I have no idea why the original creator used Alcohol Is Free as an example of a bad song 😭. That song was released during the financial crisis when Greece was hit HARD, it makes perfect sense that it was made! And it genuinely slaps ngl. And calling Lordi bad is a sin

He wasn't saying Alcohol is Free or Hard Rock Hallelujah is a bad song, they are just saying that the lyrics are absolutely amazing and Finland winning with rock music is pretty unusual.

First of all, it's not a singing competition, it's a song competition. Americans always want to compare it to American Idol and make it a singing competition but that's not it. Looking forward to seeing you react to more eurovision, these two were fun!

@@datboireggie5285 It's kinda sad and unfortunate how he only focused on the silly joking part of Eurovision and not the genuinely good and serious performances. Actually, the countries that are allowed to instantly be in the finale, are usually at disadvantage because the audience haven't seen them perform yet Also, next year it's in the Netherlands because of Duncan Laurence - Arcade, which was a nice song, but more specific his voice is just amazing. His newer songs since then are good too. Oh and yeah check out lordi too, lordi is amazing (also their other songs) Also, abba is a thing because of eurovision

@@datboireggie5285 Eurovision is more than a music event. Eurovision is a collaboration between national broadcasters in Europe. For example, the images of the first moon landing could be seen in Europe from the US, via the Telstar satellite and the further distribution by Eurovision. The Eurovision song contest is only part of what Eurovision does. Every year they provide the New Year's concert from Vienna and the ski jumping from Garmisch Partenkirchen in all participating countries. However, the rise of the Internet and faster international video and audio connections has diminished the significance of Eurovision somewhat.

Ireland does have the most wins, but to be fair, there was a rule for a long time that you could only sing in your county's native language(s), so Ireland absolutely dominated in the 90's (with a lot of British and Maltese top placements as well). Since they removed that rule, I believe Ireland's best placement has been something like 12th? Meanwhile, Sweden has won at least once every decade since the 70's (twice the last decade).

Americans would make great judges though... like, their geographical knowledge of europe is pretty bad, and they probably have no idea on the politics... so the only thing they can base their vote on is the song itself ^^ Also, the world doesn't hate the US, disappointed is probably a better word. so much potential, but so much of it is lost trough the politics (not specifically calling out either party), the extremes of capitalism etc that prevent it from reaching it's full awesome potential, which would benefit everyone.

he reason for there being 5 countries automatically qualifying to the final is because the pay more money than the others in order to compete so i wouldn't call that shady. Also they do not always troll the competition, for example this year France had an amazing and beautiful song and they ended up in 2nd place and Italy sent an amazing rock song and they won this year. You can check out those songs if you want :). Frances song is called "voila" by barbara pravi and Italys song is "Zitte e buoni" by Måneskin.

I have to disagree (A little). Yes, politics plays a role when it comes to scoring points. But the regional taste of the countries is also crucial. It is also not really possible to win the ESC only with neighbourhood points. Europe is too diverse for that. There is a video called "what is Eurovision" from the opening of the 2nd Semifinal of ESC 2016. That'll help too understand the hole thing. If you like to react to a touching ballad then try molitva from Marija Šerifović (2007) or Let Me Walk Alone from Michael Schulte (2018)

theres actually just 65 years (as of 2021) of eurovision but theres 68 winners (as of 2021) due a four way tie in first place in 1969 between France, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK. Since they didn't know what to do in case a tie happened then they just decided that the four countries would share the victory.

Actually the country that win the competition don't need to host it, they can give it out to a different country, and that's just because some of the smaller countries don't have a proper venue for the show. So those small countries are actually much better these days, their songs are really good too. Next thing, If Australia ever wins they can't organize contest in their country, it will be organized in Europe but with Australia being kind of ... A "host". So yeah USA would not organize Eurovision in their country as well ( if they would compete)... But... They will not compete cause American Song Contest organized by EBU ( European Broadcasting Union) is on their way ;)

eurovision is "laugthing and singing together is better than make war or compétition", on my point (i'm french, so sorry for my bad english). So it's a big crazy thing, with à lot of self-mockery and fun. it's a good way too to ear and discovery others country's music ( like ukrainian band for 2021 eurovision who is a very good one for my taste !!) But it's a compétition who is based on non-compétition and coutry's peace, so some country's do it very serously (they celebrate that we are together in Europe) and some not (they like dérision and party).

