The only new car that I ever bought was a 2010 Kia Rio for my wife. It was one of the best csrs we ever had. The clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were replaced in the first year. They did not leak but the clutch would have a different bite distance every so often with a little bump feeling in the pedal. Very annoying but they fixed it free of charge. It was fantastic on diesel and very safe on overtaking. Then my wife had a dispute with a parked waste skip full of crushed concrete and we said goodbye to it.

Thanks for the vid - useful as always 👍. There's a worrying trend with the JLR brand. Someone high up needs to kick arse and drill down into why the reliability in certain areas is so bad. It's bound to affect the financial health of the company. I really liked the Jaguar XE and considered it before my recent purchase. I heard that someone had three engines replaced! Shame, considering it's one of the best driving cars in it's class with some journos suggesting it's even nicer to drive than the BMW 3 series.

I have an Evoque over 2 years old then I had a low battery warning so called Land Rover assistance who checked the battery and confirmed it was on the way out so it was replaced later by them with a new battery. This is my first issue with this car but it never failed. My previous Evoque of 5 years never had anything go wrong. The AA engineer who tested the battery told me that all cars have their problems and JLR are no worse in his experience. One of the problems is that they all share the same components. Even Japanese are not as good as they once were. My neighbour has a Lexus newer than mine and it is in a garage having been collected on a low loader and still not returned. Or how about a Tiguan with a blown engine. Or another neighbour with an X series BMW with a blown turbocharger and I can tell you more with Citroen and a new engine or Skoda fortunately under warranty has not been returned after 2 weeks. The AA engineer has been surprised with a number of Hondas with problems so the point I make is a lot of this is here say with many owners being protective of their brand.

I agree that people can be very protective of their brand (something I’ve never understood), but can tell you with countless examples that JLR produce some of the most unreliable cars on the market. This illustrates beyond doubt that many so-called prestigious brands are not actually as reliable as their perceived image might suggest. Given the results of the survey so far, you could be forgiven for thinking that once these Audis, Mercs and BMW's etc get a few more years on their clocks, they'll be total money pits...... And how odd that 40 odd percent of newish VW Polo's develop faults, yet the Skoda Fabia - which is basically the same car underneath, but is built in a different plant - does far better, and has a higher customer satisfaction rating.....

I’m with you ref your experience of JLR reliability. Currently driving my third Discovery 4 (a late 2016 Landmark edition) with nothing to report on any of them. Having said that, they were all taken out of the JLR dealer network for servicing and always looked after by a local independent specialist. Yes, the lack of main dealer stamps in the service book can impact residual value but I’ll take that chance, having read so many stories about JLR staff and their lack of product knowledge and care. With regard to the current Discovery 5 (although JLR don’t refer to it as such) the latest issue seems to be leaking windscreens, after the resin holding it in the frame becomes ‘brittle’ and subsequently porous. The reason I will never purchase one however is rather more fundamental than that…the removal of the superbly practical Disco 3/4 split tailgate/seat in favour of that single hatchback. God only knows why a group of ‘high-ups’ at JLR thought it was a smart idea to change the design of the rear door to the current offering.💩

Thanks for another great vlog👍🏻 We currently have a Mitsubishi ASX 4 Diesel 2011 model and we bought it with only 6,000 miles on it. We have put 70,000 on it to date. The only issue we noticed as soon it hit 50,000 miles we have had to change the oil+ filter every 5,000 miles due to it regenerating and causing the oil level to increase. This is no biggy, just annoying more than anything, but it's just to good to get rid of, especially as we tow with it as well. So we were thinking of getting a second tow car and I was thinking about the Audi Q5 2015 model, but I think after this I might have a re-think, what's your thoughts on a Kia Sorento MK 2 2015 2.2 Diesel as tow car and all rounder?

Interesting to note that most of the faults are electrical oriented, which in mitigation, is understandable in a petrol fueled vehicle, (no spark, no bark. Sorry), but it is the achilles heel of most vehicles for the very simple reason that cars are designed and constructed in dry air conditioned buildings and then let loose to the vagaries of the british climate. Bodes well for the onset of EVs we are expected to use. Now my 20 year old diesel landrover, (approaching 200,000 on the clock), doesn't mind the weather and providing the "melon muppets" allow me to drive it, will still be going when most of the glorified milk floats end up in landfill.
