Considering the esteem that Kaido holds Oden’s power in to this day, the fact that Oden immediately severely wounded Kaido before being tricked and caught off guard, and considering that in a one on one fight it is said that Kaido is the most powerful, it’s not an exaggeration to say that if Oden were still alive and given the same amount of time to get more powerful he would be at least an equal to Kaido as the strongest in the world.

Kaido is probably tied with Shanks or they trade off in strengths and weaknesses of individual stats. As in they aren’t equal but they’re relative to eachother in diff aspects of strengths & weaknesses. Nobody alive would be Roger (Pirate king Level?) & Raleigh is probably Yonko level. I think Kaido and Raleigh would be close or relative bc Roger being PK means he clears ALLLLL rivals and means his 2nd in command gotta be Yonko level. True and Whitebeard could have played the commander role for longer with Oden charging the Admirals. He could have even stopped Squard in time if he was near Whitebeard. He might even be the one fighting Akainu. If so Akainu would definitely get destroyed, and at that point Garp probably have to get involved. At that point they probably stalemate until Luffy saves Ace. Whitebeard was still the strongest Yonko he just couldn't use his haki consistently, because of the sickness he had. If he didn't have the sickness messing with his haki plus having Oden with him, it would be a terrifying time for the marines.

Oden was already yonko level when he died. The narrator stated he was equal to the worlds greatest pirates upon his return, meaning he was already on WB/roger level against kaido. Hence why he overpowered Him. Had oden survived, he’d undoubtedly be the worlds strongest swordsman, and would likely be even stronger than WB was. Marineford would get smoked

At marineford, he would be the worlds strongest swordsman, not mihawk, and he’d be more powerful than WB was in prime. He’d be the strongest at marineford without a doubt. Off principle oden would annihilate Blackbeard for what he did to ace. Even if WB protested. Blackbeard would have no chance. And WB wouldn’t have died at marineford.

There was a bunch of stuff in that chapter that was kind of bad, like the majority of the waiters siding with Chopper because he saved a few of them from the Ice-Demon virus and Monster Point being able to damage Queen ffs, but I honestly don’t have a problem with Hyogoro still being alive or the Oden thing. The only reason Hyogoro wanted to die was because he was going to become an Ice-Oni, and it’s not like his character arc is actually complete yet. I HEAVILY doubt that that’s the real Oden, too. What with the fact that Hiyori/Toki are nowhere to be seen, all the lights are on, he has both his swords back somehow, he’s not injured from the boiling pot/he hasn’t aged at all, and Oda has never brought a character back from a flashback, either (aside from Sabo).

One thing being forgotten in the Shogun scenario: Whitebeard’s side enters the battle with LOADS of kairoseki armaments due to Wano’s forges. Just how a lucky hit with seastone neutralized Marco at a vital moment, an Admiral could get downed at a critical point in the battle.

I agree with you that somebody shouldn't just be stronger cause they're captain and i don't think Oden being alive would've had any impact on WB's health. I think KoL is underestimating Old Whitebeard. Dude TKO'd Akainu and had BB in position where it looks like he was gonna get beat too if his crew didn't jump. And most of the dmg WB took was due to his handicap minor heat attacks. I think even with that handicap, Old WB still has crazy bursts of attack and heart that can down any character. That said, I have prime Oden at top tier level (admiral/Yonkou levels). By this i mean he can beat any character, but also get beat. It's circumstantial depending on what other factors are there during the battle.

In the what-if situation where Sabo is at Marineford Oda hints that it would be enough to tip the scales in whitebeard's favor and Ace would escape. That's JUST Sabo. If Shogun Oden is there + the Scabbards (admiral attention across the board) + the entire Mink army (easily fodderizes 80% of the marines in terms of strength) you're looking at a situation heavily in Whitebeard's favor where his orders control the pace of the war. Assuming he doesn't get that sneak shot from Squardo we're looking at a Whitebeard who not only has a massive numbers and strength advantage, but he also is fresh and gets to use his devil fruit to the maximum of it's ability. Simply put Marineford most likely sinks into the ocean.

