After becoming a muslim I embarked on a journey to egypt (misr) to learn my deen. After being here some years and seeing students come from all around the world and go back, here's what I learned from them about choosing the right place to study arabic and making the most of one's studies.
Maraakez mentioned:
Al-ibaanah ibaanah.com
Al-fajr fajr.com
Al-furqan furqangroup.com/eg
Lesan Al-Arab www.lesanularab.com/?home
The video titled "What Markez (language center) is for me in Egypt?" by Daud Burke explores his journey to Egypt for studying Arabic and Islamic teachings after converting to Islam. He shares insights for students from around the world on choosing the right language center in Egypt, emphasizing the importance of considering one's study duration and goals.
Daud discusses the different types of language centers available, categorizing them based on their teaching focus-some prioritize Quranic Arabic and grammar, while others emphasize conversational skills. He specifically mentions several maraakez (centers):
- **Al-ibaanah**: Known for its focus on Quranic Arabic and grammar, it is well-regarded but also more expensive compared to others.
- **Al-fajr**: Offers a focus on speaking and is also among the more expensive options, known for its reputation.
- **Al-furqan**: A more affordable option that, like Al-ibaanah, focuses on Quranic Arabic and grammar.
- **Lesan Al-Arab**: Not detailed in the snippet but listed among the centers.
Burke shares his personal experience with Al-fajr, noting it provides comprehensive assistance, including help with residency permits, although he suggests that much of what they offer could be managed independently.
The video serves as a guide for students looking to study Arabic in Egypt, offering practical advice on selecting a markez that aligns with their learning objectives and financial considerations.

I went to al ibaanah and i recommend for students to enter Lisan al Arab before going to il ibaanah. One should be learning vocabulary and learning how to speak and understand before jumping into grammar. You’ll benefit more this way also when you start learning grammar because you’ll be able to understand everything youre teacher is saying.

I was from the first to study at Al-Ibaanah back in 2003 and did levels 1-8. I benefited greatly and my speaking ability was magnificent back then. The classes were small so we had lots of back and forth discourse with our teachers. We were also studying in the masajid with sheikhs and had to travel back and forth to the duroos. Speaking was no issue. I am very greatful for my experience at Al-Ibaanah. I also did Markaz Nile. It was a breeze compared to Al-Ibaanah but I was able to compare my level to those who where already studying at Al-Azhar.

Would you say that Al Ibanaah is sufficient for speaking or do I need a private teacher for speaking too? Because from what I heard, that the Focus at ibanaah is more on grammar and the students are very good in the sciences at the end

@@sensoke5491 I cannot speak for Al Ibaanah now. I assume they have not strayed too much from their original menhaj. I would say if you are mingling in society and studying something outside of the markaz in a masjid or with a personal sheikh, you won't need a tutor for Arabic.

Asalamualaykum, I was at Lisan al arab around 2019/2022. When I was there they taught muqadamah ajroomiyah from level 3 /4 (including taheedi), until level 9 after that they had another higher level grammar book, level 11 they began balagha and sarf to. They didn't teach the nahu which is found in bayna yadaik , as they taught ajroomiyah ect. Highly reccomend , especially if you can stay 18-24 months and finish the course . All there marakiz are good but to taste the real fruits u need to try and complete the whole syllabus.

I’ve just recently completed my studies in ibaanah and I’ve definitely benefited immensely from my time there alhamdulillah, speaking was also never an issue with me nor my classmates so I don’t see why people have this idea that if you study here your speaking won’t be good🤣. Nevertheless they recently implemented a new method which also helps a student in the speaking aspect aswell

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktu, I recently went to Lisan al arab just to see the markaz, compare the price difference and see if they still teach Arabiyya Bayna Yadyk but got told from the receptionist that they don't teach the books anymore unfortunately but have made their own books and curriculum for them. Kheir InshaaAllah maybe their books are good as well.
@DaudBurke
@DaudBurke 3 ай бұрын
wa Aliekom Salam waRahmatullahi waBarakatuh For the most part all these curriculum are tools to help get the student started. I think if they had all of that experience with these books and then made their own and they probably have a system that’s working for them. They used to break up the bayna yadayk books Ording to the sections that were in it and print each of these separately so there would be one for text and then there would be one for rules and grammar and this to be honest, easier for someone to use when studying and to have it all in one book, mixed in together. There’s a ton of curriculums out there. The important thing is that the student sticks with it until he finishes it and doesn’t second-guess himself at the beginning because he can end up in an endless cycle of starting and stopping and starting and stopping… it’s much better for him to start one thing and finish it, and then make up for any deficiencies afterwards.

BarakahAllahu fik brother for your awnser! May Allah reward you for clarifying further. I also wonder what you consider is a good level to switch from Fajr or if you do recommend finishing the whole program? I’m currently studying there and going to continue up to 9 months inShaaAllah and after that maybe choosing a more grammer heavy markaz, don’t know how much of a need that is tho.

@ginger91597 جزاك الله خيرا I appreciate the advice. Do you know anything about the quality of the online classes of Al-Ibaanah? Are they comparable to the quality of the lessons offered at the markaz? As for the private teachers, it doesn't matter to me where they're from as long as they are native Arabic speakers, qualified to teach, and professional. May Allah reward you abundantly for your help.

As-salamu alaykum brother. In your personal opinion, which Markez would you recommend for a 3 month beginners Arabic? Do they run all year round? Any advice is highly appreciated.
@DaudBurke
@DaudBurke 3 ай бұрын
wa Aliekom Salam waRahmatullahi waBarakatuh If all you have is three months to study some of them have special programs for going extra fast so basically taking An eight week class in four weeks. Usually this is around five hours a day. I did this once at fajr But it is expensive there, and also the vast majority of courses and language centers geared for such a small time. Some people recommend getting a private teacher that you can agree with beforehand to teach four hours a day intensively. Maybe with a couple breaks. You meant by three months that you are three months into studying, most of the centers, will have you take a placement test before coming in and that may help you get past the first few levels. The classes are constantly going, but in four week intervals. so you need to make sure that you apply before the next level starts. And this can differ from place to place.

Jazakallah Khair for your response. In terms of expensive, what was the price for the Fajr Markez. Also, which Markez would you recommend for my situation.
@DaudBurke
@DaudBurke 3 ай бұрын
When I was there, they were $125 every four weeks. And the one right next-door lisan alarab was about $50. And both of them are good. A private teacher. If you did it with another student could be much cheaper. A lot of people get a private teacher with a group of a couple other brothers and they study with them and it’s better for the teacher because there’s no middleman in the process and it’s better for the students because they split the cost of his time which is usually around eight dollars an hour And can be less

Can we get a student visa from any of these 4 markaz??
@DaudBurke
@DaudBurke 3 ай бұрын
For the most part, no. a few years back at fajr they had a service to help people get their visa if they purchased six levels at once. But I don’t think any of the other language centers did this most of them did not when I asked. But if you do get enrolled at any of the Azhar programs, then they will give you visa.
