I hated him beyond words. He was a sour, sour, self-pitying sociopath. A typical day with him would be Deek riding about, spotting strangers out in the world who he couldn't possibly have known anything about, then he'd start mumbling to himself about how they were all evil and had to die - despite him knowing *nothing* about them. Absolute psychopath. Now think of survivors out in the world hearing gruesome tales of a lone motorbike rider cruising around, murdering stragglers and small groups, and Deacon becomes even less likeable. I really, really, really hated that character, and his narcissistic portrayal.

Don't listen to those two people in your comment section brother. I also love Deacon, hell, 70% of the reasons why I love Days Gone is because of the main protagonist. People may hate him because he's always talking to himself but let's face it, it's a freaking zombie apocalypse, and he thought his wife died. Although he's always struggling with his mental issues, he still cares about everyone that accompanies him. His love for Sarah and bromance with Boozer is well-executed. That guy saying he didn't care for anyone is hilarious. May be he's the guy who saw Kratos killed a normal enemy then hate on Kratos because "he knew nothing about that enemy". Days Gone sold well, the director of the game said it sold as well as Ghost of Tsushima did at the time (2021). Sold over 8 or 9 million in just a year and a half. This whole argument that people bought it on sale is not the killer argument you think it is. Because if the player base is there, that justification for a sequel. A person that bought it at $30 but enjoyed it, will be hyped for the sequel, so its very important for a New IP to get as many players as possible, because it will reflect in the sequel's potential fan base that will buy the sequel.
@Alfonso88279
@Alfonso88279 Ай бұрын
It's a matter of priorities, Sony is not as huge as you could think if you remember the huge number of high investment projects they always keep open. So they can invest in a game that received mixed reviews, from both journalists and players, a game that had to be sold at a discount one month after release (or was it 3 months? can't remember, but it doesn't change my argument much), a game that looks dumb to play (one guy killing two thousands zombies in a minute XD), OR... or they can keep investing in Spiderman, The last of us, god of war, horizon, etc... some of those franchise are among the most beloved in history of gaming. Maybe if you guys keep pretending Days gone is a masterpiece, it will eventually happen. You know, like what happened with Shenmue. Every shenmue game was a comercial failure, but people kept talking about it, until a new failure was finally released. Let's go for Days gone 2, we'll see how many people actually get it for full price.

Days Gone just wasn't a game setup for a 'review cycle' It really takes about 10-12hrs to get going. But man, what a game. One of my favorites I've finished in the past few years. Once I got over the hump, I could. not. stop. playing it. I think it really caught wind when it released on PC. Such an excellent Summer Steam Deck game. It's on sale now...If you haven't...you need to play it. Days Gone and The Division 1 & 2. 3 games that didn't really review well, and had some issues at launch, but all 3 are among my favorites. EVER. Patiently waiting for a Days Gone 2, and a Division 3. I loved Ghost of Tsushima, don't get me wrong...But I think Days Gone was definitely the more interesting play.

I'm with you here. Having the hordes earlier in the game when you're weaker with fewer weapons would've been impossible. It would have also made the game feel very repetitive and extremely boring by the time you join the militia at Crater Lake and are still fighting hordes. I thought the game's slow burn story and progression were a nice change of pace from the other game I was playing at the time, AC Valhalla, which was literally 200 hours of the same thing over and over. These reviewers have truly terrible takes sometimes. I DID appreciate though that Luke made a follow up review apologising for judging Days Gone too harshly at first. also the hordes were there throughout the whole game if I remember. Assuming you know where they were, or just stumbled across them, you were able to fight them from practically the very beginning of the game. It was just near impossible to do so when you had only the early game equipment. I remember trying to fight one some time in the middle of the game and just kept dying before giving up. Though it is true that they don't become part of the story until you're in the last like fifth of the game.
@Billy-bc8pk

@@sanddude20 Yup; you can use a lot of equipment to take out the hordes in the early goings, but it's extremely difficult. I think volume of sales is just as important in this discussion cause if the volume is high enough, it doesn’t matter if Ghost sold more units at full price; the total net profit could be in the same ball park. Also, a high number of after initial release sales tells us that a sequel would be positioned well to sell much better than it’s predecessor; the initial game was breaking new ground and had to stand out. It’s normal for game one to not sell that well in a franchise on initial release. Look at the Dark Souls franchise

@@user-th7yf1yl7vI doubt horizon sold 20 million full price copies same with the last of us. The only one that’s believable in full price figures would be spider man. I’m sure it still sold at least half the amount akin to 4-5 million. Also I believe those figures were from either 21 or 22. Regardless no matter how much I argue it’s not gonna change the disinterest from the company which is really unfortunate. I just don’t understand why they are making a movie then.

@@max_well2077 The PS5 has been doing better than the PS4 at the same time of release. SO even after the scalper situation it was still selling like crazy. This is from data as of 2 days ago. Please note that while I do not agree with everything that Sony has done in this gen, one has to admit that they have been quite on the money for the most part of their decisions thus far. That could change, but for now, one can imagine that the decision makers are being treated (or treating themselves) to healthy bonuses.

