I don’t know about that not washing cast-iron with soap thing but we have had cast-iron pans for years and we wash them with soap we just season them again. We have never had any issue my 94-year-old grandmother left me her cast-iron and it still looks brand new.
@haveaniceday62922 жыл бұрын
Season? What does that mean? Please teach me.
@ashleighkinsey2 жыл бұрын
@@haveaniceday6292 You basically dry it really well rub it down with some oil and put it in the oven to heat up. It makes cast-iron nonstick. And you can do it over and over again!
@tiffanymoore10263 жыл бұрын
I love cast iron, I converted just over 2 years ago and I've never looked back haha. You can definitely wash them! You just reseason afterwards, which I think is fun to experiment with different oils while reseasoning. A solid seasoning will allow you to simply rinse everything off right after cooking (nothing is as non-stick in my experience as a well seasoned cast iron) and then you heat the pan on the stove until it's dry and it looks brand new. Any remaining bacteria will die with the heating process used to dry the pan after rinsing. I love the versatility of the pans, I can use them to cook and to bake. The only shift for me was how HOT they get and they require a little more caution while using of course. Also they are heavier than any other cookware so use good ergonomics, while transporting the pans (and I know you love some good ergonomics). Lastly if you decide cast iron isn't for you, the great thing about them is they always retain their value (if not increase in value!). As always, love your channel and hearing all your ideas for future videos.

You can wash your cast iron! just not with soap haha. Just warm water and a good scrubbing brush. And dont forget to season it after every wash!! It might take a couple uses/seasons to get the full non stick experience with the cast iron so dont give up! I used to be a non believer as well because the "not washing" it grossed me out too. But trust!

I’ll be that annoying cast iron commenter, know it all… 😂 I use to not like cooking with my cast iron, but now I use it all the time. I wash my cast iron if I need to, I don’t really use soap though, but I don’t think it’s horrible to do so (but very lightly soap if you must). For this instance in your video maybe it’s not necessary to wash, just warm it and wipe it down.. Just never soak! After washing, re-season it. Don’t scrub! If you must scrub I use a small amount of salt and then rinse, not soap, then re-season. This seems to still be recommended, but again I only do this if I must, which is rare. To re-season veg oil or even avocado oil are both fine (I’ve read flax is good too but that seems expensive). Do stay clear of olive oil (I think coconut oil is not recommended either, but do look into that). Those commercial sprays are even worse, I wouldn’t even cook with those sprays in my pan! These oils (even olive) makes the pan get gross and sticky when it cools. Just wipe down after cooking with these oils while the pan is still warm (not hot of course). After washing dry dry dry! I’ll put it on top of the stove and warm it up, or the oven, to fully dry, then season. You will figure out what works for you though. *Oh and when heating to cook, gradually heating seems to work the best, I let mine get hot for 10 min on low-med heat I graduated to carbon steel 😵. Best

But my next pan is that always pan…. I just love the way it look…. It is so beautiful…….
