A lot of part worm tyres come from Germany where standards are higher, tho some can be badly repaired cheapies. I just buy new budget for normal cars, got one for a quasgui on Saturday, 85 quid brand new, looks impressive. Back in the day I put 4 remoulds on an allegro (!) they all blew out over the course of a few weeks, customer was going nuts, tyre place said, yeah they all do that.

The problem with part worn tyres in my eyes is that that they have been removed for a reason. They are a safety item that has lots of variables and points of failure and wouldn’t want that liability on my mind. I have had a part worn tyre detread after about 50 miles while on a motorway and wouldn’t want that to happen to a customer. They should have offered budgets and given the customer an option to put towards better tyres. I’m sure they wouldn’t consider part worn brake pads if they needed replacing.

If its using oil, it's a big problem as customer won't carry any and no dipstick, first they'll know is oil level light on, may just carry on, maybe on motorway, average person isn't into checking oil often, next it's back and a refund, oil stain on cover is a bit of a clue tbh. I don't buy anything with a TSFI badge on, vws or audis, I'd be amazed if it's not burning oil tbh.

I’ve put both cheap new and part worn tyres on my vans for years and not had any issues. Funny though I do get branded tyres on the wife’s car. When I bought her latest car recently the dealer was putting two budget tyres on as part of the sale for the MOT and I was happy to pay for Michelin’s. He did subtract the cost of the cheaps of which was brilliant but I didn’t expect it.

Tires - that would be a good old 'Fifth Gear' test, cheap brands versus part worns. Must admit when I hit paydirt I'd go cheap and new, I always wondered with a p/w how many times that previous owner had bounced up and down kerbs and stuff or what it could have been through if it came off a wreck.

I don't buy off other traders bud, been absolutely done loads of times, main dealer p ex at auction or genuine private sellers, anything else is so risky, you don't want wbac or car buying group stuff at auctions either. I've just bought a 207 at auction, car buying group, didn't notice, on way back limp mode, turbo problems, you've really got to be so, so careful, I've sold 3 cars this weekend and all I've achieved is I've blown a grand, that's after loads of work as well, hope they don't come back either (!)

Even lost on a mint fiat 500,it just wouldn't sell.

Part Worn Tyres happens everyday in the Haulage Industry, basically, it's an Economical Option.
@stevenmoran4060
@stevenmoran4060 10 күн бұрын
15 year old German cars are basically a big problem waiting to happen. They don’t age well or economically. Part worn tyres are never acceptable to my mind. You have no idea where they came from and why they came of the car they started on. A lot of insurance companies won’t be too happy to insure a car with se I d hand tyres on it. Check the policy carefully, My cars tyres are 20 inch and £250 each! I had a puncture and because using the sullied gunk didn’t work due to me having a hybrid where the ignition turns off after 3 minutes, the RAC repaired it with a plug with the very clear instruction to replace the tyre after no more than 50 miles and do not exceed 50 mph. That was on a brand new car only 2 weeks old. A tyre repair is a get you home fix not a suitable fix to last until the tyre tread wears right down. Funny how manufactures supply tyre repair kits you can’t use in a hybrid isn’t it? Only way to keep the car in engine is sit in drivers seat with hazard lights on which of course is impossible to do on your own trying to inflate a tyre with the kit! I am prepared now though.

Depends where you get them from and who you know, personally I prefer and buy new but a friend who does alot of mot work and knows the local tyre guys always seems to get matching sets of premium tyres....only this week he got matching Michelin's and Continental 18" for £140 a set of 4 fitted, the price of one tyre...to be fair they did look very good but a couple did have plug repairs....Any time I've tried to get them they offer me crappy no name Chinese things.😂

But surely every tyre being used on the road is part worn
@gaddmeister
@gaddmeister 10 күн бұрын
@@ChopsGarageBut if you buy it new, you know where it comes from. The damage from tyres isn't just tread, it's collapsed sidewalls, cracking , separating. I've just put a full set of new decent budget tyres on and the ride is transformed. You do not know where a part worn has come from! They could have been running them at low pressure, thus compromising and damaging the integrity of the tyre, which causes splits down to the cords etc. Would you want that on your conscience? Not sure I would ever buy a car off you.

@Clodhopping 10 күн бұрын
@@gaddmeister But any used car might have decent tread on the tyres that have been kerbed by careless owners and you'd never know what the structure of the tyre was like. Personally I avoid any budget tyres and go for known brands in mid-upper range. If someone can't afford half decent tyres then they probably can't afford to run a car.

That convertible in winter crap! FFS does anyone truly know someone that buys their car buy the seasons?! Utter guff! Reminds me of the grumpy old F****** that used to say more extras, more to go wrong! Best part of a happy lucky 25yrs driving 'loaded' cars - the bells and whistles were never a prob.

Some of the stuff if it goes wrong it just means you don't have the extra feature anymore. Like cruise control, tyre warning, heated seats, heated windscreen, air conditioning. Parking sensors. Fog lights, blind spot monitor. Reverse camera. Sat nav. Electric folding mirrors. Doesn't matter if it fails. It just becomes car without these features.

Part worn tyres from a dealer is an absolute no no! You don't know where that tyre comes from. I bought some once and once only. There was a vibration at speed and on inspection a huge egg in the tyre. They were Michelin's. I would steer clear of a dealer prepared to put part worms on! Parts is a different kettle of fish, however, you wouldn't put a part worn cambelt on, would you?

most of the used cars sold in this country have part worn tyres on them. when a car has been used the tyres are part worn and you don't know where that tyre comes from or how it has been driven before the car was traded in. l could batter my tyres up and down kerbs every day and the sidewalls could be shot to bits but you would never know untill it lets go. so part worns could be safer than a well used tyre fitted to a used car because you can fully inspect a part worn for sidewall damage and puncture repairs before fitting and a used tyre on a second hand car could be hiding all sorts of horrors that you will never know about

Check the tyres when you buy, negotiate the price accordingly and buy decent tyres yourself after. DON'T BUY SH*T BUDGET TYRES!!!! look at the wet grip rating of Chinesium stuff vs proper tyres, you want to have flattened some ones kid coz you cheaped out on tyres ? can be many meters difference in wet braking distance, never mind how quickly that garbage wears out. makes 80 quid difference on say 16" tyres between the cheapest possible and a half way decent 'A' wet-rated tyre for a set of 4. £350 instead of £200 gets you the best tyres vs the cheapest, will last longer and perform much much better in all conditions.

Not always the case, I binned 2.5 year old Michelin Latitudes with very low miles as the walls and between the treads were covered in cracks....£620 wasted. I only buy Toyo and Landsail tyres now, they're a good higher end mid range tyre that suit my needs...approx £90 each for my size.

I'd agree that it's would not be my move but the comments regarding the cars value are really a moot point. There is normally 1500 to 2k gross margin in a car right from 5k to 20k so it makes little difference what it's retail price is to how much you can spend in prep
