I'm in the same boat as you I went to a tech school and took building trades then I went to job Corps and facilities maintenance I just recently got out of the hospital I lost my appendix and then I had to go through another surgery to have my shunt put back in I enjoyed watching the nurses do what they did to me. out of all my hospital stays this is the first one that has moved me to wanting to go back to school to become a phlebotomist work my way to RN I honestly never thought I would want to go into the medical field but that has changed. I kick myself in the ass for not taking the health care programs at both tri-county and job Corps but then I had no idea that I was going to want go into health care until now.

I loved this video! I can relate. I’m in my early 20’s and I have all my prerequisites done for the RN program. However, I am not able to just quit my full time job and be a full time student because I am independent and they don’t offer part time programs here either in NC. So I have been thinking about going the MA route for now and then maybe trying RN later down the road! Good thing is all my prerequisites are complete! :)

You got this girl! Whatever route you take you can’t do wrong! You will always have a job to rely on! :)

I highly recommend sticking with that RN path love, it’s not only beneficial in the long run, but you can also work your way up to specializing in fields and growing your career, as an MA I love the position but RN is always the base of where you would like to be, you get so much more opportunities and options for way higher pay. Plus the satisfaction of helping humans in need, both career paths are great but if you completed those pre Req’s I’d stick with it! Your almost there

I want to become an RN one day but struggled to figure out how I would get accepted into a program. I also want to have experience before going straight into it. So, I signed up for a CMA program that will start in October. I’m excited to see where this will take me. 😀 Thank you for pointing this out in a video.

Thank you for this! I’ve been so back and forth if I wanna do MA, nursing or sonography. I have 3 kids 4 and under and plan on having another and want to eventually homeschool and just work part time. Sonography school has a lot of prerequisite and only 15 people out of over 100 that have applied get accepted into the school so not sure if I wanna waste time energy and money on prerequisites only to not get in. LPN route makes more sense because there’s a part time LPN school in my area so I could still be with my kids and have time for them, but that takes 2 years to finish and still has some prerequisites, so technically 3 years in total. The medical assistant program is only 10 months long and starts twice a year. Only thing I don’t like about the MA route is the pay is not that great, but I feel like I would love the job! It’s soooo hard to make a decision!
@Bootscootinaly2 жыл бұрын
I will say in that situation LPN may be more worth it long term, especially if you want to eventually only work part time! Thankfully with being a nurse you can make more part time than being an MA. Being an MA is great to rely on as a back up but I think it may be more worth the long term goal to pursue LPN :) the pre reqs only take a few months, you got this!!

Ally thank you! I appreciate any feedback to help me make a decision haha ❤️ medical assistant school sounds nice because it seems easier but it might be worth it to just do lpn because they get payed more and you’re right probably more flexibility! Would you say most companies give yearly raises to MA’s so maybe after like 10 years of working there you could make over $20 an hour?
@Bootscootinaly Жыл бұрын
It honestly depends on where you live & work! I started as an MA making $16 an hour. I then got another job with only 6 month’s experience making $18 an hour. That was in 2020. Now in 2023- MAs are making upwards of $21-$29 an hour starting pay! Obviously you get paid more with more experience. But $21 an hour starting is pretty dang good for only doing a year of school.

This is really good advice. I was looking at CNA training but the pay is at best $13 in Vegas but on avg $11-$12. Medical Assistant pays $15-$17 average. I have been trying to get into RN, but hate the pre-requisites and most programs do seem to be full-time. I wish you best of luck and lots of money in what you do!👍

I want to become a RN but the financial program I’m going through doesn’t offer that. They want me to a MA then go into RN or be a LPN then be a RN. Which option is best?
@DarkAmethystMoon2 жыл бұрын
If you know nursing is what you’re heart desires do LVN/LPN. Then later you can jump into to RN. Why waste money and time doing MA work when you get paid more to do the same and more as an LVN.
@Bootscootinaly Жыл бұрын
If you know your long term goal is to become a nurse, I would say jump the gun & go the LPN to RN route! I became an MA first because I wasn’t sure on if I wanted to become a nurse. I don’t regret the schooling & experience in the field before nursing school- but if you know 100% your long term goal is nursing do it!!!

Hello I know this is a yr old. But did you get your certificate in medical assistant or Associate degree?

Get a certification unless you're going to back to school for nursing.

Medical assistant is a waste of time. Just become a Nurse either LPN or RN. Don’t waste money and time
@Bootscootinaly10 ай бұрын
That’s your opinion, the thousands of medical assistants out there feel otherwise. Medical Assistants are a valued & necessity to the healthcare team.
