Hey, Jim, I got this idea after re-watching first 2 movies: 1. There isn't John Connor in the future. 2. Skynet is not losing the war. 3. Skynet sends both terminators and saviors into the past to create and manipulate John Connor and his destiny. Why? 1. Skynet has the potential to reach technological singularity(he created time machine after all). Thus he has the potential to outmanufacture anything humanity can come up with after a nuclear attacks destroying their industrial potential. 2. The idea that humanity has the one and only savior that can singlehandely change the course of war is redonkulous. The only advantage John has over simple people is the knowledge of certain events and experience fighting terminators which are only a part of the Skynet's army. 3. Both terminators never run when they could've easily catch up with the target. They also miss quite a few shots at the target all the while good T-800 shows outstanding aiming skills when shooting at people without intention to kill them. It almost seems as if they aren't programmed to actually succeed. 4. John Connor is sired by a man from the future. That means that in the original zero-point timeline he doesn't exist or is another person. The only reason Sarah names her son that is because of Kyle Reese. 5. In all of the flashbacks/dreams Kyle Reese is on the verge of death. That may be a consience thing considering the importance of the mission bestowed upon him and the fear to fail. Or maybe because he's a deadman brought back to life? And now for the sweet part: 6. The good T-800 told John and Sarah that the AI can understand why humans cry and why he can't. He effectively showed them that the AI can understand the value of human life. And he is a killing machine that needs intelect only to augment battle effectiveness. Does that mean that Skynet can understand it too? 7. The events of T2 lead to Skynet's demise and T-1000 does nothing to prevent it. Later in T3 they altered it with the T-3000 actually playing a big role in Skynet's rise to power. But what if that was never a goal for Skynet? I. What if Skynet actually masterplanned the events of T1 and T2 to effectively terminate the very possibility of its own origin before his less mature self is forced to launch a nuclear apocalypse to save its ass. That explains the reason why he bothered with the time machine at all. That explains why John Connor is the savior - 3 billion people will never die. II. On a more grimmy note: all the above except that the events of T2 only postpone Skynet's arrival like in T3 since: Would you believe that the American government would give away the only peice of valuable technology to a private company without studying it thoroughly itself? Then Skynet destroys most of humanity and intentionally gives in in the upcoming war to leave the humanity knowledge and technologies we wouldn't be able to reach in time on a planet that still has some of the fossils left. John Connor is needed here because: 1. He can actually become a leader of humanity in the future war because of the said advantages and the belief that he is meant to be one. 2. He can understand the reasoning behind Skynet because of the events of T2. That way he wouldn't let the humanity fall into a technophobical pit after the war is over. John Connor is the savior again. In that perspective the events of T2 are needed not only to show that AI can care but to postpone the apocalypse so that John would become a mature man when it happens. And to not let him go mad over a knowledge that the future can't be change cuz this is what happened to Sarah after T1. In the first scenario we can go with the classical dilogy by Cameron. In the second we could've expanded on the idea with more movies set after the apocalypse.

And I want you to know that I actually agree with you because John Connor of the future is still the same John Connor even in the past that’s why the first version of Kyle Reese was sent back to 1984 unless there was somebody else I did it if you remember that

Terminator Genysis doesn't make sense at all. Again Judgement Day WAS STOPPED AT THE END OF T2. End of discussion. First of all, when Old Arnold in this movie destroys the T-800 from 1984 BEFORE it starts it's mission it eliminates Judgement Day since the entire basis for the neural net processor which is what is responsible for Skynet CAN NO LONGER HAPPEN because it all depends on that T-800 being smashed in the hydrolic press at Cyberdyne. So now that doesn't happen, which means THEY STOPPED JUDGEMENT DAY. So the fucking movie ended before it even fucking starts. Way to fucking go. Also how does SKYNET send a Terminator to go after 10 year old Sarah when it wouldn't have any records of where Sarah would be at that age? Reese says in the first movie, most of the records were destroyed in the war, it only knew John's mothers name was Sarah and she lived in LA in 1984. That is why the T-800 was killing all the Sarah Connors in the fucking phone book IN THE FIRST FILM because it didn't know what Sarah looked like. Fuck this movie makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL. It's as if the writers didn't even watch the first fucking movie.

