No. 1 Steve Perry, stands on his own talents. We all should be happy to have treasured songs he's sang, wrote and made hits. Out of that, he gets paid a percentage EACH time any of his songs are used in a movie/commercial or what. I'm sure the first Journey members get their cut as well. Steve Perry went solo, from that we have more treasured songs that he gave birth to. We need admiration to such artist with talent they bring to classic songs that never die. Steve Perry , put his expertise in his blood, sweat and tears to his songs. He doesn't have time doing "COVER" songs because he builds songs creatively out of his talent. Steve Perry doesn't need to work nor make music if he chooses to do or not - he's a master, like Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand and many others - they are up in age, money is still rolling in from their hits/albums - they don't need to prove to anyone anything. We should be honored we are alive to still hear what they themselves have contributed from their talents.

I saw this post and came right to the comment section. Now I’m afraid to watch it. Steve is my most favorite singer/performer of all time. I was in my 20’s in the 80’s and along with the rest of the world, became a life long fan. His voice is untouchable as far as I’m concerned. Now, reading these comments, I’m afraid this video has so much wrong with what really happened way back when. Facts should be verified before lies and innuendos are spread. The man has paid his dues. He’s entered into a status that cannot be touched.

I’m so glad these interviews are out because the band or certain members can make it seem different. He is a very emotional guy & to him there was more to life than being in a Band!! It’s as if he was wrong for caring for his family more than the music! I’m married to a musician who worked about 3/4 of his life making music & he missed out on a lot of life with me his wife & his children although he never found a band to go big time he was certainly capable but worked with a lot of flakes as most musicians can’t get past the garage. Now at his age he has his music & lots of lost $. But like I said mainly the loss of other loves he had. I’m impressed with the fact he needed to do what was best for him before he to old.

There are at least 3 main issues with this video. 1) While Steve was in Journey, Neal had created 2 solo albums. After Neal’s first solo album, Steve told Herbie that he wanted to create a solo album too. He also said that if Neal did another solo album, Steve would certainly do his solo album. Neal did create another solo album so during a break with writing music for and touring Journey, Steve created his first solo album called Street Talk. He has stated several times that during the creation of that first solo album, he was still 100% committed to Journey. Like Neal, he just wanted a different creative outlet. Steve did not tour for this solo album. 2) Steve enjoys hiking. He was in Hawaii on a hike getting in shape for Journey’s upcoming grueling tour for the Raised on Radio album. Steve was diagnosed with a degenerative joint disease. He tried alternative treatments for a awhile instead of rushing into having his hip replaced. Neal and Jon didn’t want to wait on Steve so they told Steve that they were looking for another lead singer … meaning that Neal and Jon were looking to replace Steve. 3) This video did not state that Steve also created his For the Love of Strange Medicine album and he did tour following that album release.
