Yes, is it good teaching because he is going through most of the scriptures that speak about tounges, which some churches that are spirit-filled like a Pentecostal tend to be more focus on Holy Spirit abilities, more time in singing to God, and less scripture, everyone should have a good balance to both the Word of God and the Spiritual Gifts that God himself gives to all believers, we just all look different and are different parts of the body. This teacher only has part of the pie, not the full understanding, and it grieves me to hear it because they(this belief system), put God in a Box and will never get to be filled like the day of Pentecost, why because faith to wait in the "Upperroom", while others will walk about and miss that experience. Most of them don't even ask for it or want, and in some circle get taught that its "of the devil" it because they would have to leave their congregations and wouldn't be accepted by them anymore, you would have to be moved to a different tribe of Christianity. Super Sad.
@SymbolofPeeace4 жыл бұрын
On the day of Pentecost they didn’t speak in tongues they spoke their language and the people heard and understood what the person next to them were saying in their native language by way of the Holy Spirit. Sonic you spoke Spanish and I spoke English and you were talking to me in Spanish I would hear it in English and understand (Acts 2:6). What Paul is referring to is, another heavenly language perhaps the first language (before God made all the other languages on the Tower of Babel just a theory) that edifies the speaker, where as prophecy edifies the Chuch/Body. Read it again with in context this time.
@SymbolofPeeace4 жыл бұрын
Speaking in tongues starts out as utterances just like any other language does. You don’t just come out of the womb speaking fluent English no. You utter what you’ve heard or what hear until you can fully say it. Tongues the heavenly language is just that a language. The Spirit tells you what to say and you say what hear the Spirit telling you to go the best of your ability, until you can speak or fluently. And most times for me I know what I’m saying. The Spirit interprets it to me. Sometimes He doesn’t depending on my environment.
@SymbolofPeeace4 жыл бұрын
Now your argument is stupid, why would I need to speak to God in Spanish or German if I already speak fluent English. Whats the purpose furthermore if I speak Spanish that means that I understand Spanish which will contradict 1Corinthians14 in it’s entirety. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT BRO, FOR YOU ALL WHO ARE EATING THIS UP, READ AND STUDY FOR YOURSELF. STOP BELIEVING OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE THE GIFT. FIND YOURS AND USE IT TO EDIFY YOURSELF AND THE BODY. PEACE ✌🏾 I’m Done!

I read a testimony, where a young man had just come home from being overseas. He was not in Russia, and did not learn to speak Russian. This young man attended a Sunday Church service. During the service he spoke out and gave an exhortation in another tongue. Another person gave the interpretation in English. After the service an older Russian lady asked the young man if he had been to Russia, and where did he learn such beautiful Russian language. The young man told the lady he never was in Russia, and he could not speak Russian because he never learned it. The old lady was touched to the heart, not only by the beautiful Russian language that she had heard, but that it was truly a sign that God was present in the Church that morning.

@@olgaburgos7780 When you started writing your comment did you truly read what the testimony is about??? Seems like you are a person either that likes to make up lies within someone's declarations or testimonies just out of uncontrolled impulse (which a tool for the enemy to use). Or simply you are speaking out of ignorance. Either way you should read again the testimony and not add or make assumptions totally contrary to what the testimony is saying clearly. I myself am against speaking gibberish which is not speaking in other tongues like what is reflected on the day of pentecost. The Bible scenario and the scenario in this testimony are the same. The apostle started speaking in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them too speak. And the people outside were listening and heard their own languages being spoken by these strangers. So clearly the testimony given here is the same because this young person was speaking in tongues (Russian)given to him by the spirit at that moment because the fact is he didn't know russian. Your comment she's coming from a hyper person typing without processing anything except what comes to your mind. I've done that as well. This testimony has the evidence of God in the matter. The lady understood in Russian(just like the outsiders st pentecost which understood what the apostles wee speaking). Meaning the Spirit gave the young man the language to speak although he himself doesn't know Russian. Yet the lady did understand and was blessed by it. Meaning tha God did exactly what the Bible indicated He does when someone is speaking in tongues: It edifies the body of Christ. So this lady was in a congregation and was edified by hearing someone speaking in her language. There is No reason for you or anyone to twist the narrative and make a statement of it possibly being gibberish, when in the testimony it clearly states facts that make it non gibberish. You got 2 different people to like your comment which is a comment full of error and even a twisting of what's being said which is a lie in itself. Whether intentional or not, you should read again the testimony which you are choosing to make a comment on because clearly you are not acknowledging the fact that it couldn't been gibberish if someone else acknowledges it's their native language. You're leading people into confusion and whether in your language or a different one , that is 100% not of God so reflect and see how the Enemy is using you to confuse others.

