Stoicism has a unique way of grounding us and providing clarity in the chaos. It’s wonderful that it has brought such positive changes to your life, fostering both peace and success. Keep holding onto those principles; your journey is a powerful testament to the strength and tranquility that Stoicism can offer.

It's amazing to hear how Stoicism has had such a positive impact on your life! It’s true that the philosophy helps us build resilience and focus on what we can control. Have you found any specific Stoic practices that you rely on daily to maintain that sense of calm and success? How do you stay grounded when faced with challenges that seem out of your control?
@LionStoic9 ай бұрын
After graduating, I faced a huge fear of unemployment, letting it cast a shadow over my achievements. Discovering Stoicism changed my outlook. I learned to flow with life’s currents, embracing challenges as part of my journey. This philosophy didn’t just help me navigate the job market with more peace; it transformed how I view life’s ups and downs. Now, I see each challenge not as a setback but as an opportunity to grow. Stoicism taught me the power of perspective and the strength we gain from facing our fears head-on.

Its inspiring to hear how Stoicism helped shift your perspective on challenges. The way you now embrace each hurdle as an opportunity for growth is a powerful mindset. How do you stay motivated during times when things feel especially difficult? Does Stoicism help you stay grounded during those moments?
@TheStoicBeacon-TGG20 күн бұрын
It’s inspiring to hear how Stoicism helped shift your perspective on fear and challenges. Embracing life's currents with such calmness is a powerful approach, especially when faced with uncertainties like unemployment. The idea of viewing challenges as opportunities rather than setbacks is something that can truly change how we experience life. Do you think this mindset shift would have been as effective if you hadn’t faced those fears head-on? Could it be that facing adversity is actually a necessary part of discovering the strength Stoicism talks about?

I love the shakespear quote, "there is neither good nor evil- thoughts, actions, and deeds create reality". It has a timeless sense of "manifesting & transcending your vision into reality."

It's such a powerful reminder, isn't it? That quote beautifully captures the essence of how our perceptions shape our reality. By taking control of our thoughts and actions, we indeed have the power to manifest our vision and transcend beyond the immediate circumstances. Shakespeare’s words, much like the teachings of Stoicism, encourage us to look within and realize our potential to create meaningful change in our lives. It’s all about embracing that power to craft our own narrative.

Thank you Ryan, great job and awesome work. You have gotten me on the path of reading and Stoicism. Stoicism is the 12 steps of recovery but on steroids. And that is what I needed. I am currently reading Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield and am loving every minute of us. It puts into perspective just how easy our lives are, and how we have no excuse but to pursue Arete/Excellence/Virtue. I am just a blue collar local class A delivery driver for a major beverage company but practice excellence and virtue day in and day out. It is certainly working for me and enhancing my life experience. I have read Discipline is Destiny, Courage is Calling and Stillness is the Key. I just ordered Lives of the Stoics today and Mastery by Greene. Keep up the awesome work Ryan, you are a great teacher/mentor. -Grant in San Diego

I see the need for journaling and handwrite, it really clears your mind. But I have a twist to it: once evaluated, analyzed etc. I ditch the page of the day. The following morning I will handwrite a new day, on a clean state. No need to keep the notes. This mentally removes clutter for me, my dailly agenda is only one page. To allocate activities in the future, I put them on Google calendar for months ahead, and computer notes app for week ahead, that can be consulted when required. But this way, it helps me really focusing on the day.

Your breakdown of Marcus Aurelius’ meditations was brilliant! Could you create a video exploring how his principles apply to career decisions?
@TheStoicBeacon-TGG20 күн бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! It’s interesting to think about how Marcus Aurelius’ principles can guide career decisions. His emphasis on focusing on what we can control and accepting what we cannot is especially relevant in the workplace. When facing career decisions, it can be helpful to reflect on whether the outcome is something within our control or if it's more about how we respond to external circumstances. What do you think is the most important Stoic principle when it comes to making decisions about our professional lives?

I just used zooming out recently. I'm not happy with my life's path, and feeling overwhelmed by course correcting. I had the thought, what if I died and just came back? This is my avatar to start with, what will I do? I zoomed out to look at myself like a 3rd person and things became much clearer and less emotionally charged.

My therapist keyed me into this page, and I'm liking some of it, but other things are a bit harder to take. I've always been impressed by those who are unruffled by life's speed bumps and wished I could be more like that, but never could be for long when I tried. The one thing that sticks out to me from this is a question I imagine a lot of folks looking into stoicism face, which is if from the 10,000 foot view, from the 10,000,000 foot view, from the 10 light year view, nothing is as significant as it seems, then how can anything have any significance at all? My problems don't matter, my successes don't matter, my actions don't matter, so why do anything? How can you find the motivation to act if there is no impact or import of those actions?

He was born with such a big silver spoon in his mouth that he never had to achieve anything in life but he tried to practice being a human . Don't you think people who have what they want always give the advice that none of that matters? whereas people who have to work 100 hour weeks don't feel like giving righteous lectures. Something to think about. Imagine a leader telling the poor - we're both gonna die so I am not gonna help, you can either work as a slave for me or leave
