Bloodbowl is connected to the 40k setting because in a story a wizard made a portal and a imperial catcher (i don't fully remember what he was only that he was human) fell in seen metal skeletons fighting four armed bug men before grabbing the ball and going back through the portal. Only to have a genestealer follow him rip him apart take the ball and score a touchdown before running off to do who knows what

For how brutal Blood Bowl is of a sport, it is the closest of noblebright version of Warhammer ever. Like yeah, they tend to kill eachother during the matches quite often, but compared to all the craziness and grimdarkness of WH, it is still really nice solution to deal with the problems without fighting another apocalyptic war. You want halfing stories? Heres one. Was playing at a 3 round Charity cup tournament with halflings. Round two go against a high elf team. Game overall goes to whooping score of zero to zero. I managed stall the player to a draw and he refuses to talk to me for months.

Story two. Playing against a goblin team. I take out all of his secret weapon players and managed to pitch clear the goblins and win the game with a score of 5 to zero. The cost? My treemen who lived the whole season, who had block, was killed that game by a mass fouling goblins.

@@FatherOfConqs Was certain rule set where in addition standard skill package the charity event had a item they gave one player Daunltess, frenzy and wrestle. mostly stole most of his rerolls, his rolls bombed hard and the treemen held the line. Finally turn 8 second half his runner got by team was about to score till my Super halfling pushed him into side lines dropping the ball.

The funniest story i have was when me and my brother where playung gutterbowl (another spin-off) and it was underworld denizens vs Humans, a scrimmage had formed between his troll and 4 gobins and my 3 linemen and 1 Blitzer (who was the ball carrier). It was my brother's turn and he had his troll pick up one of his goblins and try to throw it in the middle of it all with the hopes that during the deviation the player would hit one of mine knocking it over and setting up a play, he fumbled the throw and dropped the goblin on to one of his own and knocking it out. It doesn't end there though as a funny thing about throwing a player is that; if it lands on someone, they bounce off, however when determining where they land, the rules don't specify it needs to be unoccupied, so a thown player can bounce onto a another player and contiue to bounce until it finally lands. The dropped goblin would fall onto my lineman (failed to break armour), then bounce onto another one of his goblins and stun it, bounce onto a third goblin and kill it, bounce back onto the previous goblin stunning it again, and finish by bouncing onto the troll and knocking it out before landing stunning itself. The best part about this was the goblin he'd used i had modeled and painted to look like Jerma985, we had thus named it: "The dumptruck Andy incident".

The amount of interaction, the robust rules plus all the randomness makes for an extremely exciting game. Quick lore justification: Daemon Planet that is ruled by an Undivided god of games. He traps nearby ships and drags them down. Since I learned about this game Blood Bowl, back in 3rd edition, late 90's, if I'm correct. I am sold to this game: role-play, player and team development. I call it playing chess with dice, since it's turn based and all important moves require a dice roll. And the coolest mechanic is the Turn-over: if you of you 11 players fucks up, the turn abruptly ends and it's the oppositions turn. Even if it was the first players you activated that turn. This leeds to many meaningful choices and make it hard to predict what tactic is the best for winning a certain match.

BB was one of those skirmish-scale specialist games you could role play. Same with Mordheim, Necromunda, Full Tilt and Gorkamorka. They created funky little stories. Gorkamorka created takes of serial crashes, orks clinging to trukks and rising up.

Fun fact, football refers to sport played on foot, as opposed to horseback. "American football" was modified rugby, the forward pass was later added to the sport. Soccer, was actually coined by the british, slang for "asSOCiation football" (soc'er) to delineate a difference from "rugby football." Football is just a very ambiguous term and doesnt actually describe a single sport specifically.

Throwing small players was an option for many teams. Halflings could also be tossed. Trolls, treemen etc could toss small players. Being killed in Blood Bowl is rare. You must roll dice with their Strength against yours, they must fail their Armour and then they must roll the worst critical injury result. But breaking someones arm or gouging an eye so they miss a game, or permanently injuring them with -1 Armour from a fractured skull can happen. Players are largely not carrying weapons. Unless they cheat. Blood Bowl is a game of risk management. Your initiative lasts until you have activated all players or until a roll fails. You take automatic actions like standing up and moving first. Then you must balance between how risky actions are and how badly you need them. A goblin that fumbles the ball will hand initiative to another player. A troll punching a human is usually safe, but there is a tiny chance the human will wallop the troll and make you cede initiative.

Bought it during the team rehash because I love Papa Nurgle, had no friends locally to play with, but just enjoyed having the models. This is more for the videogames, but my best teams are, ironically, Halflings and Goblins. Halflings stealing rerolls is fantastic and Goblins being able to hit above their weightclass because they cheat more than Zeus makes them a surprisingly credible threat in lower point games. Plus, having some guys walk onto the pitch with a chainsaw, a meteor hammer, literal bombs, and some weirdo on a pogostick is just great.

I play Necromantic. I lost to Halflings. Badly. A halfling punched my flesh golem with two red dice and somehow managed to get two pows. Broke his armor and killed him. That was the opening move. A tree then blitzed my other flesh golem and knocked him out. It was all down hill from there. I somehow only had three zombies, a werewolf, and a wraith at the end of that game. Everyone else was either KO’d, injured, or dead. It was the most hilarious game I ever played

Remember old video game magazines back in the day? In one of our locally available ones, someone was reviewing the pc version of this, and using funny quips for each pic, stuff like "not looking bright for a surrounded skaven", "bless this spiked pogača(type of stout slightly flat south slavic bread)", or "armored midget vs armored green brute", fun times :P Teams look...interesting, curious now for the rest of them. Lastly, that's no fantasy football, it's fantasy RUGBY! Football(calling it soccer is both an insult and "burn at the stake" kind of heresy) is supposed to be played mostly by foot(and only occasionally head), not carried by hand(except by the goalkeeper).

Blood Bowl is pretty cool looking. I sort of want to pick up a box and integrate them into my 40k collection. Ork "oddboyz" who obsessover violent sports and use every battle as an excuse to get some "real practice" in. I could even convert a Squigbuggy into a Ball Launcher instead.

It would be interesting if 40k is given its own equivalent of blood bowl. It will probably be in some hive or forgotten world with gangs, ab-humans, Xenos, and cults in the mix. It would be cool to have a game with lesser-known species playable, like a team of Felinid vs a team of Barghesi for example.

The cool thing about Blood Bowl is that you can use basically whatever minis you like. You could kit bash a Sisters of Battle team to run as Humans or Amazons and nobody would have an issue with it.
