I think really the smartest move with the Lannisters is to sentence the Mountain to death, who will immediately demand trial by combat. Ned can't really deny him, but he can choose Jaime as his champion and let him know that if he wins this thing, he will absolve himself of the charges of kingslaying at the same time. Tywin will be immediately on board with this. Even though this means he's still losing, he will think Ned was decent enough to provide him an off-ramp that lets him salvage the situation by keeping his heir AND getting him dismissed from the Kingsguard. You gain some, you lose some. Even if Jaime wasn't a master at swordfighting who could take on the Mountain, Tywin would still ensure he's the one who wins that trial by combat. On the night before the duel, he's going to sit Gregor down, tell him he has to do what he has to do and there are going to be no hard feelings, and let's drink to the inevitable victor while quietly slipping something in Clegane's wine that gives him a brutal hangover the morning of the fight. Jaime is cleared of the charges under the laws of gods and men, and Ned can live with the outcome. After that, even though Master of Coin is a downgrade for Tywin and he lost his most powerful terror weapon, he knows he can turn this around. He has his favoured son to succeed him once more, he can get Sandor to take over as the head of House Clegane to put on a (relatively) friendlier face, and he's still on the inside in King's Landing. If he can arrange some kind of marriage with the Starks, Arryns or Targaeryans, he's still on track to make his House greater than when he took over from his daddy. He's too pragmatic to just throw a hissy fit, especially once that stinker Balon proves to Westeros why it's better to remain united and at peace with the new regime.

The notion that Ned would be a Targaryen restorationist is ridiculous. They killed his family. He would probably not look to exterminate them but he would maybe let them keep dragonstone. Robert is going to essos to work as a sellsword as he always wanted. Renly is married to cerci, which is a winwin because she can fuck who she wants and he wont mind. Stannis is master of ships, Jon arryn is HOTK, Doran or Oberyn is master of laws. Jamie is booted from the kingsguard which actually appeases tywin. Tywin is master of coin because hes good at it. Varys is master of whispers because hes good at it. Ned is almost certainly establishing a Stark dynasty because no way in hell hes handing it back to the targaryens and what other option is there.

One way or another,Tywin's getting Jaime back. Ned can think whatever he likes,but he has enough sense to take Lorch and the Mountain's heads in exchange for relieving Jaime of his vows. That would also appease the Martells somewhat if he sent them their heads,or even better if he could get them to Oberyn alive. Also I would like to think that Jaime would tell him about the wildfire in this case,as Ned will literally be in charge of King's Landing for the forseeable future and I think that would defo convince him that Jaime did the right thing. It's a win win for both parties,especially if Tywin gets to be master of coin AND he finally gets his golden heir back. It would do a lot to alleviate the fact that Cersei won't be marrying into the royal family. Also I feel like there should be a way for him to conclude that the Kingsguard would never guard a bastard which defo might lead him on a trail to find the documents at the citadel. Ain't no point in replacing Aerys with Viserys.

That thumbnail is nasty work. Anyways, here's my theory: Ned arrives in kings landing and immedietly arrests Jaimie in the throne room. A fight between Stark and Lannister forces breaks out. So Ned Stark stays in Kings landing to secure it for the rebels. Robert recovers and decides to go get his betrothed at the tower of joy. He uncovers the truth about Rhaegar and Lyanna, kills Arthur Dayne in a wild rage. He takes Dawn and disappears over the narrow sea. He spends years fighting for sellsword companies and in fighting pits, mad with grief and regret. Ned Stark stays in Kings Landing and assumes power. Roberts men bring back the truth and Aegon Targaryen. Eddard stays king regent until Aegon is of age. The greyjoy rebellion happens again of course, this time with Lannister and Dornish support (the dornish would just be pissed that their still alive Targaryen heir was passed over). Robert comes back and dies in a mad blaze of glory to help his beloveds Targaryen Son.

