What is your favorite A-Cam, B-Cam Combo? Is the C400/C80 the best any manufacturer has ever done in creating the perfect combination?

I use two Sony A1 for both photo and video and it is a real workhorse. It's not as successful than the FX3 or A7S3 because of the price tag but it is always relevant in 2024 : 8K50, 4K120, 50Mpix @30fps, SLOG3, S35mode AND Sony's clearscan... Even the A1mark2 has the same sensor!! I finally sold my FX6 to keep them two instead. You can find some of those at nice discounted prices now.

I'm still yet to see a FX6 look pleasing to the eye.

We like the FX6 and the FX3! The sensor is indeed the same. Also true for the a7s III & zv-e1.

That seems to be the most popular choice these days. Pretty smart from Sony to have so many options of cameras with the same sensor and IQ.

Yea Sony seems to have really focused on having an ecosystem that a person can grow with. Someone in their company really paid attention to the change in industry and market. Canon seems like they don’t want have their hybrids work on the same level as their cinema line

Im using two C70 cameras as A and B cam. :) And a R5C and R3 for photos. Works really good but its a lot of cameras to log around.

Two C70s is still the best A-Cam/B-Cam setup you can buy.

You’ve got me thinking! We do a volume of weddings and more consistency of capture would really smooth out the editing process! Great vid, thank you!

For lots of output work like weddings, having the exact same IQ across all cameras used is HUGE. I've learned this the hard way, for sure.

We picked Canon C400 C80 A-B cam over Sony. I think you nailed it. Great video.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video and agree with the camera choice!

I’m using the C70 as my A cam and my B cam is the R6 MKII, works fine for my use case, especially when I’m shooting content where I have full control of the lighting conditions.
@CurrenSheldon22 күн бұрын
The R6 II does seem to be pretty great. The R5 II with C-Log2 may be more usable as a C70/C80 B-Cam as well. I always found the R5 and R5c difficult to match with the C70.
@sakhiwomthunzi10 күн бұрын
@ the R5 MKII would definitely be a great match for the C70 over the R6 MKII. However I don’t think it’s a great business investment for me at this point because it simply won’t make my business any more profitable as is. I also think that the R5 MKII should have had triple base ISO just like the C80 and C400. I just genuinely don’t understand what’s the R5 MKII’s selling point.

I've been looking at the C70 for a long time. Now, with the C80 and the C400 it seems like a marriage made in heaven. I hope I can pick these two bad boys up some day.

All beautiful cameras.

I picked up the R5C as my A can right now (because I can build it up on set or strip it down for travel) with the intention of getting a C80 or C400 down the line. I might also just switch to Sony at some point 😂 we’ll see how things go.

I keep going back and forth on either a used C500 Mark ii or a C400. Either way, a C80 as a B cam is a great option both cameras.

Very helpful video, thanks mate. I'm curious why do you not like the Sony FX6 and FX3 image quality?
@CurrenSheldon9 күн бұрын
I find the image still feels 'thin' to me - colors aren't as deep and rich as Canon. I also find the color still gets wonky in mixed lighting or in bad lighting - sick looking skintones. I see incredible images out of the FX3/6 and they work great in daylight and nice lighting situations, but I feel like I can put my C70 (or any Canon or Red or DJI camera) in a lot of situations and not worry about it coming out not-great looking.

I agree with having the same cameras is so important…I personally think the C70 has more true DR then the C400 and C80 so I’m gonna keep my setup and just stick with the 3 C70’s
@CurrenSheldon9 күн бұрын
Agreed that the C70 still has the nicest looking image in the Canon realm (along with the C300 Mark III, obviously) or really anything below $15k.

I REALLY want canon to make a proper FX3 competitor. Give us the C400 C80 sensor in an R5. You can even cut raw past 23.98. I just need something that is easy to mount on a gimbal and carry around all day. I currently run a C400 C70 setup but the C70 really isn’t ideal for Gimbal use. Yes it works but it’s not ideal and it’s heavy for long shooting days.

What did you not like on the c70-c300iii in comparison to the c80-c400?

Mentioned several times in the video. Lens mount, cables, ports, …

I’ve been using the R5c/R6ii combo with a R7 backup. After tomorrow my A/B will be a C80/R5c and C/D will be R6ii/R7……. Until I get a C70. Then the R7 goes and it will be my C80/C70/R5c
