Hey bro! Saw someone else on YT talking trash on this method. Well, I’ve used your method on 4 Gs, as I flip them almost exclusively. I’ve ported the intake and plenum, on all of those. Since I have used the method in this video, after 3 years I have see ZERO blow by or oil sludge in the upper plenum. Just wanted to shout out again. Have a good one.

Just got a G35 and I'm looking for ways to ensure I can have it for years to come. This is EXACTLY the type of thing I was hoping to find. Great reference points straight from Nissan itself so I can properly guage my cars health in terms of oil AND a detailed explanation on how to make the engine less prone to build up. Keeping the inside of the engine clean and cutting back on oil consumption sounds like it's gonna be my first mod now. I feel like I can't thank you enough for making this content, man. :)

@thaihuynh6518
@thaihuynh6518 3 жыл бұрын
@@lizbethmoreno9063 I can't speak for my boy motodyne but for me, it has been working really well. I probably burn about 1 qt of oil every 3000/4,000 miles. Before I was burning maybe 1qt every 1,500 to 2,000 miles. I did have to change the whole system once because I got lazy and let the catch can overfill. It messed up my filter and it was just easier to replace the whole thing. Generally I try to empty it out every month as well as clean the filter with a hose. I live in the Phoenix so it doesn't get very full in the summer but for some reason in the winter it gets full pretty quickly and you see a lot of "gunk" that would be in your engine. Hope that helps!

Hi sir thanks for the info. I just purchased a 2006 g35 6mt revup less than a week ago and been trying to figurenout what to do about the catch can. I have been wanting this car for years and watched several videos about the oil consumption before i even bought it. But anyways my question is i thought catch can setups generally work by utilizing vaccum to suck the blow by into the catch can filter it and send the cleaner air back into intake. Correct me if im wrong but this seems more like almost a pcv delete almost. Just from the crank case ventalation side as well. My question is do you still have yours set up like this and if you do how has it been working for you these past years. And finally do you see and blow by in the catch can ever and if so how much how often.

Thanks for this excellent video! Great explanation. I have a question. My G37 with about 105k miles is smoking from the tail pipe. Pcv valves were clogged and it caused some damage; had to replace both valve cover gaskets. Although that was fixed, it still smokes when I start the car. Could this be gunk residue? Will a catch can help this? If so... what setup do you recommend for the VQ37VHR? I’m so bummed. Started smoking the day after I bought the car. Didn’t smoke on the test drive. Thanks in advance! Motordyne G35, I'm thinking that since I am in California, I would have to undo this setup before I have to go get a smog check. Don't think it would pass the visual smog inspection with the vented catch can. I always wondered why they would set up an engine to suck oil vapors and blow by back in to the intake system in the first place, just seems stupid when they know in the end it can damage your engine due to the sludge build up over time. If they have a chart for it they knew it was an issue.... Anyways looks easy enough to do to my VQ's thanks for the info and clear explanation of the fix. I have a 03 G35 5AT a 05 G35 6MT REVUP and a 04 I35. Many thanks!! G's out!!

Great video. Thanks! I understand how the PCV system works and I understand that it results in making your intake nasty/oily. But I don't understand how using a catch can reduces oil consumption. Would the oil that was being burned in the combustion chamber just be deposited in the catch can? It seems that if the oil dropped 10mm in 1,000 mi before the catch can install, it would still be dropping 10mm on the dipstick in 1,000 mi after the catch can. Am I missing something?
@MotordyneG35

lemmy999 ....no you got it. The problem isn't consumption, but the sludge left behind from the burning of oil. Stop the burning of oil or overtime the sludge left behind from burning so much oil eventually becomes a problem.

Just double checking that even if the previous owner is at ~100K miles I shouldn't need to replace everything followed by a oil catch can correct? 1)Reason it worries me is what if the build up has already started in the engine....? 2)What are some questions that are not directly "does your car have oil consumption issues?" I can ask to maybe get out the truth about that issue? Or a few things I can check that might hint towards that issue?

I heard you want your catch cans to be same height as where the tubing starts so the oil can properly get in. Yours kind of goes up before going back down to the catch can. Assuming this has not given you an issue? Also, the vented catch can is different from how things were back in the day as far as how the vapors get in the air since you have that filter at the top of catch can. How often would that filter need to be cleaned/replaced? If I bought a VQ35 motor, do I just need to make sure I have good compression, then slap this on to avoid related oil consumption issues? Meaning if the pistons/rings were somewhat bad, would this save my motor in a way?
@jamesfarmer5349
@jamesfarmer5349 3 жыл бұрын
No, if you already have pretty bad oil consumption then this will only delay some of the consumption. It isn’t a long term fix or even a short term fix at that. It helps but the VQ has that flaw that can’t be fixed with only catch can. I recommend changing head gasket, and cleaning out piston rings before adding the catch can as that will guarantee a longer oil consumption rate. Anyway I have a 2004 Nissan 350Z, around 107,000 miles and it burns oil moderately but then again it also depends how hard you drive. It’s my baby so I only drive it hard sometimes not too often. For me I burn around 1 quart around 2-3k miles which is significantly better than when I didn’t add my catch can and cleaned out the engine. Good Luck

These VQ motors really start using oil when the cats are starting to go bad, Especially the rev Up, which leads to galley gasket failure and or oil pump failure. If you have no other issues the catch can will help alot. Great Video ! I deleted cats, Did timing kit, galley gaskets, oil pump, water pump, and a catch can. It still uses oil, but i drive 100 miles per day for work. i had alot of people tell me not to plug those ports but i think there full of S**t . that is a beautiful G !

