On my work we have a rule that once a hour, we must stand up and do some sort of exercise each hour for 15 minutes. We got a job where we mostly cit behind a desk and computer. So this is good because you won't stay in the same position for 8 hours. Maybe this should be a rule in all jobs everywhere. Because a healthier worker, is a better worker!

I have to wake up at 5am for work tomorrow. Me at 2am: “What would happen if I never sat or lay down?”
@Snidebark6 жыл бұрын
Correction: “sat or lay down”, or, “sit or lie down”, but not, “sit or lay down”. “Sat” and “lay” are both past tense; “sit” and “lie” are both present tense”, but “sit” and “lay” mixes tenses, so doesn’t make sense.
@aerofxunme6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Snidebark for the grammar lesson. Helps people like me who are non-native English speakers.
@robertwoodall43306 жыл бұрын
aerofxunme I would highly advise you don't take grammar tips found on the internet. In this case, snidebark is correct in terms of which to use. The problem comes when two users from the US and UK start talking. You will find they disagree strongly on a lot of topics and both feel they are right - and they are. Because language is not a solid concept, it's always evolving. All that aside, just know that the KZbin comment section is the last place to accept a grammar lesson lol. People will argue like crazy about what's right and wrong. It's usually the case that non-native speakers actually speak English better than natives. America is also full of idiots who can't even spell let alone form valid sentences - that's coming from an American.
@Snidebark6 жыл бұрын
Ultimately, if you are being understood as you mean to be understood, you are getting it right. However, the best way to ensure that you are being understood as you mean to be understood is to eliminate as much as possible the chance that you won’t be; and that is done with good grammar and punctuation. The Comments section on KZbin certainly isn’t the best place to get tips on grammar, but maybe it can cause anyone interested enough to go to a credible authority.

For one, if you were doing a standing challenge, you could have serious health problems due to sleep deprivation. If that didn't get you, the amount of buildup (I can't remember what it's called, but it's what makes your legs hurt when they stay in the same position for a long time) in your legs and other parts will. One man had sat in the same position for 3 days straight. As soon as he stood up, the buildup went to his heart and died a little bit after due to a heart attack.

To lay down is to set something down on the floor like a mat or to place something like a book on a table. To lie down is to rest your body on the floor or on something else. Therefore the title should be, "What if you never sit or lie down?" Lay is also the past tense of lie which makes things complicated for people. The title could also be "What if you never sat or lay down?" This would change the title to past tense, but it would be correct. I just wanted to point that out because it's a common mistake.

as someone who has several pain/autoimmune diseases (for example, i have: lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and MCDT) i've only been able to work standing jobs because in my area, employers dont think you deserve to sit unless you have a masters degree in college (which i just graduated HS or was in HS at the time) and each time it triggered a flareup so bad that i either missed a month of work and got fired, nearly died from a flareup and was hospitalized for months, or most recently a flare that happened over a year and a half ago leaving me completely bedridden, needing of a wheelchair, and SEVERE pain. i warned my employers that i have serious illness and that i NEED to sit because overworking my body can cause serious, or even fatal flareups. they didnt care. now im in the longest flare of my life and on several HEAVY medications just to survive. i wish employers cared more about their workers health. you dont look more professional JUST because you stand. you look unprofessional when you overwork your sick employee and they faint, knocked out cold on the floor.

I've been standing all day every day since the end of 2016 (I do lay down to sleep) but I have had none of the negative effects that we're mentioned in the video

Oh that's another easy one and it may explain partially why we must sleep. We have to lay horizontally a certain amount of time regularly every night or fluids accumulate in the ankles and feet. Anyone who has ever stayed vertical including sitting if not up and at it for several days even long hours travelling at a time will know gravity pulls the fluids down and equilibrium will not restore without proper horizontal rest. And swollen ankles and feet are a very bad sign of failing circulation. 🛌=😊👣

When I worked retail, 15 minutes wasn’t enough of a break. I would be scheduled for 5 hours, but work 6-8. I was 15 pounds underweight, and I would wake up in the middle of the night in utter pain. My legs would cramp up, and it would take forever to relax them back enough so that I could fall back asleep. I was in my early 20s, so I should’ve been healthy.
