Great video and interesting information,I think I'll start using 5-40 full synthetic in the summer and 5-30 in winter. It gets very,very cold here but in the summer it's very hot as well that no one likes to go outside. So it makes sense to use a oil thickness according to the outside temperatures.

There is a very good mechanic guy in my country, quite popular among 350z owners and he recommends 10w50 for daily driving mainly in traffic. It may be strange but it has it upsides. With 5w30 and 5w40 sitting in traffic and accelerating very often it damages camshaft bearing because in these engines it never gets enough oil on these while engine is hot. This kind of oil is like water in these situations. 10w50 on other hand it's working smooth. About Castrol. It's so easy and desirable to make a knockoff product with this brand so it's not recommended in my country to look for it. We use Mobil1 mostly in sports cars as their packaging is not that easy to counterfeit or reuse with other oil in it.

For my VQ37, switched from Pennzoil Ultra Plat 5w30 (can shear down close to a 20 weight) to Mobil 0w40 Euro Formula (shears down close to a 30 weight). Cold idle sounds lowered slightly (could be placebo), but I definitely noticed a lot less tapping/clicking sounds when I rev it out to the redline. Now I plan on running the 0w40 as my winter, and plan on using the Mobil 5w40 Euro Formula as my summer fill, as the tech sheet does say that it is a little thicker at operating temps.

I looked in the manual on my 2004 Z and my 2014 Q60S and neither recommend a 5W40 or 10W40. Both say 5W30 or 10W30. I have tried a 0W40 Euro spec oil from Mobil 1 and it does seem to work really good. Oil pressure does not go insanely high when the car is cold and it seems to make the valve clatter a little quieter once warmed up fully. My brother's BMW calls for this weight. What I find is that the flow is better with 0W-40 when cold while maintaining good oil pressure when the engine is fully warmed up. Now, I am speaking of a daily driver where you probably start the car and start driving down the road with in a minute or two. The big thing with modern Japanese engines is that their clearance between parts is very tight. This is especially true for Honda engines.

I live in a place where the weather goes from 47° C to -12° C in winter. it's a older car from the late 90s, Honda. I looked it up and it says it’s not compatible. According to the manual, it’s not, but these new oils these days are backwards compatible with just about anything like gf-6, what a good seal conditioner to add with that 5/40 you used to make it a high mileage? LM maybe? Also, did you notice any performance differences with the 540 versus 530? My engine is pretty damn quiet right now 540 might make it silent which would be awesome.

two questions: when you say a 40 weight can increase poor fuel economy, you say this bc a thicker oil will be a little more hard on the valve train right? I live in Tennessee and it gets as hot as 90 degrees close to 100 even during the summer so I plan to run a 40 weight, what’s your opinion on running regular 5w40 vs 5w40 high mileage, I assume the high mileage oil has additives that makes the oil last longer than regular? Anyone try out royal purple just picked up some heard it’s thicker, n better for hard use/more power and cleans up the engine 🤷🏽♂️

I heard it cleans up the engine, but I prefer Castrol. Royal costs quite a bit more I believe.

Anyone have experience running 10w30? I live near Palm Springs (CA, US) where temps reach 130 F, and probably reach 40 F in winter since it’s a desert. would 10w30 be good all around? or should i switch to 5w30 for winter. vehicle has 200k+ miles looking for protection from wear and tear without an excessive amount of fuel consumption worried about the oil pump stressing
@AnthonyJ3502 жыл бұрын
Why not just run 5W40 synthetic all year? I run it in my truck and we get much colder Temps.

Is 5w30 full synthetic good for hyndai accent 2010 in Saudi Arabia?
@AnthonyJ3503 жыл бұрын
It should be, that area is a hot climate. What does the owner's manual call for?
@Vinzeefritts3 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 owner's manual says 5w20 or 5w30. But i was thinking of putting 5w40, what is your recommendation. I don't drive much, past 12 years only 150000 kms.
@AnthonyJ3503 жыл бұрын
@@Vinzeefritts I don't know much about that engine so your safest bet is 5W30. Now if the manual is saying 5W30 conventional, 5W40 synthetic should be safe because it can flow as easily as 5W30 conventional.

40 weight will create higher oil pressure...... thats not going to help those weak oil gallery gaskets. Ill stick with 5w30.

Up to you, just use a good quality synthetic like Castrol or Motul. Which do you think flows easier, 5W30 conventional or 5W40 synthetic approved for Porsche?
@NatecoxyАй бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 motul and redline show more wear in the oil analysis I've seen. Unless it's a racecar use castrol. Mobil etc. 5w30
@AnthonyJ350Ай бұрын
@@Natecoxy Need more context. Was it Motul X-Clean or X-Cess? Also Mobil hasn't been that great since the early 2000's and they changed their formula.

@@AnthonyJ350 300v. I use castrol edge 5w30 changed every 5000km. I'd definitely stay away from 5w40. Castrol has a VI of 12@100°c that's plenty thick enough.
@AnthonyJ350Ай бұрын
@@Natecoxy 300V is for racing isn't it? Motul X-Cess would be more apples to apples when comparing wear to Castrol. Run whatever you'd like. I'm just showing in the manual its design will allow 10W40 conventional, so there's no reason you can't run a modern 5W40 synthetic. Especially in applications where ambient temperature is hot and/or the engine is being pushed hard.
