By humbling yourself know God see Jesus life in the bible be filled with the Holy Spirit and walk in Jesus "ways" not just His actions. Man self effort always fall short of God and His ways. Man's "goodess within their hearts and ways" Is a lesser good and thus is evil compared to God and His goodness to save man from sin and make them like Himself. My son taught me to be a humanist when he was seven years old. He got us both kicked out of Baptist church Sunday school because he presented such compelling arguments about how Noah and the flood never happened. It couldn't have happened, and it was utter nonsense to believe a word of it. He convinced almost all the other kids in the class that it is a fable, and I refused to tell him he was wrong (he wasn't!). Once I took blind faith out of the equation, I saw no reason to waste another minute at church (we were no longer welcome anyhow). I actually read the bible more now, but it's to educate myself on what cruel and senseless lies most people choose to believe.

Wait. If humanism says that people are free to believe what they want, then it shouldn't really have a problem with any religion at all. Because for religious people, it is their framework of life. All the time God asks humans to do what he can't-- be humble, forgive, repent, love the list goes on and on. I mean it's not hard for us to love our children, but he can't even love his one. To not use your head astounds me.

Humanism is the philosophy and life stance and human interests, human values and human dignity should rule, that is it, nothing else attached. Karl Marx said communism is humanism(from his "Economic and Philosophic Manuscript of 1844"), which predates any "humanist manifesto" filled with sugar words. Stalin and Pol Pot were communists, so they were humanist too! Simple syllogism.

You are right, not all people who declare to be humanists are perfect with truthful agendas, but nor are all Religious people and not all Christians. Many Prophets, Pastors, Preachers and churches are worse than the names you quoted above. They rush wealth and fame and are like parasites bleeding desperate people.

@@elimahfood3364 " Catholic priest pays a ton" Do not know the inner workings of the Catholics, can thus not comment on Catholics. I did not say all, I wrote many. Sure there are people who are driven by a very strong indoctrinated superstition and they might act and behave differently.

The philosophy or life stance of humanism embraces human reason, ethics, social justice, and philosophical naturalism while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience, and superstition as the bases of morality and decision making.Nov 26, 2017

People have different ideas of morality,so which one is the correct one?You can make it easy by saying your religion knows best but there are so many religions that it’s impossible to know for sure that we picked the right one. God is used to give the position authority but what if it’s wrong?Then teh wrong position will be protected by gods and extremely hard to question.We don’t what that! If we each speak from our humble human perspective we won’t have the authority or protection of god and will be actually able to discuss what’s best based on our worldview.

Humanist... "we all have the capacity to do good"... The truth is we ALL can't live one day without doing bad. Except for one man that walked this planet aprox 2k years ago. Jesus Is King!

What about all the gods who walked before him. Egyptians, Roman's, Buddha and the 100,000 years before that or so.. Seems like it's just another way to control populations with fear.

Well, Paul Tobin gives a quite comprehensive and specific definition of the term "Humanism", here. Unfortunately, this is exactly what makes his definition wrong: He just gives us a definition of his very personal branch of humanism, trying to kidnapp the term. Here comes the correct definition for all those having been confused by him: "Humanism is the sum of all worldviews/philosophical branches, that have the human in focus". It is actually that easy! And there is quite a lot subsets of humanism out there: Marxism, Socialism e.g. to name just the most prominent. Btw, when the word "humane" is used as somethig of virtue or higher value without even given the slightest clue why that would be, then it is just so: There isnt any explanation for this! That is the achilles heel of all forms of Humanism: Its like a religion, just having the god subtracted from the equation, but the equation still doesnt add up. One still is forced to believe in a groundless premise, only that this time around the premise is not: "Because of god ... you have to obey our rules", it is: "Because of beeing a human ... you have to obey our rules".

Not to be rude, but this seems more like ideology than religion. Just... common sense. Humans be kind, work hard, help those in need. I completely agree with what he's saying, but I don't understand how it's a religion?

@robschebel72007 жыл бұрын
In the video, Mr. Tobin explains that humanism is a "philosophy and a lifestance." He doesn't say that it's a religion. Of course, the difference between a philosophy and a religion is complex, but in simplified terms, we might say that a religion usually involves the worship of a god or gods and involves faith. A philosophy does not usually involve the worship of dieties and usually holds reason to be a better guide to truth than faith. But, again, this is speaking very generally. My sense is that, while religious humanism has existed in the past, most modern day humanists would say that humanism is not a religion.

Secular and humanists have spent long enough apologizing for being who they are and explaining away their views. It is time to go on the Offensive against ideologies (or perhaps, pathologies) like Christianity and Accuse them of being responsible for eugenics, sterilization, birth control, abortion (as Thomas Malthus an Anglican Minister founded the idea of Population Control), homosexuality (grew out of Western Christendom, not atheism or minor peace religions like Judaism & Jainism), that the religious right is to blame for "moral relativism," "situation ethics," and the loss of "absolute truth" as Christians apply 1 standard to themselves "We are under grace," and a double standard to others "they are under law" while Secularists/humanists are the ones who believe in Truth/Intellectual Honesty & Universal ethics of right and wrong that applies equally to everyone. Evolution was developed by Darwin (who came from a conservative Christian family & also led to in part to Nazism). Conservative Christians in the Midwest/Southern U.S. are the ones with the highest divorce rates, more domestic abuse, higher crime rates, lower educational outcomes, etc and thus they are to blame for the breakdown of the traditional family and American culture, not "coastal liberals."The more Christian a segment of society is like African-Americans or Latinos, the higher their crimes rates, lower their productivity, etc. While the less religious Asians & Jews have the lowest crime rates and highest achievement rates. Countries with greater saturation of Christianity like Latin America & China are more corrupt, crime-infested, and so on... Less religious countries like Switzerland, Holland, Japan, etc rank better on health, education, crime, etc. It seems that Israel is the only religious country that does well because of its Jewish religion.