Why not seek God for them to know him as you do? As a fellow believer It is my deepest desire that we as the body truly learn to love one another. And respect even those with whom we strongly disagree. No matter what side of this theological argument you may be on ask yourself, "will my response be reflective of the grace and loving-kindness of the One I serve?" Finally, someone who gets it. I particularly like the way you explain it in a non judgmental way so as not to offend those who don't understand what it really was. The Bible is a very practical book and when tongues don't serve a practical purpose such as when an interpreter is needed, it only gets in the way when done in public. But you did a great job of explaining what it was and why it came to be, starting with Pentecost. On the other hand, for those that think it enhances their religious experience, as long as it is part of their private experience, I suppose it does no harm. Some need it, some don't. I love both types! We are all brothers and sisters in Christ whether we do or not.

@ZoneFighter1 Speaking in " tongues" is speaking one spiritual language. It is what Paul referred to as the " unknown tongue" that " No man knoweth" . If no man knows it then it isn't a language spoken normally on earth. It is the initial evidence that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit and the born again believers' private prayer language.
@harutikz3 жыл бұрын
@@robertnieten7259 he clearly explained it and you still reject to accept it. It is important to notice in 1 Corinthians 13:1 that Paul is trying to impress upon us that love is highly important. In order to make his point, he says that even if you speak with the tongues of men or angels, that is not as important as love. Now he is not telling us that angels have their own unique language. Paul is writing in hyperbole. Notice the word “if” in the verse is a condition of probability. He is saying if we did speak with the tongues of men and of angels. It is interesting that Paul says, “If I speak with the tongues of men.” Obviously, all humans speak in some known tongue or language. Therefore, his point is that “if” we spoke even in the tongue of an angel. Therefore, we should conclude that Paul is writing in hyperbole. The expression “tongues of angels” is hyperbole. He is exaggerating to make a point. Even if we could speak in the tongue of angels! Paul was not trying to teach us that believers can or will speak in an angelic language. To positively conclude that the tongues of angels refers to an actual language used in heaven assumes facts not substantiated anywhere in Scripture.
@robertnieten72593 жыл бұрын
@@harutikz What language would God speak to His angels and they to Him ? Certainly not an earthly language. Believers seem to ignore 1Cor.14:2 to where Paul says that "he that speaks in unknown tongue speaks to God not man". What language other than his own would man speak to God ? It wouldn't be a native earthly language. Paul also says that it a language that " No man knoweth". If it's a language no man knows then it's not a language native to this world. Lastly Paul says that he that speaks in this unknown tongue isn't doing so" in the spirit". What else could it be but a spiritual language ? Most certainly love is important but it is equally important as it pertains to individual salvation that a believer speak in a language they couldn't possibly already know that they have recieved the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for using scripture to ground your understanding of tongues as used in scripture as well as how we define it and understand it today. I really appreciate what you all are doing and have much love for you brother! I think you covered quite a few verses in regards to how tongues has been used in scriptures but do feel a few we’re not discussed. I believe when we discuss and controversial topic or any topic we should discuss it’s use in scripture in its entirety. A few verse we need to keep in mind is 1 Cor 14:1-28 “Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue. Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you. What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.” From this text we can see that Paul is telling the church that if someone speaks in tounges in a corporate setting there must be order and only be two do this at one time. There must also be a interpreter so that the church may understand what is being spoken in the spirit and can be built up otherwise it’s better for the person to keep quiet. We see in 1 Cor 14:4 that tonges without a translator builds up one’s self. “The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.” 1 Corinthians 14:4 ESV This shows us that there is a angelic prayer language between us and God. I have been bless with the gift of speaking in tongues and can attest to the way it builds me up and I have seen it done correctly in a corporate church setting with one person speaking in tongues and there be one interpreter and the message came out as something that would edify and build up the church who was hearing the interpretation. Oh yeah I also am a member of a Baptist Church. I pray this helps some of you understand all aspects of tongues! Love you!