My favourite one was when the game needed to load in PS1 level textures sometimes during cutscenes. There is that one scene where the wife gives Deacon a note and the texture was so bad that I couldn't read it, but apparently it was an important plot point as I saw that cutscene online. That game had some pretty awful tech problems on an otherwise solid game. The game itself wasn't amazing and then the tech problems kinda killed it for me.

I remembered seeing Days Gone and being interested due to Sam Witwer being in it, but thinking "Eh, it might not be good, I'll pass." I ended up picking it up on a sale on the PSN, and was very happy with how good it was. It wasn't any one thing that I can point to, it was a bunch of tiny details that it did, that just made the whole quality of life experience so much more fun. Like how the fast travel system was unlocked when you literally cleared the road of threats between 2 points. Until you did that, you couldn't FT there. And when you did clear it, you still had to account for time and fuel in the FT, which meant you still might not make it the whole trip before running out of gas. OR, you might decide to just travel it yourself, because you could usually drive the distance manually MUCH faster than the FT system. And sometimes you were working on a timer, and that was the higher priority. Further in keeping with the bike, I loved how the muffler on your motor was a key component, because loud noises is a BAD thing in a zombie apocalypse, encouraging the player to do things like cut the engine and coast whenever going downhill, both to conserve fuel and to reduce detection from zombies. I loved how the story system worked as these independently tracked arcs that you could track and follow at your own pace. I loved the various supporting cast of characters, who all felt VERY fleshed out and real, even if they were ultimately just a quest dispenser from a mechanical standpoint. I ESPECIALLY loved the character who ends up betraying the party later on, because at first I thought they were going to go against the trope, and not have him end up being a badguy, because nothing he was saying was actually WRONG. In fact, 9 times out of 10, the goal he wanted, and the motivation for that goal, were in line with the protagonist. But for some reason (that I personally think wasn't actually warranted in the script), the protagonist just hated him. But I loved that conflict of "Yeah I don't like you, but I agree with you" that they had going on for the game. Overall, it became one of my favorite zombie survival games of all time. And it is a shame it didn't do well given what we ended up getting.

To be totally fair to Bend studios, this was their first console game before making Uncharted Golden Abyss for the vita handheld and being a vita support studio for some projects. The product they released was very solid but unfortunately it didn’t sell well for whatever reason and majority of its sells came from discounted price months after release. While this was happening Bend devs were very comfortable about talking about a possible sequel even after the poor sell figures. But all of this change the moment John Garvin made the huge mistake to tweet out certain tweets blaming it on social discourse. No matter how you feel he essentially muddied the waters for any possible sequel indefinitely.

He said 7 million copies in the first year and a half. I highly doubt the game was super cheap only a year after launch. Then another million on Steam which would have been full price or close to it for a decent amount of time (6 months or so?). It's been cheap ever since they put it on PS+. It's likely well over 10-12 million units now that it's been on sale for a few years, but I think Sony was expecting 10 million units sold in that first 12-18 month period and they only reached 70% of that. Sony's expectations were too high for a new IP. It may be able to hit those numbers today after so many people have played it on PS+ or through a big sale and there's not nearly as much competition (Sony has zero 1st party games this entire year and usually only have 1 or 2 a year) as there was in the PS4 era when Sony was releasing huge 1st party games on a more regular basis. I think it was worth giving the IP one more shot before killing it. If a sequel didn't sell well and had similar bug issues at launch, then oh well, they gave it a chance and people would understand Sony Bend having to move on. The fact that Days Gone never got that chance is what's pissed players off. There was greatness there. It was just a matter of tapping into it.

Director of the original game already said why sequel isn't happening. It didn't sell well at launch, lots of people got it on sale, for free, or on PC and none of that matters. The launch window (3-6 months) is what matters, if you don't buy it then it doesn't matter when you buy it, it won't tell them you want more.

I remember watching the IGN review that gave Days Gone a 6/10 and I was like "wtf?" because I was only a few hours into the game. I thought it was a solid 8/10... but then I continued to play and I see why they gave it a 6/10. If I'm being honest I feel like IGN was being pretty generous lol... Don't get me wrong, I love Sam Witwer and I was super excited about this game and was even really enjoying the first few hours, but damn bro the story was so ass I genuinely couldn't stand it. I was cringing at every other cutscene but I muscled through because the gameplay loop was fun... then it wasn't anymore. The cracks in the gameplay started to show around 5-6 hrs in for me but I was still having fun, but it was only a few more hrs (around the 10hr mark) where I realized that this was just an open world mobile game without the microtransactions. They tried to do the Far Cry thing but somehow worse and the survival elements were so wack. I liked the idea of maintaining my bike but unfortunately it's just a really shallow mechanic... you just crank a knob when it takes damage. I thought it would be more interesting than that, kinda felt like a useless watered down mechanic. Also, this "oh the game failed bc white man" narrative is just copium lol. Game just didn't do well man, get over it and stop forcing politics into everything.
