As a skinny undersized, ball dominant guard coming out of high school, Monta Ellis was never supposed to have a career like he did. I consider that a success

My brother and I were just talking about Monta Ellis the other day. It’s a shame that the guy is out of an NBA job right now. You’re right. If he wants to make a comeback to the NBA, he’ll have to improve his 3 point shot and learn how to play without the ball. Great video man!

Kanard Green Yes good explain and his Speed and Driving gos down fast and he never changed his game, no 3 no finishing more at the rim and no defense and need everytime the Ball to be efficient so no seat in this NBA ! Incredible the way from Ellis and Curry and they asked 2010 who is the future for the Warriors Team! ! 7 Years later Curry MVP 2 time Champion 3 Point King and Ellis out of the Business!

Andy Erm I remember in high school my friends and I debated if the Warriors made a mistake by trading him to the Bucks. Obviously, I thought the Warriors made the right move even then. Didn’t think Steph would turn out the way to be this great though. Amazing what can happen in 7 years. Completely agree with you!
@magomez1
@magomez1 7 жыл бұрын
Kanard Green Yeah its incredible sometimes but the Sports/NBA is never standing still and the game changed every time and fast (The biggest change off course are the Stretch 4,5 and Simmons Antetokounmpo who are 3,4 and play like a 1,2 ballhandling with Forward Size D.Green on 5 and so on) Maybe in a few Years we see Videos here whats happens to LeBron,KD,Curry,Green,Westbrook or some others in this Moment Superstars!

The problem was his ball-dominant low efficiency playstyle. He needed a ton of shots to get those points, didn't make his teammates better, needed the ball in his hands to be effective, and was undersized for a shooting guard while unable to direct offenses as a point guard. Does anyone have a 6'3" shooting guard these days? And interestingly, Curry is the main culprit for kicking Monta out of the league, not for getting him traded from the Warriors, but for making his game obsolete and undesirable. Teams now want tall, long-armed, three-point wings that can defend and work off the ball. Monta has none of those. And Klay is all of those.

I feel like someone will pick him up. I pray so man. I'm from jackson Mississippi! I met him multiple times. (Thanks to my dad) this was when he was in high school and right before he went to the NBA. Definitely the greatest high school athlete to come out of Mississippi ever! That's why he came straight out of high school to the NBA. I remember they played this one team in high school and monta scored 69 against them and then next time he played that same team same season... he scored 72. I was at one of those games and it was crazy! They were down by soo much that everyone just pretty much knew it was over half the gym had left... except the true monta believers! (Including my family) and they made a crazy comeback To win thanks to monta dropping 69 or 72 that game. You can look up this little news story they did on it, on KZbin. And don't make fun of how country we are in Mississippi when ya watch it! 😂

if a team ever put Monta in the backcourt with a defensive-minded big guard and other talented players, the Monta Ellis narrative would be closer to how A.I. is viewed. Monta pretty much always played on teams that werent built to compensate for him being a small guard. in his days with the Warriors he was an absolute joy to watch and the NBA should have done more to show off one of their most thrilling players of that time.

“What happened to monta Ellis” dude got old. It happens to the best players. He’s a short guard who wasn’t really good at defense and relied on athleticism. Once that goes those type of players are screwed.
@puasami5722

wasnt good at defense... lmao he averaged 1.7 steals a game one point in his career XDD
@MrNash1991
@MrNash1991 4 жыл бұрын
PUASami the steal stat is one of the most misleading stats in the nba imo. Defense isn’t just about playing your guy. It’s about how you move off ball as well. Carmelo Anthony if you watched him when he was in New York he was good at defending his man on the perimeter and in the post but he lacked the off ball awareness to know where his guy was 24/7. So yeah I don’t think monta Ellis ever was anything but an average to below average defender.

A 2nd round pick who came straight out of highschool, led a struggling franchise through it's down years giving fans a reason to watch, had some very respectable seasons as a primary scorer, and earned about $90m in salary over his 12 seasons. Ellis is actually still collecting a yearly salary of $2,245,400 from the Indiana Pacers until the 2021-22 season. That's a damn good career, not everybody can be a superstar, and sometimes the game just evolves and you no longer have a place in the league, Ellis as a small 2 guard who relied on a high volume of shots, iso ball, and who was never a good 3 point shooter just got pushed out of a league that was moving towards 3 point shooting and ball movement.

Loved Monta on the bucks and dude played 12 years he was a success. The real reason he became bad news was that he got older and he was a high volume player but wasn't very efficient. You could say analytics killed homeboy but really he just got older. Either way he played 12 more years in the NBA than I ever did so he deserves some respect. For real - look for Westbrook to fall apart in a similar fashion and don't forget that guard is the deepest most talented and most athletic spot on any NBA roster.

The Bottom line is versatility as a point guard and shooting guard is what will keep you in this league longer. The NBA wants more players who are versatile and not one dimensional so that’s a big shift for the NBA over the past 50 years. And nba wants a more type of European basketball a.k.a. small man basketball which will be the future for the NBA going forward.

Actually LeBron is almost a full year older than Monta Ellis! Lebron was born 12/30/84 and Monte was born 10/26/85. So no, they aren't the same age. However Monte's senior year of basketball was the same year as mine, and I was not born until 2/24/87!! Damn! So yeah Monte was potentially playing against kids nearly 2 years younger than him in high school! How dumb WAS he?!?

I've been #DubNation since Day 1 back in the early 90s. Monta could ball out in his early years but the knock on him has always been he's a but of a loose cannon. He's pretty much the antithesis of Steph Curry. He was entertaining to watch though. That's why Dubs fans loved him. I think he still has a place in the NBA if he works on his 3pt shot and stays off smokin them tweeds!