My oppinions: (I am Romanian) 1. I started watching Eurovision in 2002. In the last, let's say 3 years, I didn't "feel" that "political" voting system existed. I think people started to watch, on Internet, the National Selections and the videoclips of every country (which take place and which are released 3-5 months before Eurovision) and people started to have an oppinion beyond the "so-called sibling countries" and their "traditional frienships". 2. Eurovision evolved in the last 10 years. I don't think It's just a "Song Contest". For winning, you have to prepare the whole package: best song/voice/lyrics/backup-singers (sometimes they ruined a song) /staging... And all these mean a lot of money for an artist/a band!!! Think a bit: a singer has to pay for a song, liricist, dancers, backing-vocals, make-ups, costums, special effects..., so he/she can win the competition in his country and... he/she can loose it. IF he/she wins it, he/she can get sponsorship for Eurovision. Eurovision always takes place in May (every year) and has two Semifinals and one Final. 3. Despite the fact that a country/a singer should be prepared with the "whole package" for Eurovision, it happened that only a good Voice and a good Song won this contest - with a basic staging (Duncan Laurence - the Netherlands, 2019). But this meant that that song/voice was truly powerful. It happened also that an original song, after a weak performance (and no extra staging), won the competition. It's Netta's "Toy" (Israel, 2018) case. I was excited when I saw Netta's videoclip (there was no National Selection, that year, in Israel) and I felt it like a winning song. I checked her out on live performances (from Israel) and I discovered her being very good at playing that loopstation and at improvisation. Until Semifinals and Final (of Eurovision) nobody saw/heard her singing live. And..., live, at Eurovision, she was a dissapointment (for me). She was lack of breath during singing and walking on the stage. According to my taste, in 2018, Estonia or Cyprus should have won (I voted for Estonia). 4. Eurovision is a pro LGBTQ+ Contest. If you don't keep your oppinions for yourself, you can not win this competition. For ex. Laura Bretan didn't win the National Selection in my country, in 2019, because - a few months before the National Selection - she declared to be pro-"traditional family", in a campain against the legalization of marriage btw. people of same sex/gender. She didn't say anything specifically against LGBTQ+community. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWWVe4euh7mZmqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHPUeHesob2rZq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKTKdqSgZd9lbJY Laura Bretan's performance on Final (National Selection,2019) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmKxgaBubc6Zorc Ester Peony's performance on Final (National Selection,2019) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ3SgpmhlL-IhdU Laura Bretan on AGT, 2016: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWSwn5KNl6djo9E An ex-contestant on our National Selection (in 2014), Teddy-k, criticizing our National Selection from 2019. You will have fun with her and a different perspective of what is a National Selection! 🧐 The videoclip has English subtitle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGnYqZ-AfLGLl9E 5. The voting system. It changed from year to year, in every country - but according to EBU's rules. In Romania we had, almost all the years, the voting system splitted up 50-50 btw. national jury and public - except 2018 when 100% public votes mattered (only public votes, no jury votes) in the Final of our National Selection and, in 2019, when public votes mattered only 15% in the Final (the National Selection has two Semifinals and a Final). 6. The National Selection or Internal Selection. In Romania, 2020 was the first year without a National Selection. Great Britain chose "Internal Selection", in 2019, if I am not wrong, and Israel, in 2018, and France, this year. Our national broadcaster (TVR) also has gone on this way, this year. TVR chose a Label Records (Global Records), who internally selected (with the help of a jury) the singer (Roxen). There were three artists in competition - Roxen was chosen. Global Records released 5 songs for Roxen and there was a National Selection, live broadcasted, for picking up a song. The decision belonged to the public (it was televoting). EBU = European Broadcasters Union (which includes all the National Broadcasters which are members and pay taxes for getting the rights of broadcasting: Eurosport, Eurovision etc.). Any country that is a member of EBU and pays annual taxes and pays a participation fee, is able to take part to Eurovision. That's the case of Australia, Israel. For ex. Romania paid 120.000 Euros as fee participation in 2016, but had remaining debts of millions of Euros (for about two years) for the rights of broadcasting Eurosport and other TV programmes. So, that year, Romania couldn't take part to Eurovision. Those debts to Eurovision should have been paid by our National Broadcaster (TVR), which was about to going bankrupt. A National Broadcaster in every country lives from subsidies, advertisings... Its annual buget is approved by Parliament and given by the Ministery of Finance (Government). And the needs of our TVR excedeed the annual approuved buget (TVR' revenues didn't cover its costs, in the last years). Sorry for bothering you with so many details! Maybe they helped you better understand what is Eurovision.🙏💖

Eurovision has lost the magic it once had. Televoting has ruined the competition with countries just voting for friends and even the juries are now so biased. Very few controls and lots of corruption. The winners are also becoming more ridiculous and the songs just generally more throw away. They do not age well just a few years later. However, I can still listen to winners and songa from 80s, 90s and 00's. Netta winning was a particular low point. Many people felt that a woman impersonating a chicken winning eurovision was the death of the contest. It is more popular than ever must just seems to have become a gay contest and all the old charm that made it special seems to have gone. Songs just seem to be replicating already successful chart hits and the originality and range of songs seem to be increasingly aimed at just the youngest demographic. Songs that people in their 50s, 60s would like just don't get votes. It's become a biased competition for young, gay voters. Essentially.