Rene Sam Koshy You said "@cooljc26 I think you're attesting to what I did say in a different manner there bro. Holy Spirit is who provides the utterances and connects us to God. All that the comment meant was to serve as a response to how nonsensical "it sounds to other people who hear it". I never claim that it is us who string together nonsensical syllables to form a language (which might be the case with heretics and apostasies nowadays), for I too believe that is not from the Holy Spirit. This is the reason why Apostle Paul exhorts the Church that the speaking in tongues is for the edification of self and not of the congregation. He also states that praises God for he speaks in tongues more than them. I hope therefore that you understood the context of this comment if I had confused you in the previous. God Bless. My comment *Rene Sam Koshy.....No I am not saying what you are saying in a different manner.* *True... you never claimed that it is us(you all) who string together nonsensical syllables to form a language ... but that's exactly what I am telling you .... you/they are doing. You all are stringing together nonsensical syllables trying to form a language which is NOT a language, it's just gibberish nonsense. That is not speaking in tongues and neither is that of God.* *This is what I mean.... some people think speaking in tongues is something (they) can do or (they) are supposed to do whenever they want too, which some call their prayer language, where they string up a bunch of nonsensical syllables trying to form a language, but that is NOT speaking in tongues at all and neither is that of God.* *The Holy Spirit is not giving the utterance when you do it yourself. When you do it yourself that is just you doing it and again that is not speaking in tongues.*

I was raised by a Grandma & Aunt who were the most devout Christians I have ever known. My Grandma would pray throughout the day, but in the evenings at dusk I can remember her speaking in tongues. My aunt and her little boys would speak in tongues. Absolutely beautiful. It's DEFINITELY it's own language. If you have heard it enough you can hear random people at church speaking in the EXACT same language. Louisiana & Texas, different churches and different faiths speaking the same dialect. I’m glad to see the subject being addressed. My question is this: if tongues are always a language that can be understood by men, then why is the “gift of interpretation” paired with the “gift of tongues?” In the answer to that, I believe you’re going to encounter the reason why speaking in tongues as initial evidence and speaking with the gift of tongues are distinct.
@rodriguezfamily8883 жыл бұрын
Because the person with the gift of interpretation will be able to explain the meaning to the whole congregation, thus edifying the entire church, and not only the hearer (person who understands). Remember, gifts were given and manifested for the edification of the church, not only for an individual alone. 1 Corinthians 14:12, and 1 Corinthians 12:7

@rodriguezfamily8883 жыл бұрын
@@scottandrewstudio4000 thank you for bringing that up. You have to read in context what’s going on in Acts 2/10 and in the Corinthian church. In Acts 2, it says “they Each understood in their own native language”. Why would there need to be an interpreter. I apologize if I didn’t clarify in my original response...I was specifically talking about tongues being spoken during a Church service. Obviously, if there are only two people (1 believer with the gift of a tongue, and the other is an unbeliever) then an interpreter wouldn’t be needed. So we just need to apply some logic as well when we read the text. Not saying that you don’t...just saying in general. So yeah, that’s the difference. One important thing that I’ve learned over the years of Bible study is that you never want to bash two verses against each other. By doing so, you reject the word of God one way or another. All scripture is to be read with complimentary aspects. So thank you for bringing Acts 2 and 10 up. Also, wanted to note that tongues was also a gift to be used for an unbeliever (1st Corinthians 14:22). In which the Jews in Acts 2 were. Regarding Acts 10 - Let me just copy and paste the scripture “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Acts 10:44-46 NKJV Notice at the end, for they heard them speak in tongues and magnify God. If the Jews heard the tongues and that the gentiles were magnifying God... that means that they understood the language (tongue) that was being spoken by the Gentiles. Otherwise, how would they know if they were magnifying God?

