Replace the Fiat diesel with a Mercedes Benz diesel. Replace front and rear Dana 44’s with Currie Rockjock full width 60’s, complete with Eaton e lockers and 4.56 gear set. Replace the ZF slushbox with a tremec tr4050 and an atlas II transfercase. Full Clayton off-road triangulated 4 link rear and 3 link front. King triple rate bypass reservoir coil overs, and anti rock sway bars. These are the mods that I believe you should do to your Jeep, or could have paid someone to do to a TJ for less than the ostentatious sticker price for the Jeep that you just bought. P.s. if all you are after is content then you should have definitely gotten a 392 motor, a lot more exciting than a sleepy Italian peanut oil furnace.

i got the 3.6 with the 6 speed and im getting 20 mpg on my daily commute. the last trip i took i was pulling a trailer and i also got about 20 mpg on that as well. cant wait to see what the empty highway mpg is. I am absolutely not a jeep person , i have always owned 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. but i bought the wife a jeep because she's always wanted one. i thought they were bad on gas and cramped. Well i've been driving it for a few weeks while i wait for my new custom ordered truck to show up and i'm pleasantly surprised with it. It does drive like a car and it gets better mpg than i ever thought it would. i'm glad i didn't pay extra for the diesel , there are reported issues if your commute is to short and you don't get them out on the highway to clear them out, it needs to be ran at operating temp for long periods of time occasionally to clear out the emissions equipment. On top of that the new required emissions equipment costs an arm and a leg when it inevitably fails. and it will fail. and all the money you think you saved in fuel just went to extra maintenance , repair , and shop costs. unless you drive commercially or commute insane distances for work diesels dont make sense anymore. My opinion on this subject would be 100% reversed if it wasn't for the federal government ruining diesel with all the required emissions BS. other than that i am a believer that diesels are inherently superior by fundamental design.

obviously you havent owned the 3.6 for very long. they dont get 20 mpg. your talking about a 3.6 L V-6 that produces 215 HP at the wheel, pulling a 5500 pound monster.. and the moment you put bigger tires on it it will drop drastically, and you add a all the mods, you add another 1000 pounds, then your getting under 14 mpg more like 12. and its gutless, the fack of the matter is they should offer it with a 5.7L hemi, and it would get better MPG or at least the same.. but it would have 150 more ft pounds of torque, and you could actually pass people going up a hill, or toe a golf cart or a small box of rocks.. theres a reason that most small v-6s are now turbo or supercharged, in most cases you gain massive ammounts of power, and it increases your overall fuel economy. But I agree, the U.S's regulations on diesel vehicles is abhorrent and it makes auto manufactures want to stear clear from making some really fun small diesel trucks and suvs, which would be great. my thought on the matter is that our country is so massive, and the sheer ammount of diesel that is used just in transportation.. being diesel electric trains, or all the commercial rigs on the road, they dont want every day drivers having diesels the supply for it couldnt be met, but moving people over to EVs or any number of hybrids keeps diesel in the trucks and trains that bring us all our crap we order online because were to lazy to go out and get it ourselfs

@Bryce Witkowoski you dont have to belive me , but the Jeep I had with 33s leveling kit , steel bumpers front and rear was honestly getting 17-18mpg daily in town. But it was a very unique jeep. For one it was practically a base model. But it was also a manual and because it was a manual it was geared lower from the factory than the autos were. The thing was good. Since that original comment I sold it and bought my wife a limited 4runner. Manly for reliability. It gets slightly worse mpg than the jeep did which I blame on the all time 4wd and Auto trans. But it should be a superior vehicle to own long term with reliability as a factor.