Some countries have warrant of fitness testing & a vented catch can can be failed for emissions so may be why some are running sealed

I think your channel will give me more motivation to mod my Daily 05 g35 once i start warching more of your vids lol, Ive had it for 5 years and always planned on a Skyline (of which ive owned for a year now) & never really put in major work to my G to make it reasonably better, besides exhaust and plenum spacer & just taking care of maintenance etc. If you have more documentation of Exactly how your catch can is set up (since you said theres little more to it) feel free to contact/tell me 👍🏻

Tom Kaos (Official) ....thank you. Here is exactly how I have my vented catch can setup. Only difference is I tucked my vented can behind the windshield washer fluid tank. It is just hanging there supported by 2 rubber hoses running to it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHLTkomAo9Kclbc

Watching these videos has me missing my G. Today, I got hit from the back by a Tesla while I was turning into a gas station. From what I was told my insurance company most likely will total out my car but they will cash me out the blue book of my car. It hurt my heart seeing my Car smashed like that. I’ve had my G for -“almost 5 years now and not once did I have any problems with her. That just shows ab

Very informative, thank you. Being a frenchie, there's a few things I'd like to confirm with you to make sure I install everything correctly. So to start off, I would need to plug the intake tube port and the "front" pcv port. The other pcv port (the one with the valve) would be connected to the vented catch can. Finally, to complete the system, a hose would go from the catch can to the driver side valve cover. Everything is clearly shown in the video except for that last part: where exactly would I have to plug the hose going from the catch can to the valve cover? I'm guessing all I would have to do is to follow the hose that was originally plugged on the intake tube in order to find it? I'm no mechanic so sorry if my question seems a bit dumb

Have you ever took a long road trip with catch can, I have and I had pressure build up and blew my drain plug; not sure if can and lines were too small or what. It worked fine until I took a road trip on highway.

This also, like you said, applies to Infinitis as well. For instance my 2008 M45 Sport is notorious for oil consumption. In fact the engineering data for the VK45 IS A QAURT EVERY 600 MILES IN NORMAL. WTF? 😂

thanks so much wasn't sure if there was 2 pcv valves or not....so if I delete my passenger side and have a vented catch can (plenum port plugged up just like the intake port) my hose just will connect to the drivers side valve cover with no modification? pretty much I'm asking cause I saw a pcv delete video and the guy drilled out the pcv himself and hollowed out the passenger side but I don't remember if he did that to the drivers side or if he jus vented it with a filter (like he did to passenger side) sorry if little confusing thank God you posted this video I was about to buy a non vented catch can or install a jegs air oil separator look at the videos on them they don't have one for g35 but watch the Evo video and you can see how well it works and I know this because on Amazon on he jegs separator a guy posted a pic of it installed in-between the plenum and pcv valve and says it's great and catches every bit of oil I was even thinking of installing non-vented catch can end then in between the couch can and the plenum installing a Jegs air oil separator just to make sure I get every did of oil and sludge that could possibly go back into the plenum.... let me no what you think check out the Jegs separator on Amazon and look at the reviews the only pic on the reviews is it installed on a g35...

My opinion on Jegs air oil separator? Ummm....worthless. With both ports plugged, oil vaper can NOT get into the system. Jegs air oil separator is for a closed system, not a vented system. Both ports plugged is better than any separator, the path of entry is completely closed. The picture in the video, is a hollowed out valve that comes that way. No drilling required. You can still use the PVC if you want, but a PVC delete is better. Yes, the driver side will connect, but the hose will not be long enough. Bring your old short hose to the parts store, find a hose that fits to your desired length.

thanks again for all the info I just watch that other video an wanted to see your opinion on the PCV delete cause in the video he said when you do a PCV delete you are going to need to either tune and/or an idle relearn or w.e he said usually cause the car will act all funny with the delete... did ur car need any of that at all?

No tune for a vented catch can.........bhahahah. He said you may need to do an idle relearn and NO, I did not have to do anything after the install. No tune, No idle relearn, absolutely nothing.

Hi I’m a few years late on this video lol. By the way, where did you put the other hose that was near your intake for the oil catch can? I just recently installed a catch can myself & im definitely going to do it your way. I understand it’s like in the driver side of the valve cover I just don’t know where it’s located. Thanks in advance.