Sad to see that instead of doing what the bible says and pursuing the gifts, people try to explain the gift away because they never were received it. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:18 that he spoke in tongues them all of them. He tells them that speaking in tongues in the church without interpretation would be no Bueno, but it does not change the fact that he spoke more than anyone else in tongues. The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. 1 Corinthians 14:4. When he talks about 1 Corinthians 14, he says, "That is possible... but I am not convinced..." then goes straight to another passage... One has to do much juggling to try to disprove that. I guess it is in vain I am writing this here, but just in case you did not click on this video to find another reason why you don't speak in tongues and to justify that your thought that people who utter words that no one understands are just babbling or miss informed, deceived or crazy, this next part is for you. Don't be afraid to keep seeking. Matthew 7:7 I was baptized in the Holy Spirit after I had an Honest prayer and asked God to change my life. My prayer was, literally, "God, I only go to church because my parents make me, I am 17 years old now, and I won't go back to church unless you change my life". I was tired of "going" to church, but I was not changed. Maybe this is what's missing for you? Ask God to change your life. He is more interested in this than yourself. My wife got the gift of tongues by herself in her room while studying for a math test. I have witnessed so many people's lives and also testimonies and stories that no theologian or anyone would be able to explain otherwise.

Over the years I have heard a fairly common story from a number of missionaries - they have spoken of taking Christ to unchurched 3rd world countries and they saw some miraculous signs, including tongues. Then once they established local cell churches and were able to obtain bibles in the local languages, they said that the supernatural stuff (tongues) pretty much ceased. In hindsight they figured that God did not have to rely on that because they had the written Word. It seems to me that God will use any means necessary to give people a chance to hear the message of salvation thru Jesus Christ."

There is no such thing as a "gift" of the Holy Spirit. Translators insert that word into a translation, all in an effort to explain what are pneumatikos and the charisms. The "pneumatikos" (1 Cor 12:1) are not "gifts;" rather they are "spirituals" which are also referred to as "charisma" (1Cor 12:4) or "graces," "endowments," or "miraculous faculties." They are "manifestations" (1 Cor 12:7) of the Holy Spirit, as He wills (1 Cor 12:11), which are also synonymously referred to as "ministries" (1 Cor 12:5) and "workings" (1 Cor 12:6). The problem is that people call them "gifts," which is foreign to the Text. Obviously anything a person receives from God is a blessing or a gift, and it's certainly not earned. So to call the charismata "gifts" is simply an unnecessary redundancy, which gets misunderstood by modern English-speakers.

Then what does it mean "to pray in the Spirit" according to Ephesians 6:18? How does one pray in the Spirit? Paul says he prays in the Spirit AND with understanding. This is praying in tongues AND praying with his own words, The Spirit can pray though you for things you aren't aware of or things that are about to happen around you to prepare you ahead of time. 1 Corinthians 14:14- "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. When you are alone praying in the Spirit, you don't always know what is being said. However, you may from time to time catch words that you do know and have an idea about what is being said. This does not need to be interpreted, it is done though faith. By praying in the Spirit it strengthens your own spirit and allows it to freely spend time connecting with the Spirit of God and your father. Tongues have different forms according to the bible. 1. It is usually the first sign of the Spirit Baptism, and becomes a way for your to pray with. 2. The GIFT of tongues which is different. The prayer language you can use anytime you want. The GIFT is at the Spirit's choosing and for HIS purpose. Either the person being spoken to understands the language OR the Spirit will interperit the message for others to understand. This is why it is to be limited IF no interpretation is present. This is not true of praying in the Spirit. 3. You can sing in tongues/the Spirit, Paul mentions all three in his letters.

Often it comes to me while laying on hands to pray for the sick, they receive healing often times. Not because of my utterances but rather because of their faith in God for healing. I have never in 55 years been told I was speaking a particular dialec. I suppose if the circumstances were right it would happen. Very good explanation on the tongues issue pastor. God bless you all.

