I feel like Huberman’s issue isn’t his personal brand as much as it is the way he platforms whoever his guest is and generally just… agrees with everything they say. Like, it’s great he has guests instead of speaking on subjects he himself has no expertise in, but some of his guests are iffy and he approaches them with curiosity and openness instead of skepticism… which would be great if this wasn’t a *science* podcast. He’s leaning into being a podcaster instead of a science communicator (like Michelle) and that’s a disappointment, because those are two very different things but people believe he’s the latter because that’s where he started.

@adorabell42536 күн бұрын
@@bosmer3836the problem in terms of supplement use and whatnot is that they aren’t regulated and are, in many countries, technically food. As a chemist to i like to say the next thing: A Dermatologist can know about skincare, but not because they are formed with that knowledge, but rather because dermatology shares certain knowledge with cosmetic science (Skin anatomy, skin conditions, etc...) but lacks certain knowledge partially (toxicology applied in cosmetic science) or completely (formulation of products) so they will have the same knowledge as an average profesional in any area in certain cases, such as sunscreen formulation, they could look for information but since they had no formation in formulation, if they don't consult with an expert in the area or learn formally about that (for example by doing scientific research in a laboratory). this is a real problem because a lot of dermatologist try to advice about skincare which is fine when it comes to anecdotes for advicing certain products for conditions for example (which is why i love dr dray, she really knows how to advice and even if she has knowledge about skincare in general, she probably knows that for example a toxicologist would explain better the risk of ingredients), but when it comes with scientific education, unless they invite an expert in that area, they could potencially misinform a good analogy for this is the next one: A Human surgeon could potencially know about animal surgery but won't have a better view than a veterinarian, a veterinarian will almost all the time will have a better perspective in animal surgery, that doesn't mean that a human surgeon won't know anything, but if they read an article they won't have the same perspective and they could say something wrong.

Being a Greek and being exposed to our beautiful blue sky and luminous sunlight I must say that it doesn't take a lot to agree with you. Sun is a friend and a foe at the same time. Leave the B.S.guys and use a good sunscreen, a good shadow and clothing whenever possible. Great video ❤

Btw, love it when you recommend other skin care youtubers, especially with a different area of expertise. There are so many especially dermatologists, but also life style influencers (although my expectations are lower with them), who talk a lot of bullshit and it's hard to find trustworthy influencers who stay in their lane (meaning not talking about stuff they don't know much about). Would love for you to make a Video/Blog post with people you can recommend

i've made many similar comments on your videos before, but i'm so grateful to my friend for introducing me to it! i've been chronically ill my entire life basically, and i fell hard and fast for all the snake oil touted by the clean green machine. all the money i've wasted honestly makes my stomach hurt. but finding you, moskinlabs, james welsh, etc has been so helpful to me unlearning the misinformation that was shoved down my throat for so long! not just with skincare, but it's opened my eyes to every other area of my life that was affected.

As someone with a chemistry background this man is driving me crazy!!! From mineral sunscreens “shielding” from UV rays to generalizing all phenolic compounds as endocrine disruptors… Lord help me.

It's fascinating that just one or two incorrect or misunderstood details lead to a whole cascade of misinformation . What you are doing is so incredibly important. I'm an experienced dentist and am stunned at how often my peers (and myself I'm sure) have built faulty conclusions on a minor incorrect detail. So much respect for you ❤

Thank you for this! I remember looking into huberman's podcast and noticed the high amount of cancer phobia and the same advice as a decade ago from the Americans, while the rest of the world including myself seems to have moved past purely mineral sunscreens, as a researcher in training for medical imaging stuff over the years these podcasts give me a bad feeling oven the years especially if they're pushing a supplemental product thats really not cheap😅 Thanks for your work here on youtube over the years 😊

Dear Andrew Huberman, I have been using chemical sunscreen for 15 years now and never ever ever ever have I tasted it in my mouth. This could be a problem specific to you.

I only begin to use the right amont of sunscreen after I've found a sunscreen that didn't leave a white cast on my face. I can imagine that only having mineral sunscreen as a option can make people use less or even give up on sunscreen altogether, especially for people with darker skin shades.

Welcome to Western Australia, where you will get a sunburn at 9am in the middle of winter. There's a reason why so many foreigners get a massive shock when they experience our sun. Which is wild for me to think they don't get burnt all around the world

Hey. As a doctor, I totally understand how frustrating it must feel when people take dermatologists as the final authority or the best experts in the world of chemicals present in skincare products. What you said is exactly how I feel. Dermatologists, though they sre experts on topics related to skin, they don't learn more than a chemist about chemicals. The general public thinks dermatology is all about cosmetics because of online derm influencers mostly producing content geared towards skincare/cosmetics. When in reality dermatology has many other focuses(a vast majority of skin pathologies). Anyway, a great video as always. Love how deeply analytical you are. Helps to clear out so many major doubts.

The amount of work you put into your videos is insane. By far the best quality content I've ever seen on youtube! You are very brave taking on some of these big egos that so carelessly confuse people about health and science. I'm sure you have to take a fair bit of backlash for daring to correct them. Please don't stop ❤

Commenting to try and communicate to KZbin that long form deep dives are still enjoyable. I love that you have done multiple sunscreen “Top X of [YYYY]” because the industry keeps evolving. But this debunk is fabulous for tackling topics that you’ve covered before in multiple videos. I keep lapsing on my sunscreen care because as soon as I get sweaty my eyes start stinging (I avoid mascara for the same reason). And now it may be too late but I realize I need to get back on my game.

My sister-in-law was an avid tanner. She played tennis a lot and had the most beautiful legs. As my sister-in-law grew older, she developed skin cancer. She lived for about 15 years until it took her life. Her daughter also got skin cancer; she is still fighting it and was told to stay out of the sun, or it was going to kill her. I love the new sunscreens, and I avoid sun during the most intense hours of the day.

Re: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide making skin dry. I had to figure this out on my own cuz NO ONE ever mentioned it!!! I wore mineral sunscreen forever due to chemical ones burning my skin when applied. I also had oily skin so mineral worked better. Now, aging and still living in SoCal, I have dehydrated facial skin. Nothing seemed to work well under makeup - and the texture and separation made it look awful. My skin was so dry and tight at the end of the day. When I switched to moisturizing chemical sunscreen I have better outcomes when wearing makeup.... my skin does not feel dry and the newer formulas are very elegant, do not burn, dry down fast, and work very well under makeup!
