I am an INTP and this video is GOLD especially on being a generalist. I am studying to be a web developer and I will continue to make study and get good but this video opened up the opportunities of other things in tech I didn't know. Software development is a fine job for INTPs and it is much better than working at a restaurant, but of course, I want to keep learning and growing and these tech jobs I will try to do too and get good at everything! Thanks so much! This is the best channel on youtube for MBTI advice and CS Joseph may get hate, but I think should keep going because these are amazing and well done :) screw haters

INTP with 57 years experience ... First part of the video was spot on, be a generalist, walk your own line, call your own shots because you have the knowledge and skills. Im a toolmaker, old trade/craft, beautiful metamorphosis of engineering , art, and craft, work that uses your mind and your hands. Over my life I have learned Linux, multiple engineering programs, electrical and plc systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, servo and motion systems in addition to the skills to make precise parts from any material.. Second half, mostly bs. There is more to a career then IT, and im not suggesting anyone set foot in a machine shop unless you really like it, the world is where it is because of the trades. Skilled tradesmen use every bit of their intellect as any IT guy. Want a good career? Hone your troubleshooting skills on CNC equipment , robotics and plc systems, be a hired gun with the answers. Never stop learning ....and take shit from no one.

I always knew I wanted to be a scientist, I turned one becoming one, even got a PhD. What has always helped me make difficult choices when there are too many options to pick from is the following. I do not chose what makes me passionate, almost nothing makes me feel passionate, I rule out what I dislike and end up choosing by discarding the other options. Eventually I find that what I chose is the most fullfilling. If I wait to feel passionate about something I end up choosing nothing. If you don't choose something, the choice then is taken away from you one way or another.

Ever since I moved jobs, I'd been feeling unsatisfied. In the previous job, I worked in contracts, dealt with Finance, helped with Sales, and assisted with software management (the company had just gotten a new CMS, and I got hired because I claimed to have some tech experience). I was basically connected to everyone and everything, and I could fast-track things, fix things, and learn so much. But it was a contract position, and I didn't get things like Insurance. In this new job, I am a specialist. I do one thing, which is mostly writing legal documents... which is important, yes. But I feel like my potential isn't being used fully; I get bored, I get lazy (I've actually gotten lazy), and I feel as if I'm regressing. But I get full benefits. 401K, insurance, IRA... Thanks for this. I am now seeing that Ne parent = Just learn EVERYTHING function. :) I'm just going to have to get more jobs on the side.

just info for others: if it’s a company, just find the most generalist position, one that allows you freedom to wander, explore, do your own thang. I've found there's value in Big Data in specializing outside of CS. I’m of the opinion that certifications are good to get your foot in the door when starting out but experience trumps all. I find people that only seek out certifications in life often have a shallow understanding of the subjects. Actually applying knowledge practically is what most employers want. This can be something an INTP can struggle with, living in the theoretical. Step outside of your comfort zone and put that book knowledge to the test. Start a hobby (build a server, etc). and then you will have more practical knowledge to back up that certification and can speak from a position of real understanding.

Solid advise Chase. However I'd just like to caveat this advise with an assumption that you have interest in learning all these technologies. If you don't have the slightest inclination to learn them, you will suffer tremendously because being in IT is CONSTANT LEARNING and upskilling. It DOES NOT END! You will always be learning new shit every single day. Shinier tech stacks come in as frequent as iPhone models get released. However, if that sounds like fun to you then go out there and crush it!

5 questions 1) Why do NTPs in terms of being a systematic type watch anime? Is being abstract and Ne having enough of change in the storyline and quirky animation plus some scales and few insights enough to keep them interested? recently, I've put my only ENTP friend into a situation, where he has been socially engineered, since there has been an increase of 'weebs' in our class and of course, he has noticed the trend and now is lowkey sensing the pressure of "if I don't adapt, the social circles won't accept me anymore". Before he took the stance of disliking anime (of course, hasn't watched any). 2) Is an another INFJ classmate tapping into a super ego once entering a state of being 'stoned' from marijuana a bad indication of some kind? Cuz in myself as a supposed INFJ, I tap into my ESTP subconscious ALL the time when high or drunk, tho I don't consume neither of those often but at a certain time, it used to be more for a while. 3) How to prevent philosopher types from engaging in hysteria? 4) Would or could the conjunction of the currently know Jungian analytical psychology and a deeper dive into the brain's structure, consisting out of a more so qualitative insight of what's actually happening in our minds and why is it and why it has been happening and how to change it and be further capable of post-changing our consciousness to a degree more so potentially damage humanity instead of making it greater? 5) How to get my 6'5 INTP cousin's Ni critic get some sense of responsibility, if he is trapped in an Si user environment(family) and has no space nor support for engaging in abstract topics? If you are looking at programming focus on GUI interfaces. It doesn't matter how great your program (or your business's program) is, if the GUI sucks, your program will be a commercial failure. Scripting is also much more important now, Powershell mastery will allow you to do the work of 20 people by just executing the scripts you made while barely breaking a sweat. All microsoft products now use it on the backend and now linux and other programming interfaces are being integrated into powershell.

Pick a general area, specialize in it and do projects and document alot about your experiences in a journal or keep the habit of practicing the skill or do both. Then pick the next general area an specialize again while keeping the first skill it etc. If you become for instance really good at a martial art, you can keep the skill by practising it at minimal effort. In Programming this really easy because you keep the programs etc. do something like this for whatever area you choose.

Just a little push back, specialists in small desirable niches do VERY well. As the specialty becomes more common, then it sucks

The last time I commented was on "CS Joseph Contradicting Himself? | Jungian Sexuality". What i said did not make enough sense. I'll finish my thoughts, when in your case, the intj, your nemesis. The intj can cause pain in your esfp personality i would say. This pain though is optional. The entp ego can be abandonned, in favor of the isfj. For me I started with focusing on ti to embrace the isfj. I let go of my depression, and also looked back on my childhood.

is beeing a generalist good advice for all Si-Ne users ?
@CSJoseph3 жыл бұрын
In the sense that Si users tend to hold onto things without having to need that constant practice, yes, but that's very general and I'd dive deeper before making it a blanket career recommendation.

What are your thoughts about machine and deep learning as a career path for an INTP?
@qasimimtiaz9942 жыл бұрын
Yeah, is good. I think INTPs probably be more interested in multi-agents systems.

Generally good advice except lol Azure. Nobody uses that crap unless the work for a M$ shop. If you want to work in infrastructure you best be solid with AWS, GCP, Linux administration, Terraform, Docker, K8s, bash, Python, Go and have a solid understanding of distributed/cloud computing/networking/ITSec.

I've always been a generalist programmer. I know multiple languages. I was an IC, a consultant, an architect, a devops, an agile coach and currently I'm a CTO. So I can confirm: be a generalist. Watch out: have a very strong area. Mine is devops and software architecture. PS: work a lot. Focus. Get things done. Read code, a lot. Participate in open-source. Help others. Explain a lot what you know, it helps settle the knowledge so deep, that it becomes part of you. PPS: I don't agree with some of your advice, like not become a software developer or what you say about the cloud. As a generalist, learn to make architectures which are NOT locked into any specific cloud providers. PPS: the best is to write a software, make its architecture, AND the environment in which it runs (devops). THIS makes you God.
