I almost think it’s because their only identity is their singing and they’re not really interesting to keep up with. Jojo’s case is weird to me tho cause she did have the same vibe as all the disney stars and had a growing fanbase but I think her career flopped because of issues with her label. Also I’m pretty sure why tori kelly flopped is because she was under the same management as ariana grande so it would’ve been so risky to push another GIRL to be the most successful pop superstar when the competition was tough enough as it with taylor swift, miley cyrus, selena and demi all on the rise at the time. Ariana was just starting out and had a way bigger existing fanbase and a much more unique image, a huge tv show and broadway vocals. Even then I totally remember her label putting justin bieber ahead of ariana to the point where she had to DROP scooter braun in order to make it on her own (and it worked). I feel like jazmine sullivan’s case is rooted in racism cause that girl can outperform anyone in the industry rn and no one can change my mind on that lol. I don’t think it’s racism from the public but probably from the music industry.
@camdenhunt75653 жыл бұрын
Are we putting Jojo and Jazmine Sullivan into what yt ppl consider mainstream? Because both singers are very popular within the black community so I don’t think they’re too pressed about having super stardom. We can throw Ari Lennox in there too. These women are fine and are doing fine.

I’ll always love when she performed on the side at some award show with her boot on , I believe she broke her ankle, but none the less, I couldn’t believe how great of a singer she was. She was singing everyone else’s songs! & better than them!

The truth about everything is that ROSE was a masterpiece and nobody let her broke through. She really step up with the EPs and it saddens me when she wasn't recognized for the most developed work she's done. I mean, with what she ever did she's always associated with her two first album. My advice is : just listen to ROSE cause even though there are fil up tracks, it truly worth it and you'll see a totally new dimension to her career and personal life

I actually liked the album Alive, it has some meaningful and empowering songs such as Hero, Excuse My Rude, while still being well connected to her previous work Who You Are. Yes it’s a bit more corny, but still I think it’s worthwhile to listen to and her vocals are so great.

*Pls make a video about Poppy* 😍🥰🤩 She has went through so much and changed a lot over the years and is doing remarkable. She has switched between genres multiple times and has found success in all of them. She went from an internet enigma to a well established singer/song writer. She escaped an abusive relationship and has triumphed in life and is now engaged to ghostemane and doing great in her career.. on top of that she even got nominated for a Grammy for her song! Hope you'll consider this since you do other smaller artists.

*I wish Vocalists like her were not so underrated. They are often shunned because their music isn't like the annoying pop, or mumble rap we hear today. It's also why I think the 90's was the best era for music. It sounded good, and gave us artists like Whitney, and Mariah, and Celine.*

@Liz Smith No ones denying that they are not icons. Just because they are icons doesn’t mean other people from the newer generation can’t be icons either. Guess what they weren’t always icons, they had to get to a certain place and hit certain numbers to get to that point which newer artist are doing. Anyone can be an Icon to somebody there’s no need to downplay.
