I finally located a Japanese pumpkin. I did boil a few chunks of it and then sprinkle it with brown sugar. The meat of the pumpkin taste a little bit grainy is this normal? Otherwise, I really like the flavor I’m looking forward to experimenting with different dishes.

I'm glad you found Japanese pumpkins and that you will be experimenting with them. Hmm not sure about grainy, it's usually quite soft but sweat. Thanks for watching!

I see Japanese people eat a lot of fish. Halifax is famous for its fisheries. Is fish very expensive there?
@whatsfordinner_japanese3 ай бұрын
Yes I love fish but I find that fish can be expensive here, at least compared to prices in Japan 😭. I do find some deals sometimes mostly on salmon, haddock.

Don’t they have Japanese stores in Nova Scotia?
@whatsfordinner_japanese3 ай бұрын
We have Asian grocery stores, but I do most grocery from local supermarkets 😊

I like your recipes. I am also staying in NS. Where do you buy the ingredients from ? I searched in superstore but nothing available
@whatsfordinner_japanese3 ай бұрын
I buy almost everything in no frills so I'm surprised they don't have much selection in superstore 🤔. Sometimes sobeys has a better selection of some things but are usually a little more expensive.
@priyankamitra70593 ай бұрын
@whatsfordinner_japanese I am in Halifax and don't find japanese items in super store. Haven't been to no frills but need to check sobeys. Thanks for the information.

I love turning on one of your videos and cooking dinner alongside you, it's become a ritual on nights when I have no clue what to make for dinner! I let Yasuko guide me 😆🤣 Also, I'd love to cook more with cabbage and am curious how else Japanese cooking uses it? I'm Polish and it's a common ingredient but usually boiled or pickled. Take care!
@whatsfordinner_japanese3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment 😊. I'm glad I help guide you through making dinner (together 😃). Japanese use cabbage a lot. Usually with stir fry, okonomiyaki (japanese cabbage pancake) and I also like to put cabbage in miso soup. You can even have it raw cut up in chunks with salt and sesame oil, which is an easy side dish common in Japanese Izakaya. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your comment! I talk to my fridge to see what ingredients I have 😆 and I try to have a variety of colours. I also google search the ingredients I have to get inspiration. Sometimes it can be hard to think of things though. For my budget I always look for discount items, I buy bulk as it's cheaper in the long run and I use more vegetables than meat. I hope that helps 🥰