Great message! A very good explanation of this concept. I grew up in assembly/ church of God settings and all “speaking in tongues” did was confuse and scare me. At 17 I went to the altar only to be greeted by a man fully expecting me to break out in tongues as “proof” of salvation. I could not, and shortly after left the church only to spend the next 20 years in the wilderness. I do believe that which is perfect has come, the Bible, and that there is no need for that gift in our lives. I do believe it had a great purpose in the early church though. But now that we have Gods word there is no need to force ourselves to muster up a gift that could not circumvent what God has sent to us.
@brucemoeller3 жыл бұрын
Hello Rob. There appears to be a lot of layers to the issue of tongues in a group setting. I wasn't really thinking about "foreign languages" as such. It appears that your experience at 17 was quite detrimental to your faith walk, as it put this pressure on you to spontaneously "speak" in a language you were unprepared to speak. It seems like it meant that the "man who expected you to break out in tongues" was elevated above you. The notion I believe is that we are all to encourage and lift each other up, and that is the body of Christ, a purpose of the church. It failed miserably because you weren't being nurtured. We know that God has his own timeline, so I feel bad that you were treated like that.

That passage in 1 Corinthians 12 is not talking about the Baptism of the Spirit at conversion like in Acts 2, 10 and 19. If you look at the context Paul is talking about Spiritual Gifts. To which the gift of tongues that is given to someone is also accompanied by the gift of interpretation to another person. So that the function is in fact a message in tongues that is interpreted for the edification of the gathering of believers. Dr. Schreiner did a great job of documenting and articulating with faithfulness to the text the conversion experience of the baptism of the Spirit in Acts but conveniently skipped over the context of 1 Corinthians 12 and chose not to use exegetical faithfulness in which upon examination would reveal a conclusion that goes against his confession of faith regarding the spirit. Namely that the Baptism of the Spirit is accompanied by tongues as the testimony of Acts reveals over and over and 1 Corinthians 12 is talking about Spiritual Gifts that are an ongoing function in the ministry of the church to which as Paul says, "some do not have that gift" but perhaps have the gift of knowledge, wisdom or interpretation. Again, Paul in 1 Corinthians 12 was not talking about the tongues that accompany the Baptism of the Spirit at conversion like we see in Acts but the ongoing function of spiritual gifts in the ministry of the church for the edification of the gathering of believers.

Acts 2 was certainly human languages; but, 1 Corinthians 14:2 is equally certainly non-human languages “NO man understandeth him.” The uniting factor is not which language, but that the Holy Spirit gives the utterance (Acts 2:4)

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, -- Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.” These are descriptions of two different manifestations of the miracle of tongues. One is human languages and the other is a language that humans do not understand.

@@ngugisimon6471 Samson and the prophets of the O.T. had the Holy Spirit come upon them and fill them but then depart for a time because God hadn't yet made being " born of the Spirit" available to man yet. Being " born of the Spirit" is to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. That is to be filled to overflowing. This is caused by praying to be filled until God answers our prayer and does so. Then we must surrender our tongue to the Spirit until He takes control of it and enables us to speak in the spiritual language that the English translation calls " tongues". When this occurs it triggers the filling overflow. At that moment the Holy Spirit joins with ours and remains within us. Speaking in this spiritual language is God giving us and those praying with us supernatural evidence that we have recieved the Holy Spirit. Recieving the Holy Spirit is to vital to our salvation for God to leave it up to man to say when we have or haven't recieved so He provides this sign.

Having been given the private language of tongues, I have often stated that it moves ME out of the way so that my intellect loses control and my spirit then communicates with my Father. When I have stepped back a bit, the language sounds like a legitimate language but I cannot understand and thus I lose control of it and my spirit speaks to His Spirit. If we listen to others speaking in a legitimate language we do not know like Estonian for example, it sounds a bit like gibberish but it is not gibberish but a valid language we simple do not understand. The Professor's explanation is very good and very grounded. I thank him for helping me explain my private language to others in a way that does not freak them out.