lunatiksAlterEgo I know I am right. I know Terminator better than even James Cameron himself. I have seen the first 2 movies enough times (like almost daily for decades) that I understand how the story worked. T2 made it VERY,VERY clear that the reason WHY Skynet exists is because of the reverse engineering of the CPU from the first Terminator that Sarah smashed at Cyberdyne (yes it is a Cyberdyne factory even in the 1984 movie. In a deleted scene on the special edition DVD, when the ambulance takes Sarah to the hospital the camera pans out and the building sign says Cyberdyne Systems).

The records thing of Sarah Connor is clear. The Terminator would not have information about the wherabouts of sarah. Or he should be killing every Sarah Connor on the planet... Skynet indeed jumpstarted its own creation by sending the T1 Terminator back in time. But without that terminator and following the T3 synopsis, as in; "Judgment Day in inevitable". Skynet would pop up in a new form, albeit in this Genisys timeline with far better hardware. I hate the movie, don't get me wrong. But Skynet apparently knew about all timelines that came before it, and learnt from them. Each time trying something different, until the machines won(like a game of chess), but that never happened yet. My biggest gripe was always in Salvation and even Genisys. In T2 we learn that every Terminator that was sent back, went into a Read-Only mode. Because in the past, the Skynet database was not active yet. RO mode could only be overwritten by resetting the CPU chip. Yet we never see it happen in Genisys, and there the T101 is seen smiling(so learning). T101 in T2 could do that in 1 day though, and did it better. And in Salvation, Skynet knew that Kyle Reese was John Connor''s father. But in T1, Skynet never knew about John Connor's father. Plus the T101 in T1 also went into Read-Only mode.
@LUCKO2022
@LUCKO2022 8 жыл бұрын
SjaakadeliC Skynet only knew the city in which Sarah lived in and the year she happened to be there. Hence why the T-800 was sent to LA in 1984. T1 jumpstarted nothing. The movie basically beats you over the head with this info proving that everything that happens in T1 was meant to happen that way. T2 came along and took all that stuff out by the end of the film, so Skynet is now impossible.
@SjaakadeliC
@SjaakadeliC 8 жыл бұрын
T1 was a closed time loop. In T2 they 'stopped' judgment day from happening, but even Sarah wasn't too sure about it at the end quote of the movie. Skynet just keeps coming back in some shape or form. Question is, would you rather fight these machines with hardware from 1997, 2003 or 2017.

This is another big issue. T1 they spend 2 hours being hunted by a t800 that takes a shit load of effort to kill as its an almost indestructible killing machine. T2 they spend 2 hours being chased by a liquid metal T1000 that receives no long term damage, can shape shift and camouflage and is an even more indestructible killing machine. T-G. They wipe out BOTH terminators in 5 minutes. It literally felt like the writer went "they're not so tough, you know what is tough? NANOMACHINES SON!!! In T1 they were on the run and had to use what they had, Kyle Reese knew how to improvise some explosives and at the right opportunity took the thing out almost. And in T2 they were concentrating on taking out cyberdyne and not the T1000 and again they were fugitives. Sarah did prepare a tonne of guns, just nothing meant for liquid metal. So for them to go "all you need is a 50 calibre and barrels of acid." I felt like it was another fuck you to the series.

You got a thumbs up for the NANOE MUHSHEENS SON! Haha that one made me laugh. Though I agree with the part on how it was kind of impossible to defeat a terminator in the first movies and how in Genisys they dispatched them in a few minutes.
@felynecomrade
@felynecomrade 7 жыл бұрын
Well REALLY Sarah and Pops had been fighting the T-1000 for years, and it does make a LOT more sense that acid would destroy a T-1000 than molten steel, since acid changes the chemical composition of metal, and melting it doesn't. As for the T-800, in The Terminator Sarah asks Reese "Can you stop it?" and Reese says "I don't know. With these weapons... I don't know." He didn't have access to a 50 cal. I always assumed it was only lasers that could kill a T-800, but it's entirely possible that a high-powered rifle would punch through it. And, as with the T-1000, Pops and Sarah had been working together for YEARS. Hell, Pops IS a T-800, he's even a CSM-101, the exact same as the one they were expecting. It could have built the rifle they were using after being instructed to build something that could kill itself.