Robert Baratheon is injured after the Battle of the Trident. The easiest way (and probably the only way) to see Ned taking up the mantel of King is if Robert’s injuries develop gangrene or something and dies from his injuries. Leaving the rebellion leaderless. Ned would be the only replacement that would allow the Rebellion to continue as strong as it did. That’s why Robert made Ned lead the rest of the Rebellion while he rested and healed from his injuries after the battle of the Trident

I think viserys and margery as a marriage makes more sense since the reach is a large kingodm and has the largerst food stores and thats needed after a large war, daenerys would more than likely marry robb, since at this point sansa wouldnt be born so links his line to the throne and appeases the other realm. Ned also could find out that Rhaegar divorced Elia and married Lyanna, making Jon the first in line for the Throne, in this scenario it would make sense that he would declare himself regent. About Jaime, he wouldn't send the son of Tywin to the Wall without a proper trial where at the end the Lannister could end revealing Aerys plan to burn the city, after they find the wildfire Ned with be in a dilemma, Jaime broke his vows and killed the liege he vowed to protect but at the same time he fulfilled his vows as knight to protect the innocent, Jon Arryn would advice him that the best solution would be to expel Jaime from the Kingsguard and declare him a hero for saving the people of King's Landing. This way Ned's sense of justice is fulfilled, Tywin will satisfied to have his heir back and Jaime might not turn into the cynical person he is at the beginning of the books.

I've a feeling that Euron is being completely underestimated here. He's a free agent with his own aims that would not choose to go down with another character in the traditional squabbles over the "Game". The guy can't really be grouped with anyone, he's following plot threads that have been buried forever. went to Valyria and survived... with treasure, and seems to have found one of Westeros's legitimate routes to the occult out of the ether. (Rereading this, I did not intend the vaguely rhyming verse out of those lines) Over the course of his dealings, I think that more than a few of the "Chessmaster"-level characters may find him useful enough to keep around while trying to make sure they aren't being manipulated themselves. Not to mention if that horn of his truly acts as advertised. The return of the dragons seems like one of those inevitable events that fate will see through one way or another and Euron has spent years acclimating himself like some kind of evil Merlin.

I think if Ned’s made king it’s definitely as king regent and Viserys will become king once he is of age, now who he’s betrothed to I’m not sure maybe Sansa? But I could also see Sansa be betrothed to a possible Robert son so that Baratheon and Stark are finally joined. Ned I think stays with Cat Rob gets betrothed to Danaerys as a back up plan if Viserys is just a cry baby Chad no matter how he’s raised. Jon I think is sent to the north to be raised by Benjen who’s the lord of winterfell, then Arya, Bran and Rickon are all married off for alliances maybe one of them is married off to a Martell prince or princess. I then think Ned removes Jamie as a kings guard A cause he doesn’t trust him and B he can return to being Tywins heir as a reward to Tywin aiding the rebellion (I think the mountain gets sent to Dorne and the Martells can do with him as they see fit for revenge) then I think Cersei is possibly married off to Benjen in the North, kind of a weird match but it would get her away from Jamie and I could see Benjen being charming enough to win over Cersei and that way they’ll have kids and Tywin hopefully would stay loyal to the Starks cause now he has Stark grandchildren and Ned spared his son who can now continue the Lannister name.

I think Tywin will probably do everything he could to save Jaime. But of course Ned would never let that happen since Jaime did broke his oath so he'll send Jaime to the Wall. But I think here comes the role of Jon Arryn the diplomatic savvy try to make Ned reconsider his decision. Telling this will make the Lannisters 'unfriendly' to him which not a good option. And Ned will probably listen to Jon's advice since Ned sees him as a mentor and he knew that Jon is a wise man.

I don’t think Ned would declare himself king But, if Ned witnessed what Gregor and Amory Lorch did at Tywin’s command, and saw how Robert Baratheon reacted positively to the deaths of Elia, Aegon and uhh I forget the daughters name. Then I could see Ned going to the tower of joy, realizing Robert is gonna kill baby Jon. Maybe Lyanna is already dead so never drops the “promise me” and Author Dayne explains the situation to ned. So maybe instead of a battle, we get Ned and Author (plus the other kings guard) teaming up to put Viserys on the throne and Ned acts as regent and cares for Viserys, Dany, and Jon aka Aemon. THAT would be badass. I think Viserys was a bad coin flip but if anyone can raise a dragon prince to be honorable it’s Ned. Id be curious to see what Viserys is like, still crazy but maybe a bit less arrogant and rapey.