Regardless of whether tongues is actual language or an utterance we should not deny the power the word says it gives us for personal edification. So if I give utterance or speak a foreign language that My mind doesn’t understand, and I do that in my prayer closet, the word says I can be personally edified and built up. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. I also believe faith can come by discerning truth in my inner being that i can’t express. If the word says “do not worry” I agree that it is beneficial to trust God. I can read other scriptures about the faithful nature of God and build my faith and peace upon those truths until I can approach my circumstance that is tempting me to worry with full assurance that God is sovereign over that situation. I can also pray and the Holy Spirit can reveal the faithful nature of God to my inner man and bypass my understanding and give me a sense of assurance. We carry Jesus inside of us. There are two ways to access the spirit of truth dwelling in us. Renewing our mind by the word (Romans 12), or revelation by the Holy Spirit that searches the mind and heart of God and reveals Gods thoughts to us. “But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him"- these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ESV We can have a sense of discernment about a matter that connects to Gods truth that can come from the Spirit that dwells in us. If you open your mouth in utterance and it sounds like gibberish there is no instruction against it and you don’t have to be afraid of people who do that. I would say maybe don’t do it in a gathering where it is a distraction but if you get in your closet feel free to speak gibberish to God then go on that journey. I did that and I began sensing things to pray for with intelligible words. I did not let fear prevent me from exercising faith. If you feel weird about it then don’t do it. How do you know whether you are or are not speaking a foreign language anyway and if it’s for personal edification where as prophesy is for edifying the body why would you speak a tongue or foreign language to God if you cannot understand it and how can that edify you? Could God also grant someone the ability to understand someone like a child who cannot speak well yet? Could he also do the same to someone who desires to speak Godly truth that hasn’t had a chance to study the word. What happens when someone is hungry for the truth of God and they can’t read? These are all questions we should ask in the context of these gifts of God. It’s not soo much about mind reading or mysticism but about a hungry person with integrity who desires to commune with God and find ways to express the goodness the God they have encountered. I love reading the word to gain what the writers inspired by the Holy Spirit we’re trying to convey to us, but I hope we will be careful not to create more boundaries God never placed on us. When a child is learning how to speak the things he desires to communicate are very real to him but he doesn’t have the language to describe them yet. He has the freedom to sound funny or say things wrong and hopefully eventually learns how to speak at a pace all can understand. As we discover these the place all gifts of God have in our lives the body of Christ should be a place of freedom to discover, maybe get some things wrong, and ultimately know God more and be known more. Ultimately we have to test the spirit like the word says and that requires discernment. There are people who know the word very well that operate in the wrong spirit and there are many believers bearing good fruit who aren’t well versed and don’t do things by the book often times. That doesnt always disqualify them. Anyway that was my long drawn out expression, thanks to anyone who took the time to read ;)

I will share my experience with speaking in tongues-raised Baptist and while attending a Baptist church, I was introduced to the concept of speaking in tongues. I am of a very literal mind set and need to have information that fully explains. Two ladies in the class shared there experience of praying in tongues. I felt in my heart that they were telling the truth but because of who I am, I took it to the Lord and asked Him to reveal the truth. Immediately I was led to several scriptures that confirmed what they had shared. I quietly informed the Lord that if He wanted me to have this...I wanted it. That was in 1984 and I’m still praying in tongues. What you have shared is only part of the story. Tongues are often a heavenly language but just as often an earthly language unknown to the speaker.

Sometimes we just don't know how to pray & the Spirit gives utterances. Who knows God but the Spirit. He that prayeth in an unknown tongue prays not to men but unto God. God knows the heart when the Spirit speaketh in groans which we ourselves don't know. Paul Thanked God he spoke in tongues more than anyone else. But I would rather speak words you can understand, Paul also said I would rather go & be with the Lord, but for your sake, I remain. He knew how important it was for his teaching over any gift or his departure. Funny we look at Salvation as a gift, but we can't look at the gift of the Spirit as gifts. I do love how this guy comes across, I think if there is a gentle way this man knows how to do it without flat out denying it. I hope this is how I look at differences like pre-trib as an example.

