I like that when major leaguers go to the minors for rehab they buy food for the whole team. That’s a cool thing to do
@suburbanhobbyist27523 жыл бұрын
That is really cool of them but I wonder where they draw the line. Like Bellinger just spent more than 60 days down there I think. Even with his money he couldn't have been buying takeout from the local steak house 30 to 40 times or whatever. I mean, he could have, but geez that is a lot to ask. That would add up to a couple hundred thousand pretty quick.
@ricky536911 күн бұрын
That should never happen. They need to raise the minimum salaries of minor leaguers and the money they spend on them. If it becomes a league rule, then no one has to worry about having a disadvantage by paying their minor leaguers more. Every team will be on an even playing field.
@juiceboxmania155811 күн бұрын
@@ricky5369 I agree, but minor leaguers will still be making less than the major leaguers in that case. Major leaguers buying them food would still be a cool move

I worked as field and tunnel security for the Rangers for a season. I became good friends with the cooks, one of whom was hired from working as a cook in Vegas at a hotel/casino. Sometimes, if the cooks were unsure of something or had extra, I would get some of their stuff, or be the guinea pig when I was sitting in the back of the clubhouse in the family lounge. I can honestly say that it was some great eats. They had a grill near the entrance to the garage that they would take out into the driveway and start grilling stuff like ribs, burgers, corn, hot dogs (Nolan Ryan beef, of course), and all sorts of stuff. Some of the best food I've had aside from travelling the world. By the way, love your channel, thanks for doing this.

I am in charge of the post game game spread for the St. Paul Saints (American Association). They get Bagels w/ cream cheese and sandwiches ( peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese,)before the game. After they game i give them some type of salad, desert, and four hot main dishes, usually two vegetables (i.e. Corn, beans, stir fry, potatoes) and two meats (Steak, pulled pork, chicken, etc..) . They also have snacks such as chips, cereal, cookies, donuts, chips and salsa, candy bars and fruit available all the time.

What a great team to be associated with! I understand that they get huge crowds and throw some of the most innovative promotions. I heard from a friend that they wanted to get in the Guiness Book of Records for starting the latest ball game in the evening, letting the fans sleep overnight in the outfield and then having the earliest start to a game the next morning. Crazy!

Matt , more info for you. Go to McDonald's, and order french fries without salt. They invariably must make new fresh and steaming hot fries. There would be a giant box of sandwiches everyone would grab from and if you were lucky there would be extras after the game. We had a pizza place, a hot dog place and the best was this Italian place we would get lemon chicken and salad

It would be interesting to hear about the interactions between the players at different levels as you moved up through the minors. Like I bet competition to move up from eating pb&j could get intense sometimes within a clubhouse. being a high draft pick I'm sure you were expected to move up the ranks fairly quickly. was there resentment from guys who realistically probably weren't going to move up the chain or just overall drama in the clubhouse

I guess all that makes sense. Not only do the players make a bit more money at each level (at least they do from low A compared to like AAA) so they can contribute a little bit more, but the stadiums they play in sell more tickets and are more sophisticated. Some of these AA and AAA stadiums are amazing. They offer all sorts of food choices so I can see it would be a lot easier for the club to offer better and more choices to the players. Oh, and watching Trevor Bauer's blogs, the food at the LA Dodgers for the players looks flat out amazing!
@erad675 жыл бұрын
In the late 80s I worked for a A+ level team. Never saw food provided by the team given to the players. Then again, we were known as one of the worst run teams in pro baseball of any level. On the road, players got something like $6 a day extra pay for food. Most of the players would go by a supermarket and buy stuff to make sandwiches or something cheap.

This is yet another video from 'Behind the Scenes' series that I have liked right away. Yes, I have been very curious about what kind of meals do professional baseball players encounter and this video has fulfilled my wish. I was startled by the peanut-butter-and-jelly-sadwich predicament through the minors! (I understand, Matt. I am no fan of the peanut butter and jelly either! I tend to view the peanut butter and jelly as a 'last resort'; I would normally ignore it unless either I just do not have anything else available to eat.) Although, I can kind of understand the preference for the peanut and butter: A compact source of calories. There is a cliche -- 'Soldiers march on their stomachs' attributed to Napoleon. I think this also applies to professional athletes. ;)

I'm glad you are able to string together grammatically correct sentences. By definition, it is pretty much impossible to be intelligent as a pro baseball player if you are not a pitcher for the following reason: THE TIME INVOLVED for position players. Pro baseball position players must practice tons of hours on both offense and defense. Then throw in overall body training. Considering the fierce competition from Little League all the way to the majors, those that make it will have spent thousands of hours of their lives hitting a little white ball and fielding a little white ball. Fielding a ball and hitting a ball does zero for academic acumen. There are only so many hours in a day. Very, very, very rarely do you you hear about an ex MLBer retiring to a medical or law practice (maybe never?). There are simply not enough hours in a day to study, and at the same time, have time to practice enough for the MLB. I admire the stick-to-it-ivness of a guy that is willing to do this, but in a way, he is performing a bit of a lobotomy on his brain via non usage. For 1 in 100,000 baseball playing dreamers, they end up with the big payday. Feeding minor league players peanut butter sandwiches everyday says a lot about how respected they are. No other sport would dream of feeding an athlete peanut butter sandwiches. And wow, when they move up to AA, they get Pringles chips!!!

I love Peanut Butter but it makes me break out so bad, worse than just peanuts, from allergies. I get hives on my skin. I think its all the extra peanut oil in the peanut butter as oppose to the natural peanut itself. So I have not ate PB in a decade. Its not a life threatening allergy at all, its not fun having itchy patches of hives on your skin either. I even eat normal peanuts or peanut M&Ms and take some medicine and don't have trouble. Or even eat a reeses cup every now and then and don't have problems. Because its small dose. But when making a PBJ sandwich its a higher dose of PB than one Reeses. And you need enough to enjoy the sandwich lol. A bad side effect of me not eating PB aside from that rare reeses cup is that I don't like Pancakes anymore. I grew into this allergy in my teens. I had established I only liked Pancakes with peanut butter on them when I was a kid and pre teen. So when I grew into this allergy I also stopped liking pancakes. Actually I like chocolate chip pancakes but they take more effort to make and my dad didn't like to do those too often, also less healthy lol. I know what its like to not like something a lot of people like. I don't like Beer. At all. And no I don't drink but thats not why, I do like to have something like Mikes Hard or Smirnoff Ice and a tequila mix. I just can't stand the taste or any I have tried which is a lot. I don't care to drink enough to get used to it. But I don't think I ever could. I have actually never been completely drunk either just close. It just isn't something I want to do. It doesn't amuse me and I don't think its fun. But its not the reason, its the taste. Because there is alcohol I like. And I am not a lightweight really either. I can drink 3-4 Mikes Hard type drinks and not feel drunk. So thats usually where I stop. I feel it but its not what I would call being drunk in the slightest. I don't test the driving law though when I do lol, those laws/tests can say your drunk as far as BAC goes even if you don't feel it.

Gates Brown did in 1968 for the Detroit Tigers during a game. Google it, you'll laugh.