the matchups I am seeing in this situation is that as a commander: whitebeard - sengoku oden - akainu marco - kizaru jozu - aokiji vista - mihawk necomamushi and inuarushi just wrecking places. or one of them fights doflamingo. or two of them. either way sengoku is forced to join and cannot make tactics. or lead the rest of the marines. and it will cause a lot more destruction for marines. even of the somewhat win their losses would be much more to even worth it. as a shogun: a stronger scabbards is devastating for marines. denjiro is strong and this time so would be kinemon. who can maybe deal with akainu. whitebeard - sengoku denjiro and kinemon - akainu ashura doji and marco - kizaru kawamatsu and jozu - aokiji oden - mihawk (this would be an onslaught for both sides since both are going serious or even all out) rest of the scabbards and commanders are just wrecking the vice admirals( except garp and tsuru) a prospered wano and zou means more much better quality fighters. meaning better minks, like the 3 musketeers and 3 top guardians.( so pedro is alive) and the chance of yakuza bosses also joining the fight which means a still somewhat prime boss hyogoro can join. a better trained group of ninjas can easily sneak in the marine HQ and sabotage all defenses, or even turn them against the marines, and because sengoku is forced to fight actively, he cannot divert his attention to any of this and marines could get disoriented. and of you really let zunisha join, I wouldnt be surprised if sengoku straight up surrenders. because that is a wipeout.

@Boogy Ah this, I agree with. They are not the same but you can be both and I'd argue samurai are almost always swordsmen. It comes as part of the culture/practice. I was disagreeing with someone saying that oden is not a swordsman because he's a samurai, which makes no sense. In my mind, in 95% of cases being a samurai automatically makes you a swordsman, but being a swordsman does not make you a samurai. As you said, plenty of people use swords and could call themselves swordsmen, but those same people could not call themselves samurai. Oden is obviously both though

Oden is strong strong enough to be admired by both Gol D Roger and Whitebeard in his prime. He was a commander on Whitebeard's ship, then accompanied Roger and went to Raftel. We also got to see Oden's determination to save his subordinates. Oden wielded the Ame no Habakiri, and Enma. Both extremely powerful swords. He himself was one of the best swordsman of his time.

Oden with the WB Pirates is a complete reversal situation easy clap. Like Oden not dying and instead continuing to grow more powerful the entire time, you're left with another Yonko level individual who isn't sick and old like Whitebeard, who's still a monster despite those factors. Going off of that means if Oden is the shogun that Kaido is almost certainly not a factor any more which means Shanks doesn't get delayed going to Marineford which means you have THREE Yonko level combatants going into the fight not even taking into account their crews which are also completely stacked with Marco, Vista, Jozu, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, Beckman, Yassop, Lucky Roux, Denjiro, Ashura Doji, and the rest of the Scabbards. Then you throw PTS Luffy, Jinbe, Ivankov, and Crocodile showing up as well? Plus Hancock switches sides still and Mihawk steps down because he won't fight Shanks? I'm sorry but when you put Sengoku, Garp, Akainu, Aokiji, Kizaru, Kuma, Doffy, Moria, and Smoker as your lineup against THAT, they don't stand a chance even with all of the Admirals. You can even include Mihawk in this situation and they still hard lose. Oden or Shanks absolutely can compete with this greatest swordsman. Blackbeard would most likely never have tried to betray and surpass whitebeard. Which means no Marine War, at least not at that time. Blackbeard is ultimately a coward, a very scheming coward. Having to eventually deal with Chaden, even if we consider that he was at Wano at the time BB killed Thatch is too big of a risk... even if we consider that The Chad of Wano would make an appearance only in the pay back war (generous assumption since he would most likely participate in the Marine War), it would still be too much of a threat for Blackbeard. BB would have to change his plan dramatically.

Blackbeard relied a lot on luck in his plan. It seems to me that because of what character he has, he would still do what he did. In war, he simply would not have betrayed the navy at first. He would fight on their side with all his crew to get the Whitebeard Fruit in the turmoil. If Oden didnt die and was allowed to continue his growth, I would have him prob top 1. I think if he went to Marineford with his boys to help WB that they wouldn't win but Ace and many Wb pirates dont die. They would be able to escape too.