First of all, this type of Diesel engine has 30% less CO2 emissions than a comparable gasoline engine; second of all: the Diesel fuel in the U.S. has had an ultra-low Sulphur content since 1993; and thirdly the Nitrogen is captured by a regeneration unit attached to the engine; fourth: Diesel engines, when driven and maintained properly, outlast gasoline engines by hundreds of thousands of miles; fifth: the enormous torque, available at low RPMs makes for a much better take off than a gasoline engine. The 3.0 L Wrangler EcoDiesel engine has the same torque as 6.0 L gasoline engine, and much more low-end torque.
@BenKlassen13 жыл бұрын
@@bloomfieldgriller2957 That's all fine and good but first of all you pay a huge premium up front for a diesel due to all of the costly emissions technology. Second of all, the maintenance costs for a diesel nowadays are astronomical (want to spend $5000 on a new dpf filter when it inevitably plugs up with soot?). Third of all, as your DPF filter progressively fills up with regen-proof soot your power and torque decrease proportionately. Third of all, the legendary longevity of diesels is a notion that predates the emissions technology: diesels are far less reliable and their longevity is greatly reduced. Have you noticed how the oil on a new diesel is coal black shortly after your oil change? The soot being diverted back into the engine by the EGR valve is acting like liquid sandpaper on your engine's valves, bearings, cylinder walls, etc. Fourth of all, having a common rail injection system, as soon as one of your injectors go, you will be out big bucks for a new set: these are precision parts that plug with the slightest impurities in the fuel getting by your fuel filter. Fifth of all, you will be spending more per gallon for your ultra low sulfur fuel, which lubricates less than non-ultra low sulfur fuel, again reducing engine longevity. You'll also be spending money on boxes of diesel exhaust fluid which will pollute the environment to produce and transport which will go to the landfill once emptied. Sixth of all, your diesel engine will get less mpg than it would have minus the emissions crap because the injectors will be constantly injecting extra fuel during the exhaust stroke to heat up the DPF filter to make large captured soot particles into more dangerous-to-your-health small soot particles. The heat generated during a regen will be enormous making your Jeep a rolling forest fire ignition device requiring all stainless steel exhaust piping that is expensive to replace if it takes an impact. The fumes during regen will be noxious and you'd better not have a window down or the top off. Diesel isn't what it used to be or could be minus the emissions crap.
@bloomfieldgriller29573 жыл бұрын
@@BenKlassen1 I did not decide to buy the Diesel engine for financial reasons. I bought it for the low-end torque. I did not buy a $64,000 Jeep with a $29,000 base price to save money, but to buy it exactly as I want it to enjoy it for years to come. As to lifespan: the future will tell, but as a rule of thumb the lifespan of a Diesel engine is twice that of a gasoline engine.

You mentioned you would choose a gasoline engine if you would keep it for a long time. I am planning on driving it many miles and therefore chose the Diesel: Diesel engines outlast gasoline engines by hundreds of thousands of miles. Take it from somebody who grew up in Europe and whose family and friends have driven many Mercedes Diesel powered vehicles from new to 250-300,000 miles. By that time everything has stopped working (airco, electric seat adjustment, odometer, etc.), except, are you ready for it?, THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION!!

congratulations on you engagement, we hope you have many years of marriage as my wife & I have. We are both retired & don't plan to do much rock crawling, except to get to some out of the way fishing sites. For our 30th wedding anniversary, we decided that pearls weren't useful, It is much easier to pull our fishing boat with a 4x4 than a string of pearls! So, we bought our first Jeep, a Sarge Green, 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport, 4 door, 2.0 turbo, the black, 18" stars for the front doors are finally in at the dealership, where they will have them put on, for us, next week. This Jeep will be driven in parades, up here in NE Indiana, with the American Legion & the Disabled American Veterans.

The Rubicon 392 is going to be the most expensive yet. Ugh. Wonder if you guys considered the V6 which can be upgraded with aftermarket supercharger. It gives you V8 like torque. The 6k lb weight you refer to must be Gross Vehicle Weight? I assumed the Jeep’s curb weight was like 4,200 lbs. Where is the extra 400 lbs coming from? This is a great Jeep and 24 mpg is unheard of.

I'm assuming that the sensors for ADCC are in the bumper. If that is true, that would eliminate putting on a proper off road bumper with winch and bar. For tires, particularly if you live in snow country, you can't go wrong with Interco's TRXUS MT. They are quieter than most AT's on the road, have great wet traction too. And the dog through snow extremely well. Far better than any AT.

In Canada the diesel oil change is $450.00 according to Casey 250. So just wait till you have to pay for that. I pay $30 for my Gladiator Rubicon oil change. So that alone offsets the gas mileage loss.

You didn’t even get paint matched top or fenders, leather, optional hard top headliners, towing group, steel bumper group, rock slider with step assist… just what I saw in the first 45 seconds. Fully loaded?… don’t think so. You got a base Rubicon with the eco diesel and advanced safety group. Sorry to bust your balls but come on man. You didn’t check off hardly any boxes. Also, the 8.4” display isn’t optional on the Rubicon. It’s standard.

What a magical first ‘major’ road trip for Tina. Congratulations, she still looks amazing and I can’t wait to see what the end result will reveal (after mods). My Jeeps were all stock (a YJ Sahara (4.3), a YJ Islander (4.0L H.O. ), a Cherokee Ltd and a Briarwood). But also ... only one (Ex’’s new Islander) of mine cost more than $3,500 (less than the Diesel upgrade). My Jeeps were more of a ‘well used’ 2nd/3rd vehicle. Not necessarily reliable, but F’n Fun as Heck! I agree with you; everyone should experience a Jeep ... at least once. Even if its just a rental. They certainly are unique. Thanks for the video.