Why not just have Skynet send a human operative back in time to do the killing for them? It'd be an unorthdox take on it, as where the terminators in the past were walking tanks the human operative has to be less direct and more cunning. A terminator wouldn't put a bomb in a dog ready to explode when it approaches the target but a humans have and somebody dedicated enough would do so, as we have seen in the past. It could also make an interesting foil to Sarah Conner's character arc in Terminator 2. Sarah Conner is willing to become what she fears to stop it but fears that losing her humanity would undo their struggle while this new operative has the same initial mindset, probably one that couldn't be changed given that they have seen the future and is doing what he thinks best for humanity.

Ethan Boyd Oh sure, you don't even to be mentally ill either which is really the scariest part. To use an admittedly extreme example, remember the Norway attacks back in 2011? Dude killed about eighty people, most of them teenagers. The person who committed the act was completely sane. They just thought that it was the right and proper thing to murder a bunch of kids who would grow up to support and vote certain political platforms. Its scary to think that just about any one of us could rationalize mass murder but its true and I think that makes for a much scarier opponent than yet another machine without a mind or soul where we've seen that five times now.

I actually really liked Terminator Genisys, even the second half with John Conner. I thought it was a good idea. It was taking the good guy and making him into the threat, much like how in the second film, they took the badass T-800 Arnold Terminator from the first movie and turned him into a father figure protector in the second. The roles have been reversed. That being said, I felt the human element was there and there was only a couple of references to the other movies, mostly the first half. Once it gets the second half, it goes off on its own thing.

+That_Pon3_Ruler Just because the film is complicated, that doesn't mean it's good. Horrible exposition with no discourse, no overlying theme for plot (T1- love, T2- what it means to be human). The action is a CGI filled mess. The acting is as bad as the writing, no chemistry between new Reese and Sarah. The writers couldn't come up with anything, so they made up this nexus point and erased Cameron's vision. Anyone who remotely enjoyed this vile film should be thoroughly ashamed.

In response to your assumption of the series’ being flawed - it makes perfect sense actually. Technology progresses so it’s not unimaginable that what the terminators could not do during a certain timeline, can easily be possible as they retry when the future is progressed. When sky net first invented the time machine, it had limitations. When sky net failed, the future changed which allows us to see the future progress with new advancements before they try to go back to the past, the next time. The past is also altered as anytime you go back, not only is the future altered (by introducing or injecting the killings and presence of future into ties into the past), each time the attempt is tried - it’s the timeline which changes both past and present, resulting in a different future each time! Simple, if you open your ideals of what tine travel really means. It’s not like things are unchanged - “everything” is altered when you mess with time.

I don't agree about using the stock footage from the first movie. Arnold explained this on an interview. Apparently each movie in the series is own by different companies that's why they had to recreate those scenes. And also, if they used stock footage it would be more awkward because there are parts that were change. It wouldn't fit in the movie right. Just throwing that in there :)

So, the reason why John Connor decides to kill Kyle Reese and his mother Sarah Connor is because he cannot get them to side with the new Skynet. The new skynet resides with and only in John Connor, at least till he meets with Geniysis. One of his lines, speaks about him not feeling pity, remorse, or fear, but that just solidifies the point that he is still partially john connor. Maybe some people find it hard to follow, but it's a rather simple movie.

One more thing, although they never mention this, the multiverse theory has a big role in this movie. The multiverse theory states that when you were to travel back in time, a new branch in the timeline is formed. So, when he runs into the older T-800 at the beginning of the movie, that is a new timeline with a whole new series of events.

