Great overview of GPU Overclocking Software. I use MSI and ASUS but have never tried EVGA Precision X1 (I like the interface but would miss the CPU Stats in the OSD).

a while back you could get a skin for msi afterburner, i dont remember where or how i think i was a skin to imitate evga prec, but that skin, and only that skin had boost clock

Does it matter what GPU that you use these with? I have afterburner on my 4090 laptop, with it being the most popular program, but also my laptop is MSI. My desktop is all ROG, except CPU/RAM. Would there be any additional benefits using GT3 over Afterburner, since the GPU is the Strix OC 4090? I know GT3 is best used with the Matrix 4090, with it having additinal options specific to that GPU. I don't think my Strix has any non standars GPU features built in, though. Just wondering GT3 allow more presice control or stability since its on brand? I'd normally use Afterburner, but didn't know if having the Strix OC GPU would make any reason to use GT3 over Afterburner. Its already in my ROG software suite, but I don't know if it recommended because it does anything different/special, or just bevause its their software. I came with my motherboard on a cool little ROG flash drive with some drivers and documetation.

I’m not sure on that one! The only thing I can think of is if the BIOS of the Strix has specific limitations that only GT3 is able to interface with. I unfortunately don’t have a card to test but I don’t think it is limited with afterburner!

@@CAL1MBO thats not the case at least for asus, if you have any asus card gpu tweak offers better overclocking stability, my asus 4070 super couldn't hit +250mhz on the clock and +2000mhz on the memory with afterburner or it would just randomly freeze yet with gpu tweak 3 i can hit that overclock really stable at only 1V
@chippyyyy

it can, ususally asus cards get more stable overclocks with gpu tweak and same goes for evga cars with precision x1

also try changing skins for clarity, i found msi's windows 11 dark skin to be the clearest if u still use it that is

Can u use both evga and afterburner in conjunction? Like use one for boost lock and overclocking and one for osd?
@techtoniksystems

You can! You can definitely overclock and boost lock in Precision X1 while still having the Riva Statistics Tuner Overlay, I typically just use Afterburner but if I need the boost lock for some reason I will just pop open X1 and lock it

@hupe5836 I will have to check this out! I was not aware of this shortcut, but if that works in my version as well, that makes afterburner that much better. Great callout!

Can the OSD on Asus or EVGA be put in a secondary monitor? Upgraded to an Oled but want to avoid keeping static images for too long such as the OSD. I know on MSI it can't be done as it is the one I`ve been using for a while now.
@techtoniksystems

You know, I am not sure on that! I’ve been running an OLED for almost a year now and I just run pixel cleaning regularly on it and I’ve left the monitor on for sometimes hours at a time (sometimes I pause to do something and forget about it 😂). Absolutely no issues with burn in or anything like that!

My GPU is water cooled with a front and back block in a system that has four total radiators so I have a lot of thermal capacity to handle excess heat! are you running water cooling or air cooling?

@ what is your GPU temp normally running under high loads?
@ItSmeSanThu

At idle my temp is around 45-50, on load it hits 75°c . I am using rtx 3060v2 oc 12gb
@techtoniksystems
@techtoniksystems Ай бұрын
@ For an air cooled GPU 70-80c under heavy load is actually a pretty normal temperature! If you wanted to try to bring some temps down a bit you could always clean your case and GPU from dust and make sure the fan curves are maxed out when under load. Otherwise the one other thing you could do is try undervolting the GPU and reducing the overclock that’s on it to bring temps down a bit, but you’d lose some performance unfortunately. Overall I wouldn’t be concerned about that 75c temp!

in my opinion and from what ive seen the best overall is msi afterburner but if you have an evga card use precision x1 and if you have any asus branded card use gpu tweak 3, i get way higher and more stable overclocks on my asus 4070 super with gpu tweak 3 than any of the other, my current oc would randomly crash and freeze if it was applied by afterburner but somehow its rock solid with gpu tweak 3 even after undervolting it a bit
@techtoniksystems

@@techtoniksystems it all has to do with how the programs are made to work with their own cards, precision x1 reads a bunch of sensors in evga cards that no other program can, also jayztwocents did a video on overclocking a 4090 and he had the same thing happen, gpu tweak was more stable with higher overclocks compared to afterburner just giving him freezes and crashes

my cpu and gpu sits at 70-80C is that normal?
@techtoniksystems
@techtoniksystems 8 ай бұрын
Is this under load or at idle? 70-80 for a GPU is definitely on the higher side but not unheard of especially if you are air cooling the system and or overclocking! I’m don’t know what GPU you have but GPUs have thermal throttling built in so the worst you would see is a decrease in performance. 70-80C for a CPU under load is great temp! Most modern CPUs thermal throttle around 100C so you have plenty of headroom there. If you are seeing these temps while it is idling, that is very high and definitely not normal.
