Tough Claws on Zard-X would still boost the special attacks as long as they where contact moves, which I think outrage and flare blitz still would be. Grass Knot on m-meta was always boosted by tough claws still. I think that makes special zard-x really interesting in this situation

I’m not sure we would even HAVE the Fairy type without a Gen 5 dominated by DragMag. No physical Outrage means the dragons really don’t hit as hard as they did in our timeline, meaning there’s no need for Fairy to come along and say “no fun for you Dragons.” Alternatively, maybe Fairy is a more balanced type altogether. Maybe it only resists Dragon, maybe it has a relationship with the Bug type that gives Bug something new to do. Who knows?

Outrage wasn't the only thing making DragMag so powerful, remember that. Latios is the obvious example of a mon that to this day is still, in my opinion, to its very core a gen 5 OU terrorist. Now imagine it can spam specs outrage rather than drop to -2 after the hit with draco. It's less immediate power on the initial hit but all of a sudden you're threatening grab more than just one kill every time it comes in after you chip one of the few checks to it. Not to mention that pursuit is special in this alternate timeline, so ttar isn't trapping it as effectively and I can't really think of any special dark types from gen 5 that would want to sit in front of a specs latios and click pursuit.

All the dark type moves in Sucker Punch, Knock off and Pursuit will make special attackers way more threatning than physical attackers in theory. So maybe Pokemon like Zoroark and Houndoom could be way better. For oras case Tornadus T and especially Serperiors Knock off will hit way harder. And Pokemon like Scizor losing pursuit is really bad too, managable but having pursuit was alwas a great tool. Also rest in peace Weavile :(

There was a little period of time in PokeMMO where it was still only the first three generations of Pokemon, moves, and abilities available but it had a bunch of updated mechanics from new gens like physical/special split, 5 turn sand, stat buffs to certain mons, buffed moves (although iirc they deliberately withheld the knock off buff and maybe the outrage buff too?) and gave Pokemon their current gen move and ability options. It was an interesting window into what may have been.

Some interesting things I think are worth mentioning: Nidoking becomes really weird, because now it's stabs of earth power and sludge wave are physical nukes, but it loses its incredible cover unless it runs mixed sets. Lando I is probably just even more broken Lando-t can run HP flying, which would probably be decent on some sets. Mega Gengar is bizarre to even think about. Lucario has much greater coverage issues in all of the generations it's featured in Blissey is probably way better in gen 4 ubers

Eh SD Lucario in modern DPP generally prefers Crunch to Ice Punch because Rotom/Gengar tend to be bigger concerns than Gliscor/Dragonite for the teams its featured on, so SD Lucario would just slot Shadow Ball to serve the exact same purpose. Sure you're now walled by Gliscor and don't threaten Dragonite ever, but that's not really a big deal in terms of how you build for Lucario. Sure Nasty Plot sets become unviable but SD is the better set anyways, and it can run a mixed Lure set with Ice Punch. And Mega Lucario's most popular set is SD CC Iron Tail BP so that's the exact same.

Something important to mention: Gen 5 Latios would be busted (More busted i mean) because no physical crunch and pursuiters being bad against latios in general (houndoom for example dies to surf). One major benefit would be that the type chart actually matters. Right now, stats matter way more than typing because every pokemon can use their best stats to hit any pokemon in the game for super effective damage. That is, perhaps, a bit of an over-exaggeration, but that's effectively what the physical/special split does. I think it'd be pretty interesting to see teams being made to counter general strategies rather than specific teams, and removing the physical/special split would make that a much more impactful teambuilding style.

nah, it still needs to go because of sand veil. That ability is beyond stupid in generations with permanent sand (it caused CACTURNE of all pokes to be banned from OU in gen 3). But without it it suddenly starts to struggle against a lot of the other dragons (unless it runs the chain chomp set but thats a different story) and might be reasonably enough to handle to be able to stay. But again, sand veil ...

A lot of Pokemon would lose their niche as another can do it too without STAB. Without weaknesses... how do you kill Pex?

It's not only about the offensive, but looking at the types and stats some mons have big defensive coverage. Like psychic beeing hit by darc type. Darc is special, so high special defense psychic pokemon do not have a threat in darc type. With these clear physical and special splits you can invest stats differently and have a LOT less threats.

So the video is missing the defensive side of the physical/special split nearly completely. There were only 2 mentions: Rock type beeing hit by fighting changes, yes. Rock becomes stronger. Dragon type with special defense is great -> BKC said Latias needs to be hit by a ghost type. So that's the only analysis about type changes. There is like half a Video missing in my opinion!

tbh I see gen 3 as being a bigger jump in power than gen 4 due to the ev limit making everything much much more frail. I kinda take issue with gen 3 for it's lack of split since it can cause some very polarizing effects for consistency as mons don't really always have things to click that are able to at least make some progress. Generally I find gen 3 has some of the most extreme differences in matchups for Pokémon which often makes midground plays much less practical creating situations where the whole game can suddenly be over from a turn in a manner much like gen 5 and in some ways worse as the lack of speed control like scarf or priority in a ev capped metagame really cuts into back ups to deal with threats, god forbid it's other factors that lead to it such as trappers. I say this as someone who plays a decent amount of each gen and enjoys all of them except 3.