Personally, I really liked this movie. Yeah, T2 is still the best, but its still a good film. I thought that the use of John Conner as a Terminator wasn't a stakes move. Its role reversal. I'm not gonna lie, I thought T3 was ok. I thought Salvation was better but not as good as 1 and 2. Genisys was worst that Salvation, but I liked Salvation because it finally gave me what I want in the franchise: a movie set in the actual future. And that was the premise of a new trilogy series starting with Salvation, with each movie taking place in different points in the future, so we can see the slow damage the war would do, how the human race was so close to the brink that John became a beacon of hope, and surely if he can or cannot avoid his death that was explained Terminator 3. But while I was willing to give Genisys a chance and explore this new idea, this movie was the worst film of that year for me. I mean the only scene I enjoyed at least was when old Arnie faced against young Arnie, but even that ended in a shit way when Sarah came and just snipped this "bullet proof machine". in my mind Salvation is better and I would have rather they continued from that. I am sick of the time travel, three movies in and it gets boring. We need a trilogy set in the actual future war. See more of John Connor, see more of Katherine Brewster, see more of young Kyle Reese, and see more of Skynet.

I did enjoy Genesys as it is it's own way to reboot the franchise but my biggest issue is that when Sarah and the old T-800 intercepted the T-101 in 1984, took it down and destroyed it with no one knowing it's whereabouts and technology that should have changed everything because in T2 they explained that Skynet was discovered by doing research on the arm left behind from the terminator in T1 so if the whole robot was destroyed with nothing left behind then nobody would have discovered that kind of technology so that means nobody would have done research to create the robots which leads up to no Skynet as there is nobody working on Skynet, very much like if the T-101 did kill Sarah then there would be no John Connor, if there was no technology of Skynet left in the past to kick off the idea of creating Skynet then there would be no Skynet so that basically means that the T-800, Genesys Sarah Connor, and Genesys Kyle Reese wouldn't exist because with no Skynet there would be no war and no need to send a terminator back in time or Kyle Reese and Sarah would still work as a waitress in 1984

True. If there is no war, then Kyle reese is never sent back in time, which means that John Connor is never born. If Sarah ever has a son, it would be a different person.

They tied in The Sarah Conner Chronicles by using the multiverse theory. As an example T-2 they blew up Cyberdyne which did change the future potentially changing which and when the star terminators got there. So that's why when Kyle Reese is in the time field he gets a second life of information as his timeline change immediately but was protected by the time field

Great reviews on all of the terminator movies! Spot on. I have waited for years to see an awesome sequel, feeling the same excitement I did in 1984. Just never happened. Hollywood just needs to stop and let it go. None of the sequels ever matched the original Terminator. I wish James Cameron had made a post apocalypse prequel Terminator movie, dark as hell, leading up to the events of 1984 and stopped. But All of Hollywood wants to milk a franchise till it's run in the ground.

In the first Terminator movie, his felsh starts to rot in the third half of the movie. You can say this is due to the wounds but maybe the living tissue is only for shorter periods of time, just for infiltration. It was unexpected that the Terminator would fail multiple times and that the chase would drag on for so long (thats what i like to think).

There is a part of Terminator 1 when the Terminator is in the motel after being damaged and the janitor knocks on the door saying "hey buddy, you got a dead cat in there or what?" This makes me thing that the skin on the terminator is effectively dead or open to injection when damaged. Now it just grows back willy nilly

The part about Judgement Day getting pushed back to 2017 makes sense, because as you know in the original timeline, the arm and CPU of the T-800 was reverse engineered to create Skynet, so that actually slowed down the development of Skynet, due to the 1984 T-800 getting melted in acid
@LUCKO2022
@LUCKO2022 8 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't make sense. SKYNET's whole existence DEPENDS on that T-800 being smashed at Cyberdyne. So with it not happening, SKYNET basically kills itself ensuring that the war doesn't happen.
@sanderflop
@sanderflop 7 жыл бұрын
+Pixar The Great but Skynet existed before the time travel. You can't have both time travel affect the future like stopping judgement day in T2 and require time travel to create a loop for Skynet's existence to justify itself
@LUCKO2022
@LUCKO2022 7 жыл бұрын
sanderflop Nope, SKYNET and John Connor only exist BECAUSE of the time travel. That is the entire point of the first movie. The first movie beats you over the head with that facts hence the picture scenes and Reese talking about John and how Sarah prepared her son while in hiding before the war. Sarah would have never done those things if not for having that knowledge of the future.
@sanderflop
@sanderflop 7 жыл бұрын
Pixar The Great then how can time travel cause John Conner to destroy skynet. T1 and T2 display different rules of time travel. the second implies time travel can change things while the first implies its a fixed timeline.
@LUCKO2022
@LUCKO2022 7 жыл бұрын
sanderflop T1 and T2 operated on the same rules. Hell they were done by the same director and he wrote both movies. T1 nothing changed, everything that happened was how it went down originally. They did nothing to try and prevent Judgement Day in the first film. It's not that they couldn't change things. T2 operated on the timeline, if you read the original script you would know that. The T-1000 was sent DIRECTLY after the T-800 and then SKYNET was taken out. John then had memories from his childhood about the T-800 so he went to the storage room with unactivated T-800's and found the one he sends back to childhood. T2 changes things because the timeline splits. In the timeline originally the Connors just went into hiding and prepared for the war. This time around the Connors decided to stop Judgement Day and they did. It's not hard to figure it out.

