Firestarter is a better novel than a movie. It's not Steven King's best by any means, but it's a lot more coherent and the tension is there.

As for TV shows, I've been watching "The Great" on Stan. It is the "occasionally true story" of Catherine the Great. It's witty, funny, deep... I recommend it. 🙂

Yeah it's definitely a show that gets so much better as it goes on! It's also one of those shows where all the side characters are better than the main characters and once you fall in love with them, you're hooked

Maid is so good! If you don’t know the lead is Andie McDowell’s real daughter and they are both amazing. It’s based on a memoir that takes place out where I live in Port Townsend Washington. So much heart in this show and it’s so well done, it will definitely make you cry. As far as other TV shows to watch, the big one in my circle is Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max! Ohhh boy is it great! Lots of New Zealanders in the cast including Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby as the lead. Super funny abs I’m like you where I don’t like most comedies but this one hits the mark perfectly and is so much more than just a comedy. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just say it’s a pirate show like you’ve never seen before! I really hope you check it out, especially cus I’m pretty sure you really liked What We Do in The Shadows and the humor is very similar. I am still working my way through Masters of Horror, and only have four episodes left, and they are considered the best episodes. I like the show, but have yet to find a 10/10 episode, so I have high hopes. The only movie I have really watched is 1971's "Wake In Fright". It was really good, but with the subject matter, I am not sure I want to watch it again. I am hoping to check out more Australian horror.

I just watched "Wake in Fright" (The original) and it scarred me, and knowing that "scene" was actually footage of a REAL hunt, did NOT make it any better. It was an overall good film, but I could never watch it again.

I thought Jessica Chastain absolutely nailed the role of Tammy Faye Bakker. Having seen the original documentary (that has the same title) from 2000, her portrayal was uncanny. And Andrew Garfield was equally as good as Jim Bakker. But thanks again, Emma, for another great list. More titles to add to my queue! :)

I watched Severance this month and it's so good! I can't wait for season 2. It was not at all what I expected from the trailer - it was really amazing. Such a great cast. I warmly recommend it to everyone. I´ve also seen X and Studio 666. Liked them both very much.

I’ve finished Ozark and I’m so sad it’s over. I tried the first couple episodes of Shining Girls but honestly couldn’t get into it (but I may give it another shot). Watching The Staircase, Candy and The Girl From Plainville... soO much true crime adaptation rn O_O! The Staircase is peak intrigue and def one to follow. The Girl From Plainville unpacks a wild case that most people probably heard about and brings a lot of thought and tact to suicide discussion... It's style feels a bit suited toward a teen audience that might benefit from the themes and nuance explored, but the psychology is great/fascinating and Elle Fanning is totally brilliant

Maid was incredible! It actually presents mental illness and poverty with nuance instead of sensationalizing it into this simplistic, harmful thing. IT's not perfect, but it's damn good

It's funny, with "We're All Going to the World's Fair", I didn't like the premise, or even the story particularly but I LOVED the movie, I think because of the execution, and the lead gave such a jaw dropping, hair raising performance, I thought.

i think the best film about the s*icide forest is Sea of Trees by Gus van Sant. Not a horror, though it does have a supernatural twist. It also got destroyed by critics, is totally operatic and "theatrical" (staging and acting feels like a stage play save for Watts who is incredible), flawed indeed, but definitely worth watching. It's also A24. It's mostly forgotten but I think it's up for reappraisal, it's not that bad, McConaughey, Watanabe, and especially Watts all give great performances. Definitely worth watching.

I loved "Maid". So good and love Margaret Qualley. She was so good in it. I am also watching "Shining Girls." Really liking it but so confused. Like "Memento" but having a harder time following what is going on.

A few other things I am watching, to maybe help if someone has missed them. BTW I am in the US. The Offer. It is about the making of the Godfather movie told by the Producers point of view and story. Paramount +. The second Season of the Flight Attendant. HBO Max. At first I did not feel it needed a second season and was hesitant, but it is good. I have not started watching it yet, but "The Staircase" on HBO Max. Same story as the Netflix Documentary but some have said it was really good and even if they knew what happened form the Doc. Lucky for me, I never saw it, :) I just finished "Tokyo Vice". Loved it except how it ended? HBO Max.
