the main antag. Overall, I still like the manga & anime a lot but, the ones in charge of both are trying to kill my enjoyment. I'm still excited for S3 and I think Mashima can salvage the manga if he has some huge twist with Void & OSG of Universe 0.

I personally think the fact that it's an ongoing manga was kinda bad for it. Many people got bored or just forgot in the middle of an arc. I personally only read EZ when i remember it like around every 6 months or so, and binge reading EZ is a wonderful experience. Also i feel like a lot of people just don't have fun with the story anymore like sure it's getting dark but sometimes it's okay to slow down.

Spoilers for the Manga!! This is just my personal opinion on what happened with me and EZ. Spoiler Warning! Edens Zero for me died when Ziggy was revealed to be controlled. The reason for this is because my interpretation (which was largely based on facts Mashima laid out in the series already) was that Ziggy was actually evil. And when we got the reveal of him being Shiki but from the future, I feel why it truly mattered was lost because he was controlled. I'm going to explain what my interpretation was about what this reveal was going to do and why it mattered. It calls back to a lot of the already established themes and plot points. Basically the idea was that Ziggy was a Shiki from the future who got all his memories back when he was revived on Granbell. He got reminded by the memories he lost and all the pain and trauma he went through, and thus he fell to the Dark Side of Gravity (established by Xenolith) and seeks to destroy Mother to prevent someone from going through similar trauma he did. Thats why I thought Ziggy being Shiki mattered, and I feel you lose out on this with Ziggy being a pawn and not actually evil. Also the rushed Kaede war arc, and the arc that followed after it are also reasons why the series died for me.

I loved the manga, but the anime really killed my love for the series with how much it mistreated it with the censorship and simplified art. I'd say the anime itself is the biggest reason the series is in the bad position its in now. The manga has been great, so there really isn't an issue there. These days especially people want adaptations to elevate the manga, but in EZ's case it wasn't even on par with it. Can't really expect something like that to help the series gain popularity. What saddens me is knowing how little Mashima could do. With the recent Hinako Ashihara tragedy who had an adaptation produced by the same company as EZ its very much became apparent that the mangaka don't really get a proper say in ensuring their works are treated with respect. The mangaka basically has to stand up against producers to ensure their work is treated with respect. Considering Mashima said he didn't like to force his way in regards to the manga itself in a volume afterward there is no way he'd make demands of producers. So its just an unfortunate situation all around.

After the deal died due to Netflix putting ads on anime on free tiers and creators don't want commercials to influence viewers since in Japan it's on a channel with none while it airs. Crunchyroll only got the 1st season from Netflix and continues too minus the contracts for the voices. Hope they aren't tied to Netflix only 😵😵 sad.

Ehhhhhh the Final Arc and the themes just feel by the numbers The Fights are 1-2 chapter bombastic power displays The Time travel plot twists could be confusing if you think about it Humans vs Robots just feel basic Kinda suffers from Classic Shounen Final War type annoyances JC Staff Adaptation is VERY average The Animation in the Fights don't stand out in any visually distinct way and the Directing is serviceable Villains are so forgettable

Don’t get me wrong. I loved the series up to the U0 arc. I loved the characters. Yeah I made dumb jokes about reusing designs but that is a Mashima staple. Fairy tail reused a TON from Rave and still had its originality. U0 just disappointed me.

Series for me died when they went to Universe 0 and permanently undid every hardship and emotional moment. :/ especially that plot deus ex bull shite with Mother. Why bother having hard choices and consequences when it means piss all.

Well I stopped watching the video when you headed to the spoilers, and even though I'm not an anime fan, I really liked that show. I watched the 1st season on Netflix and finished it in like 2 days, then moved to the 2nd season. I think the first was better in a way, and they could add some more episodes while expanding the plot (to be more realistic, or let the audience's feeling process better). And the 2nd season, was a little rush, and way too much characters (and stories). And I felt disappointed at the last 2 episodes, like.. it should be deeper than that. I'm waiting for the next season
