The problem was his ball-dominant low efficiency playstyle. He needed a ton of shots to get those points, didn't make his teammates better, needed the ball in his hands to be effective, and was undersized for a shooting guard while unable to direct offenses as a point guard. Does anyone have a 6'3" shooting guard these days? And interestingly, Curry is the main culprit for kicking Monta out of the league, not for getting him traded from the Warriors, but for making his game obsolete and undesirable. Teams now want tall, long-armed, three-point wings that can defend and work off the ball. Monta has none of those. And Klay is all of those.

if a team ever put Monta in the backcourt with a defensive-minded big guard and other talented players, the Monta Ellis narrative would be closer to how A.I. is viewed. wasnt good at defense... lmao he averaged 1.7 steals a game one point in his career XDD
@MrNash19914 жыл бұрын
PUASami the steal stat is one of the most misleading stats in the nba imo. Defense isn’t just about playing your guy. It’s about how you move off ball as well. Carmelo Anthony if you watched him when he was in New York he was good at defending his man on the perimeter and in the post but he lacked the off ball awareness to know where his guy was 24/7. So yeah I don’t think monta Ellis ever was anything but an average to below average defender.

A 2nd round pick who came straight out of highschool, led a struggling franchise through it's down years giving fans a reason to watch, had some very respectable seasons as a primary scorer, and earned about $90m in salary over his 12 seasons. Ellis is actually still collecting a yearly salary of $2,245,400 from the Indiana Pacers until the 2021-22 season. That's a damn good career, not everybody can be a superstar, and sometimes the game just evolves and you no longer have a place in the league, Ellis as a small 2 guard who relied on a high volume of shots, iso ball, and who was never a good 3 point shooter just got pushed out of a league that was moving towards 3 point shooting and ball movement.

Loved Monta on the bucks and dude played 12 years he was a success. The real reason he became bad news was that he got older and he was a high volume player but wasn't very efficient. You could say analytics killed homeboy but really he just got older. Either way he played 12 more years in the NBA than I ever did so he deserves some respect. For real - look for Westbrook to fall apart in a similar fashion and don't forget that guard is the deepest most talented and most athletic spot on any NBA roster.

People dont realize 5-7 years in the NBA is a GOOOOOOOOOD LONG career, anything above that you were definitely special. 3 years is actually the avg . . .

Monte was one of my favorite players to watch. Always got him on any basketball game I played. Dude was a solid example of a player that successfully made the jump from high school to pro.

The Bottom line is versatility as a point guard and shooting guard is what will keep you in this league longer. The NBA wants more players who are versatile and not one dimensional so that’s a big shift for the NBA over the past 50 years. And nba wants a more type of European basketball a.k.a. small man basketball which will be the future for the NBA going forward.

Monta was one of the best players to watch on Golden State. He'll always have a special place in Dub fans hearts but thank God ownership traded him away to make Steph the guy.

That’s crazy, a lot of teams can use his talents. If I was him I’d go overseas for awhile, they’re paying big money too.

Fun fact about monta. He and Lebron is the same age and both straight out of high school players but were drafted in 03’ and 05’. Boy monta gotta be dumb as hell

Wow! I saw him play against Thaddeus Young in HS. By halftime he had like 45 points and a triple double. Now it makes sense!

Actually LeBron is almost a full year older than Monta Ellis! Lebron was born 12/30/84 and Monte was born 10/26/85. So no, they aren't the same age. However Monte's senior year of basketball was the same year as mine, and I was not born until 2/24/87!! Damn! So yeah Monte was potentially playing against kids nearly 2 years younger than him in high school! How dumb WAS he?!?

It's so weird how time changes perspective, during his playing era Allen Iverson type guards were considered the thing to have now I.E: Eliss, Iverson and Steve Francis , Now we're the Steph Curry Damien Lillard Type Guards.

One of my favorite players ever!! Monta played no defense but he was gangster, the warriors, sixers or Memphis should sign him as a reserve or the cavs or spurs, he should have stayed on Dallas, i think he’ll do great in the cba. Still a talented dude, i can never forget the buzzer beater against Houston or the 45 points he dropped on okc

I played ball against him in high school... He went to Lanier high in jackson, MS and he once dropped 72 points by halftime in high school.... I'm proud of his career. He came from the streets of Jackson and wasn't enrolled in achool, then coach billups saw him at a park shooting from half court like it was free throws. Got him enrolled in school and the rest is history

I've been #DubNation since Day 1 back in the early 90s. Monta could ball out in his early years but the knock on him has always been he's a but of a loose cannon. He's pretty much the antithesis of Steph Curry. He was entertaining to watch though. That's why Dubs fans loved him. I think he still has a place in the NBA if he works on his 3pt shot and stays off smokin them tweeds!
