The actual reason: If they want him to score, that is when he is really good at shooting. If they want him to facilitate, then he shoots poorly. This is the next thing he should work on. Getting 8+ assists per game while shooting 37%+ on threes.

Tatum has that twitch when he’s about to go up and shoot. It’s a bit like 2 motion shot but stops half way from the follow through, I think he needs fix that up and make it smoother. I’ve had that same issue in process of changing my jumpshot so I create that twitch of shooting up but it’s not smooth so I’m working on that issue as well and hopefully Tatum is working on that too bcuz he can be so much better. And the hate for him is too much
@joshualewis4991Ай бұрын
You're 100000% Right. Anyone who watches him sees that he thinks too much. He thinks because they taught him to always pass to the open man when he draws two defenders. He's done the same thing on team USA. When he learns how to play without thinking he'll be fine, I just don't think he will ever learn how. Ppl have to remember that the Celtics changed JT's entire game. He was supposed to be a finesse mid range player but they turned him into a modern-day three point shooting and dunking player. Now anytime he's not shooting open threes, driving to open dunks, or passing to the wide open player after drawing two defenders, he looks out of wack. He has no go-to move, although I'm seeing him learn the fade, because of the training. For example, look at James Harden. James used to have a mid-range step back. Now he just scores a bunch of points yet gets L's in the playoffs because he's basically a 2k player.

We can only hope that with the Celtics winning the chip this year that Tatum can feel less pressure on him to win and play with more confidence. He can’t continue to shoot like this if he wants to continue to compete at a high level and maintain a superstar status.

You took his playoff stretch this year. He also played more minutes, and during this season during the playoffs this season he averaged more rebounding, more assists, more steals, and more blocks, and only one less point on average. He also played 40 minutes a game, where as during the regular season he played 35, and had two less assists a game, one less rebound a game, and lower steal and block numbers.

Honestly I really hope he shoots only 6.5 and below attempts on three for 2 reasons. 1) his efficiency and confidence most definitely will go up if he wasn't forcing outside jumpers like he is now. And 2) I think he also realized this himself that he is way too good and virtually unstoppable at attacking the ring in such a way that no other forward aside from anomalies like Giannis does better than him.
@bpdmf2798Ай бұрын
He shot better as a second option. As a first option he's worked on controlling the offense and his shooting numbers slipped while everything else went up. Seems like working his efficient shooting back up while maintaining his increased rebounds and assists is the key to his game now.

That side step 3 and bad shot selection is what did it. And you can argue that he takes way too much 3’s. If he chooses to get to the rim more and shoot more mid ranges, then he would be a much more efficient scorer. He makes the game harder for himself just to look good. That’s what I see.

Imagine being touted as the man of ur city. Highest paid, no1 option, etc. that’s gonna come with haters, that’s normal. Every athlete deals with it at his level. I think what’s getting to him is being knocked of the pedestal he was placed on this last playoff run. Jaylen brown showed up when he didn’t. Jb won both ecf MVP and finals mvp. Jb was the first option. Jb was the man. And after being the man for so long, seeing someone else take it from u in the span of a couple months DEFINITELY hurts. No doubt about it. The icing on the cake (ik this happened after but still good to note) was him being taken into team USA this summer without jb and then getting sidelined the whole time with guys like Halliburton. No shade to Hali but again, when u been the man for so long in ur city. Sitting on the bench with a new rising star DEFINITELY hurts egos.

I think the biggest reason is that i feel like he’s always been a streaky shooter. So when his usage rate goes down or he’s asked to facilitate more, he’s not able to get into the right rhythm. This will also hurt his confidence over time too. They didn’t even give him a real chance in the Olympics either, like wtf was Kerr thinking? Starting a guy who dnp the game before???? Saying Tatum has the yipes is beyond dumb wow if his mechanics took a dive from the playoffs to the regular season like you pointed out than sure but like you said he was fine in the regular season (not saying his mechanics are pretty) Fultz yipes 100% not a debate, anyone that knows basketball knows that left to right misses make a bad shooter most of Tatum misses are because he’s short or long which you can’t even look into deeply like that If you ask me Tatums game just to indecisive he doesn’t have any go to moves or go to spots where he just eats like a lot of the greats whenever he tries to iso he over dribbles to get a rythm going to create momentum to help him go down hill or get into his shot and a lot of the times when he can’t do that he struggles that’s just who he is 🤷 Tatum should embrace melo’s game body people in the triple threat and work of that I think he’d be great if he operated like that the over dribbling is what’s killing hjm
