In Brazil we call this "rapadura". It is delicious and sometimes mixed with peanuts to make a bar called "pé de moleque" ("boy's foot" in loose translation). Very sugary indeed

India did not suffer from so much diabetes as today till they ate jaggery and did not switch to refined sugar. But it is still high in sugar and therefore I avid it on daily basis. But if making a sweet once in a while then I prefer jaggery over refined sugar. But what I find strange is that same amount of jaggery never gives same level of sweetness as refined sugar. Probably because of being mixed with all mineral and vitamins.
@rarevisionog11 ай бұрын
I don't think its because refined sugar taken over jaggery. I think it's more to do with more access to sugar than before. I believe sugar/honey and many other types of food were banned for lower classes around the world for a long time. This is why before diabetes and tooth decay used to be common among the rich. Now its more spread throughout all classes

What about date syrup or just dates? Would that be a healthier option than this?

Following a meal if i feel the need for dessert , I eat a small teaspoon of jaggery. This satisfy my craving and that’s that until the next time. Good for me the next time is few and far between. I seriously went off sugar when I ate part of a chocolate bar , too sweet felt really il. 🤢.

Thank you. Could you please make a video about olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil? I’m so confused, since I’ve heard so many (particularly vegan) doctors and other health experts that one should CUT OUT ALL OILS of one’s diet, INCLUDING OLIVE OIL! I used to consume it regularly, though never more than three tablespoons per day, mostly 1-1,5 tablespoons, and also not on a daily basis, rather 3-5 times per week. So now, I’m so afraid of consuming it. Could you please make a video about the effects olive oil has on health? Thank you!

Olive oil is healthy, especially extra virgin. As I understand, it is far healthier than seed or vegetable oils.
@eeaotly2 жыл бұрын
Check on the Blue Zones. Olive oil is present there a lot. So, relax, you can eat it. Those vegan doctors will not live long if they apply what they preach.

olive oil is faked a lot, or they cut it with sunflower oil to increase profits. I tried cold pressed olive oil from a small supplier and it was spicy and fruity--completely different than anything i bought from a chain store, it will also go rancid pretty quickly so you have to use it quick or refrigerate it. Real olive oil should be fine for you, however too much seed oil can affect some peoples health negatively. Hope that helps!

Dr You have conveniently left out the chemical content of Jaggery vs. Table Sugar. Hydros alone is used in Jaggery while tons of Chemicals are used in the process of making Sugar.

The key to consuming Jaggery or refined sugar is to use very little of it in your food or drink. The body needs sugar or carbohydrates for energy. So consuming sugar is a human need. So the question is not whether Jaggery is similar to white sugar with slightly lower GI but how little is used for sweetness. It is plain commonsense.