16:00 when they are talking bout what to do with jaime and the mountain and tywins need for greed. simply put put the lannister up agaisnt the mountain, have the mountain be championed by a weak guy or have tywin pull a Daemon from s2 HoTD and have him answer for his bannermans crimes by killing him himself whether its by the axe or several archers and crossbowmen. Then have jaime released or take on the challenger of the mountain after hegives confession on why he did it think just chopping off the silver hand instead of the golden one so that he still has his good hand, have him confess. pardon him from kingsguard which makes Tywin happy, send him off to the rock make tywin master of coin and BOOM everyone is generally happy at the outcome of why things need to be settled in that order

I think a more sensible "What if" in this case would be, what if "Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon would have agreed on an independent Northern Kingdom" It would have fit with Ned Starks sense for duty and loyalty, even as independent, he wouldn't turned his back on Robert, and it also could have fit to Roberts loyalty towards Ned and his entire view on the Starks in general. - About the Scenario, I don't think Ned would send Jaime to the wall. I think he would acknowledge that releasing Jaime from his duties as Kingsguard to return back to Casterly Rock would add some favor with Tywin and thus stability. We know that Ned can take some injustice if it can prevent further, even if he is visually unhappy with it. I think he would offer Tywin a trade. The Mountain for Jaime. The Mountain will be put on trial, will demand Trial by Combat, because that is for sure. The Mountain will if put on trial fight for it. So the trade would be to have Jaime kill the Mountain, that will "redeem" Jaime so far that he isn't send to the wall, but for him failing in his duty as Kingsguard, he will be released back into his family, with no way to ever become a Kingsguard ever again. This will be a blow to Jaimes pride, he though has no real choice here, as he'd otherwise would go to the wall. It would gain influence and favor with Tywin to some degree, as Ned would also prove to Tywin that he in fact is not just a Soldier. It would gain favor with the Dornish, as condemning the Mountain for his crimes will be something they will acknowledge and to some degree at least respect. Ned isn't stupid. He's blinded by loyalty and his ideals, but not entirely. I mean, the most obvious hint at his naivity is the trust he puts on Littlefinger, but that is based on Catelyn. Without Catelyn, he wouldn't have trusted Littlefinger even a bit. She trusts Littlefinger, and Ned trusts Catelyn.

Aight spark notes on my opinions: 1) Ned sees himself as king regent not king. 2) Ned affirms Robb as heir to winterfell only. 3) Ned would know if Jon is a bastard or not. If Jon is not, Ned will secretly raise him to be the next king. 4) the rebel lords would never accept Viserys. And Ned would fear aerys hereditary madness too much. Visy would be offered safe passage and comfort as a prince but not king. Never king. 5) Ned keeps Jon’s identity a secret till he comes of age to keep him safe. 6) Ned would insist Robb be raised in winterfell, probably with benjon as regent lord paramount. 7) unsure if carelyn stays in KL or winterfell. Thus also unsure on the existence of the rest of stark children. 8) potential Ashara return as a potential mother figure for Jon 9) balon still rebels and still loses. Plays out similar 10) Jaime is sent to the wall for sure. Tywin outright rebels or plans secret revenge for sure.

Ned was equally disgusted by Jaime, Tywin and The Mountain, I dont see a way the Mountain lives, tywin and Jaime will prob goto the wall. Tywin becomes lord commander and gets the nights watch in order in quick shape, almost too fast. Recruitments go up 800% across the reach, he starts becoming a real power. Rywin then instills his own taxes in the north to pay for all the reconstruction on the wall, eastwach an for food for all the new men commanding them. Tywin truly has his own kingdom now. Ned being In Kings landing is slow to act, too slow, an now is basically facing a new king in the north with multiple castles, an army and riches beyond tbe throne. Tywin also calls in his debts from the crown, millions of debt accrued over the years, an if you know the story of the last houses who scoffed when tywin wanted to collect his debts, the rains of castermere, you know that he doesn't mess around. If the crown can't pay then tywin would, in a way, have sway over the throne. All these facets factor in to Ned proclaiming thar tywin has made himself a king, an is I'm quiet rebellion. Demands the nights watch turn him over but they realize the new recruits are either wvry loyal to tywin or like alot of them, are actually the lannister personal army of casterly rock. Tywin knee what he was going to do. He knew what Ned was going to do. This was all part of the plan. Bow it's just a matter of getting his family name out of the soon to be relegated to nothingness and take it back into kings landing an onto the Iron Throne. This is where Is end the first book, right on the cusp of what sure seems to be The World War of Westeros.

The maesters know that reagar and lian were legal. Dorn chick that got murdered knew that she was being set aside for lian and so dorn might know that it was intended to be legal.
