This car has a very special place in my heart. The first car I ever got to drive on a track day was my dad’s c5 zo6. We were able to get some used Ferrari race wheels and tires that stuck out an inch passed the fenders and that thing absolutely ripped. It’s still the fastest car I’ve ever driven at speed. The power was humbling, but the traction control gave me confidence to push my own limits. My dad still has the car and I’m counting the days until I can buy it from him.

I bought a C5 6-speed manual, black on black hatch when I was 24 years old. It cost me $18,000 CDN cash (private sale). I drove it for 5 years, it was such an amazing vehicle. And the gas mileage was shockingly good! I averaged 30mpg. The hatchback had a ridiculous amount of space for a sports car, it actually made the vehicle a great daily driver. I sold it for $19,500. I miss the sound of that engine and exhaust, didn't need any music.

Did I mention the previous owner took the entire car apart to repaint it and it now looks like new. All new interior as well. The wheels look brand new and the top looks perfect. Everything else is old. It is 23 years old but looks better than my 2016 truck that I bought new. Also had a bassani exhaust. The only thing that needs a little restoration is the calipers possibly a rear main seal. I'll do the clutch and flywheel when I do the seal and maybe sell it after that.

I have owned a 97 C5 for 22 years so this is probably my favorite recent youtube video. It floors me how much of a bargain they are. Intake exhaust and tune raises power quite a bit. Swapped in an LS6 after sucking water in the aftermarket ram air that sits 6 inches from the ground. With cheap mods my LS6 is making 392hp at the rear wheels so about 450hp at the crank and it does get 30+mpg on the highway with stock gears. Borla xr1 racing exhaust sounds magnificent. Too many great memories to let go and frankly there is no better option for a sports car at its price. Its cool seeing how the new gen of tuners are flexing a modern c5 style with wide bodies, deep dish cambered wheels and lowered to the max with body kits and wings. The ones you found for this video look like art. And I don't think it takes too much to get them there. The c5 can be lowered by swapping 2 bolts to longer ones and twisting them to the hight you want. Its practically free to lower them.

Corvettes have been known as "crisis cars" long before the Internet had arrived. One of the biggest reasons they get hate is because of the crappy interiors, reputation as an old man's car, as well as the mullet crowd, not the performance. But I do believe Corvette has shaken that reputation off for the most part, Mainly because of the blistering performance of the C5 zo6 to current.

I've been daily driving(beating the snot out of) a 2000 6spd manual base coupe for 7 years now. I currently have 3 Vettes along with many other cars (14 in all). I've always owned Corvettes since I was 15 years old. This C-5 is hands down the most durable, best performing all around car I've ever owned. Once on a trip to Reno (for Hot August Nights) from L A driving all around Reno and Virginia City and back to LA it averaged 28.8 MPG, with many triple digit moments. The car has 159,000 miles and has its original clutch, I only replaced the original brake pads, rotors, and wheel hub assemblies about 2 months ago. No mods except 4 core aluminum tank radiator, steel casters mounted in front to take the speed bumps and driveways, chrome molly adjustable end links for the sway bars and Baer brakes fully adjustable tie-rod ends. It Rolls on C-6 Z06 wheels and has Z06 mufflers. It will still outperform 90 percent of the cars on the road today even though it was designed in the late 80s early 90s and was 1st sold in 1997. An almost 30 year old design. People constantly ask about it no matter where I am. For the money, in my opinion, there isn't a better car out there, period.

Just did brake upgrades, Corsa Extreme exhaust, Silver Coilovers, Corvette Spec suspension tidbits, Sparco racing buckets and harnesses and a list of other stuff. I have never been happier with a car! And, I bought a 2004 Commemorative Edition too! So my geek is even stronger with the livery and rarity. LS6 baby! Great vid my man! I bought my C5Z 15 years ago. I was a much younger version of myself looking for the best sports car I could afford on a mid level mechanics budget. After owning a 1991 Eclipse GSX, leasing a 2003 lancer Evo8, and being subscribed to all the import magazines, it's fair to say I was a JDM guy. I test drove some Nissan 350/370z's and I was going to get a very clean 2008 350z 6 speed with 22k miles on it. But every day on the way to work I kept driving by this Black C5 Z06 sitting right by the road. I was hesitant because again I was a JDM guy, but I went to test drive it that weekend and the car blew me away. The salesmen was very cool and let me rip on it. He was a few years older than me and said he owned a Ducatti. I put a security deposit on it that day. 15 years later I have been ripping on this thing, driving it like a lemans car, and I have not had a single major mechanical failure on anything. I have fully upgraded the suspension, brakes, and tires and I can vouch these cars handle incredible when you get them dialed in. I find it funny they are peaking in interest now, so many years later, because when I first got mine everyone was sleeping on them hard. By the way, the interior does not deserve the hate it gets. It's very pleasing to the eye's, even if the center console does creak a little bit.