Just because the Holy Ghost shows a man Jesus is Lord how does that mean he is saved? The Spirit says to a man "Hey here is salvation, believe in Jesus", you accept, but you still according to scripture have to be baptized in the water and the Spirit (John 3:5). We know that to be baptized is a necessary action to receive salvation. The evidence is you get wet when you are baptized (which in Greek means immersed). No man had received the baptism on the Spirit until the day of Pentecost. There were "signs" that followed. When the disciples witnessed to the gentiles the "saw" that the Spirit was in them the exact same way ( Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? ) This is WAY more then just confessing with the mouth that Jesus is Lord. Many people sit in church every Sunday and confess Jesus is Lord just like the demons, but when they go home and reject their daughter for dating another race, when they go to work and cuss like a sinner, when they go to the casinos and spend Gods money on greed, when they support anti-abortion and vote to stop food stamps and support for the same woman that they want to force to have the child ("not my child not my problem, Im a Christian) they are not saved. They are hypocrites. We know how God feels about hypocrites.

Because Jesus said to them "receive the holy spirit" and he breathed on them. A few years later when I had a crisis in my life and experienced great suffering, I prayed and asked to be comforted and then immediately received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues, I did not understand what had happened until some time later when I started attending a Church building and other people had the gift of speaking in tongues too. I now pray in tongues as The Holy Spirit leads and I worship God in Spirit and in truth as I am also led to sing in The Spirit too. I have been born again approx 48 years now. We must be careful not to insult the work of The Holy Spirit, I do not question that what I have received is from God. I know the enemy will counterfeit all he can but this scripture I share is where I stand in trusting God that what I have received is a gift from a good Father to His child. Luke 11:11-13 (KJV) 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

It is the same exact gift in Acts 2 & Acts 8. They spoke languages which they had not learned to speak. Paul says that it can be both angelic and human languages. The initial speaking in tongues is a sign that one has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That is what Peter explained to the crowd on the day of Pentecost. "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear." What did they see and hear? They seen men from Galilee speaking in several different languages which they had never learned. Is it for today? According to Peter in Acts 2 this promise is " to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”" This includes us today. According to Jude, it is very important to build one's self up in their most holy faith, praying in the Spirit. I have had the pleasure of laying hands on many people, even some who came from Baptist churches and did not believe in this gift from God. After showing them what the Word of God clearly teaches in order to tear down the strongholds in their minds from incorrect teaching, they received the promise of the Father (baptism of the Holy Spirit) with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues which they had never learned. God is awesome and He only gives good gifts to His children! The "burden of proof" is actually not on the one with a biblical experience, but on the one who is trying to explain why they have not experienced it.

I was very sceptical on tongue speaking today and no one truly gave me a clear answer that I can understand. But now my understanding has been strengthened. I wasn't against it just sceptical, I never wanted to create a statement because of the chance of making conflict when we all want to serve God. Thank you very much Doctor.

Three times in the book of Acts it is recorded that believers recieved the Holy Spirit. In all three instances the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues. Now believers who haven't spoken in tongues must ask themselves if, in God's eyes, these three instances show what they should expect as proof that they have recieved is speaking in tongues or not.

I actually admire & respect him for clearly saying “I DON’T THINK...” when citing his positions. He’s clearly walking in the light that he has for now. I’m sure his position would change later when he receives more light about this subject. Nobody/denomination has the full counsel of God. That’s why, we are all parts in the body of Christ.

As he gets to understand about tongues,many things are going wrong in the body of the messiah(christ) bc many diverse tongues have infiltrated those utilising them.I've seen the Hindu Kundalini spirit operating in churches and there's no telling when demons start whispering to people. Can someone who lives double life claim to speak ,pray or sing in tongues,given the tongues are from the Holy spirit who doesn't dwell in unclean abode?

I feel the gift of tongues is in operation today in believers to whom the Spirit distributes the gift. I come from a non charismatic background. I still lean much to the non Pentecostal doctrine. But I have experienced this gift personally and i exercise it regularly today in private.. it's certainly not an imagination. It is a real experience..... But i truly respect the speaker for his honest presentation. As he says, we cannot say that every believer should and will exercise this gift... And those who exercise are not the only ones who have been baptized in the Sprit... However giving credit to the speaker, there is room to ponder if what I am exercising today is very different from the one given in the bible...