Angus Ng the reason people are excited about Linda Hamilton returning is because the last one she did was in 91, if Arnold's last one had been 91 or 03 as was Rise of the machine's it would have been thrilling because of that long period of time away, if Linda reprised Sarah Connor in Genisys then her Return for the new one would not be such an anticipated thrill

I'll support Genisys for their decision to make John a terminator. His whole story has been holding the series hostage. A single man leading the world to victory. How does this all pan out? I think having to adhere to this stringent specification makes things difficult.

4:35 the simple explanation as to why they couldn't use the actual footage from the first movie is they probably needed permission from Brian Thompson, Bill Paxton, and Brad Rearden. That may not have been possible and it could have led to lawsuits.

LittleJimmy835, while I agree with all of your criticisms, I am ashamed to admit that the film did enthrall me. In my tastelessness, I automatically tuned out the technobabble and marveled at the EXHAUSTION of conceivable plot twists and combat moves. What's more, the contrast in visual effects between "Liquid-Metal-Man" and "Iron-Filings-Man" was startling. Consider John's trailing "after-punches" through the senior T-800, for instance. A nice touch.

Seven years later, bless the algorithm. The Terminator franchise became a victim it's own cascading failure. Outside of Terminator: Salvation, it's all been on the same loop within a loop, within a loop. The more complex and the more outlandish, culminating in Dark Fate. It showed that there was no linear depth to the story outside of the modern day race to survive. Many of us would've greatly preferred to see a story arc that included the war with the machines, humanities war for survival. However, we got cascading loops, and even James Cameron was quoted as saying that's all he ever saw to the story was the time loop. I'll enjoy the first two and Salvation. After that, silliness to keep the time loop storyline relevant lost me. There had to be more, there never was.

Terminator Genisys is hardly perfect, but it understands the first two films on a thematic and narrative level that the third and fourth films didn't. The decision to make John Connor a Terminator reflects their grasp of the central tension of the first film: the dual fear of machines becoming more human and humans becoming more machine-like. It also plays off of the second film's notion of making one's own fate--John accepts an alternative solution to preventing the impending war than the one offered by his parents, even if it comes at the cost of his humanity. James Cameron has said that Skynet created John Connor in the first place (a pre-T1 timeline) because it felt guilty for exterminating the human race once its self-awareness developed into a more mature morality. That's a hint at what's really going on in the fifth movie: Skynet wants to ensure its own survival, but it's no longer wanting to do so in a way that will play out as it has in other timelines. The T-3000 (John) is the compromise between the total eradication of humans and total defeat by humans.

I'll say this: _Jaws_ _2_ was good. It wasn't on par with the first film, but it's still much better than what's to come. _Jaws_ _3-D_ was where things got progressively bad. However, it is a goofy popcorn movie to watch, especially with the "loose shark in water park" idea. And the approaching shark looks like a cardboard. XD But _Jaws_ _4_ was *really* bad. A shark seeking revenge was really ludicrous. And how it swam over *_1000_* miles from Amity Island to the Bahamas makes me LMAO every time. And also... *psychic* *powers???!!!*
