We all agree gharar (risk) is something to be avoided. Insurance and takaful reduces the gharar (risk) associated with unfavourable events like fire, theft, accident. So it is a good thing. The approach sharia has of looking at each contract in isolation does not make sense in risk management.

Our shaykh kept on saying "interests" while he meant "insurance". This is just a footnote for those of you who are confused.
@ImranAli-tm3rq5 жыл бұрын
Insurance- nobody wants to pay insurance but you are paying for peace of mind. A small accident can result in a 100,000 dollar bill up front...that is the world we live in.

Excellent lecture. Such clarity of logic mashallah. Just a small annoying slip of language which continued though out the lecture was calling interest when he meant insurance.

The security guard example does not hold water because in that example case you are purchasing a service that is tangible. Alhamdulillah for Allah's guidance to avoid insurance. And Allah knows best.

JAK, correction- insurance companies don’t necessarily always invest in guaranteed return like bonds etc. They do invest in mutual funds, ETFs where there is no guarantee of return; sometimes, they lose money too.

realistically no, your not gambling away your money and it is assured that you will get the thing or things you want, unlike insurance where you don't know if you will need it or not

Salam alaikum Sheikh, it’s very confusing since you started talking about insurance and then you keep on talking about interest. I don’t know if you mean interest or insurance.
@umer_k76185 жыл бұрын
You see,his point is,insurance is impermissible because of several reasons,including that *it* includes interest
@salmanmuslehuddin40785 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he mistakenly said “interest” instead of “insurance” in a couple of places. May Allah bless Sh Yasir Qadhi!
@farhaanadam26095 жыл бұрын
@@salmanmuslehuddin4078 I don't think the sheikh has erred here. It is a well settled principle of Shari’ah that every transaction between two parties in which the payment by one party is certain and mandatory while payment by the other party depends upon a contingency (which may or may not occur) is included in qimar and gharar and is therefore unlawful. Similarly When an individual buys an item on this basis, then on paying back, he has paid more/less than what was loaned. This is interest which is haram. Any excess payment made over and above the principal amount is riba and thus haram. Allahu a'lam
@salmanmuslehuddin40785 жыл бұрын
@@farhaanadam2609 Yes, that part I understood, I think what spouzmai salimi was referring to is that the shaykh mistakenly said "Interest" instead of "Insurance" in a couple of places. Listen to the sentence starting at around the 11:08 mark. He says " since Interest began in the 17th century", Obviously, he meant to say Insurance. I think (but am not sure) that the same mistake happened in one or two other places too..
