I was looking on Indeed and it shows CNA with higher pay. At least the jobs that came up in my area. I saw up to 20 dollars an hour where the cert medical Assistant was getting 12 dollars an hours. I don't know if it has anything with covid hitting the job market. I do know before covid it was cma's making more.

Now CNA are earning more than a CMA because they are in higher demand than CMAs so nursing homes and hospitals are paying more to attract cnas

I been a CNA for 3 years now so I’m going to add just a few stuff from my experience. I worked at the hospital and saw everything from working on a med-surg floor to going to work on the ICU and many more . If you want to be an RN please take CNA first , the reason i say this is because as a CNA you’ll see everything you’ll experience if you were an RN. Being a CNA and working at a hospital will really show you if this is the career you want to do. As a CNA I would do blood pressure, glucose test,Check their oxygen, baths, assistance to the restroom, chart and many more . Many CNAS can also draw blood if they have taken phlebotomy and can take out IV’s. Also to add many patients you’ll have them longer than 3 days they can be there from 2 months to 5 months sometimes even longer. I will say you won’t get the same patients every time but it just depends on your assignments for the day. As a CNA you’ll float to other departments which is a good thing because you get to see more things you have not seen before and also you’ll sometimes sit with a patient your 12 hour shift. Also an example Your assignment can range from 9,12,18 or 36 patients depending on how many CNAs they are that day , how many patients your departments has and be prepared to get more patients through out the day sometimes they show up later or one the CNAS gets pulled to sit with a patient or to help another department.i will say this if you’re not prepared to do dirty work I’ll suggest looking at another career only because there will be things that you thought you’ll never see or do. Overall my opinion on the difference between CNA and MA is not that much I feel like MA is more like they can give out shots and work at at a clinic as like CNAs they cannot do that. Either way both are great careers but which ever you want to do depends only on you.

CNA's can work at clinics. A CNA can work anywhere in the medical field. And your right, if they have skills in phlebotomy they can draw blood aswell.

amy robinson that really depends on your state. In my state, California, you cannot draw blood or do anything that has to do with medication, including oxygen.

I am a CNA And I work as a Medical assistant. The jobs are completely different. The medical assistant is equivalent to LPN in the urgent care sitting. I work along side LPN and I do the exact same thing as she does. I get paid 17hr and her 20. Medical assistant don't have to be certified in some states is experience

I am a former CNA. It was a great experience learning how to care for other people. However , it is physically a demanded job and not really well paid. Although, nursing assisting programs are short, I still believe the paid is not worth. It is just my opinion though, I’ve never worked because I did not like it. Now I am a CCMA and I love it and everyday I learn something new that will help me with my BSN program.

Ikr, but my mom is a cna for 4 years and shes still making only 18 per hr.. minimum pay for cnas should be 15 and the maximum pay should be as high as medical assistant which is 30 pe hr

Been a cna for 5 years. I’m thinking of transitioning over to cma. You are spot on with everything. Also every state pays different and in nursing homes you’ll definitely be responsible for 12-15 patients, very physically demanding.

Thank you for this. This is making me feel much better about going for CMA. I used to work as a BHRA (behavioral health recovery attendant) which is sort of like a CNA without the certification. It was at a children's psychiatric facility. The hours were horrible. I would never want to do it again lol. I want to work in the medical field but I want to have consistent hours and spend holidays with my son.

I got my CNA license 2 years ago but I never got a job due to school and family issues. Because of this I cannot renew my license this year😢. I am currently a CNA wanting to be a Future Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and I feel being a CMA will be a better job option for my future career. I feel being a CMA you would get to do more nurse related tasks like drawing blood, taking vitals, checking people in, etc but as a CNA you don’t do very nurse related tasks. I wish I had done my research more before I went with my CNA Program but hopefully soon I can get my CMA. My family thinks me being a CNA is better since I’m going into nursing and that it will be a waste of time but I feel being a CMA will help tremendously with my nursing career. Anyone else agree or am I missing something 😅

To be a CMA I had to get my CNA first at my program that I’m doing, so don’t regret not doing research because you probably had to have your certification in CNA anyways unless it’s different in your state or in your program

In my area CNAs and CMAs get paid roughly around the same. My friend is a housekeeper at a hospital and he gets paid more than the CNAs. I want to work at a prison as an MA but there’s only CNA positions available.

Update in case anyone was wondering: so on the last week before my externship my school got closed bc of the covid 19 pandemic. Hopefully everything goes back to normal. I applied to a hospital in a big city near me and it seems like they could use those help. Hopefully they’ll take me despite my short experience level. I have a hard to choose either CNA or CMA. I got most ideas from u and other recourse on line. CNA program I found is just 350 only VS some colleges charging 17k or 16k for a MA certification or AS degree. I already have a BS in business but I wanted to get into medical industry since my mom and sis are in it already. I found a online MA program and it is on line only but its just 4000 dollars vs 17k in a campus. The on line one is including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant + Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist. It is 12 months and self pace. It is including an externship program as well. What do u think since u are already in it and study it?

First make sure it's Accredited and legit. There's so many schools claiming you will be able to become an MA to be fully online . You need the hands on part. Think about your ultimate goal in healthcare, then go off from there.