I'm an old man with a C5. I can't help I'm an old man but I can choose what I drive. Always thought the C5 looked like it was designed and shaped in a wind tunnel - shaped by the wind. Maybe it was. If you've never driven an LS1.....I hope someday you do.

I'm a Honda guy (88 civic wagon with 511whp that looks stock) but I NEED a C5 so bad bros........ The way they kept the weight down is very impressive to me. Can you drop an extra atmosphere of boost on the stock block as long as it's tuned correctly?

I've always been into cars. I also fix watches for a living. I cringe at the fanboy-ism in both areas. I find it sad that there is so much of it. I can appreciate many types of watches. Same with cars. I find it hard to associate with many that claim to be "car guys," because they are so tribal. It's ridiculous. I just love cars. From a FWD Buick to a Ferrari, to the C5 Vette or a even my wife's 2018 Honda minivan. I can talk about all these vehicles. Appreciate what they do. The engineering that went into them. Etc. We need more appreciation in this way.

I've had two c5 Z06s 2002 and 2004 both yellow One with a LSX454 another with a fully build LS3. To be honest the thing was a monster and a lot of run to drive. The community is also one of the best. Between the forums and local communities its easy to work on and rather affordable. Even a beat to heck one is easy to repair and get back to shape. Stock the vehicle was a blast and easy to drive. The negatives: 1. The offset with the wheels is a pain. Especially if you intend to keep the stock z06 wheels as there are only two or three tires you can buy for the car without oversizing. If you intend to change the wheels on the car the traction control needs a certain offset or the brakes will randomly engage on you. (there is no way to turn this off or tune it out of the computer) There are charts and calculators out now so you know what wheels you can buy for the car without tripping the abs. 2. The manual transmission stock needs a shift eliminator. Sometimes when driving in the city the car forces you to go to 4th gear from 1st because of emissions. its a pain the replacement mod is about $30. 3. Rubber leaking the seals around the doors is all rubber and gets rotted on all models within 10 years. If you live in a rainy or snowy state expect to change them every 5 years and can get expensive. 4. Super noisy cabin and overall crazy cheap build quality. I a late model miata feels more lavish. The car is noisy, cheap feeling inside with a very uncomfortable ride. With long tube headers the kickplate gets insanely hot from the heat of the exhaust. I think build quality was the biggest issue for me and ultimately why I sold both. 5. Radio head unit is a double din. You cant just swap the head unit it wont fit right so you need to send your actual center console in to someplace like double din mods to be modified or buy a modified one off ebay. Additionally youll need to buy new amps as the bose unit had a built in amp and the stock speakers wont work right with a different head unit. 6. Keeping it clean. The back of the C5Z will kick up all sorts of road debris onto the rear of the car. Sometimes rock chips and mud, tire compound etc. I highly suggest a clear bra with heat resistance or youll be needing to paint the rear of the car sooner than you will want. You can daily drive the car but if you do I suggest keeping it as stock as possible. If you get a modded one which most are now be sure to look for rod knock and head gasket leaks. I would also suggest upgrading the stock clutch asap as the C5Z clutch is kinda trash if you intend to track the car.

The c5 corvette is such a performance bargain. If it was German had a better interior and was not mass produced it would be a supercar worth 5 times the price. But shhhhh I’m trying to get one in a couple months 🤣

Small correction … FYI: C5 sold 31k cars when it came out, but the C4 in 1984 sold 51k cars. The C4 actually did sell really well.

Hating on the c4 is deserved but the c5 is probably my all time favorite. The styling on this car is second to none.
