I already have the a7iii with the 24-70 gmaster set up and it does get a little heavy on long trips so the a6600 with the 15-55 g lens will be a whole pound lighter. Also started to get into vlogging and having that flip out screen will be helpful.

I’m upgrading from RX100. And though I love the cam for point & shoot purposes, I need more professional shots for my projects. I’m confused which one to choose between A6100, A6400 & the new ZV-E10. I mostly do Travel & Architectural photography. I work as an Architect & I mostly shoot projects including interiors & I sometimes do walkthru videos of my projects of before & after construction/renovation projects for real estate purposes only. I’m not a vlogger but a nice video capability would benefit me as well. But I do mostly still photos. Which one can you recommend? Thanks!

Great run down! So I’m definitely looking to get a Sony full frame down the line like a7iv when it releases and when I’ve gained more experience in shooting photo and video. With that said, I want to make the first steps into learning how to use a camera. Based on your advice against the a6600, would it be crazy for me to get a a6400 this year when it goes on sale for the holidays here in the states? Even with just the kit lens I think I could start growing with it.

A 6400 is one of the best if not THEbest in its price category. Now if you don't do any video you might want to save extra cash and go with the a6100 since its basically the same for photos.

Thanks for making amazing videos always. I have some questions, I just started my youtube. can you recommend me one camera for vlogging between m50 with 11-22 and canon gx7 mark iii? it is said autofocus on gx7 mark iii is really slow and bad for vlogging. what do you think? and do you think sigma 16mm 1.4f is enough for vlogging and I wonder if 16mm with crop body is too narrow-angle. if any of you guys have any experience, please let me know :D

A6400 + 16-50 pancake lens is a powerful camera in a very compact size and weight which keeps a low profile look against theft. Especially here in the Philippines where snatchers and holduppers are always on a lookout for any camera guy with bulky camera bodies and lenses. An A6400 looks like an ordinary digicam if you compare it with the size and looks of A7iii. Adding an 18-135mm kit lens which I already have for my A6000 is still travel-friendly. So yes I might upgrade to A6400 anytime soon. If I'll make a leap I will start building my A7iii system next year because of 693 phase-detect AF points and 425 contrast-detect AF points (compared to 425 phase/ contrast detect AF of A6400) and low light shooting advantages. But I definitely will skip A6600 for the lack of built in flash if I just want to travel light and do selfies. A6000 + built in flash with the pancake lens provides adequate metering and exposure in low light, so I just think the A6400 will be just an awesome upgrade. So for me it's either A6400 or A7iii, no more no less.

At this point I’m dreading the A6600 coming out, because I still don’t know whether to go for the 6600 or the A7III... Sure, full frame would be great, but no flip up screen (which I need), heavier, and recording limit (as far as I’m aware). Screen and recording limit are no-gos for me so as much as I would like to get a full frame, I don’t think that’s going to happen, so A6600 it is. (maybe...)

your color grading is actually good and those are some pretty nice colors. The best value for money here is the sony a6400, it is priced very well. I was actually planning to get the canon m6 mark 2 coming from canon m6 mark 1 but i hesitated because it still does have a recording limit and it has no 24p. Unlimited recording limit is my number 1 need as i shoot gameplay videos which could take 3-5 hours straight. Ill be recording in 1080p at 60fps. Canon is a great lens maker and sony has a hard time beating that. But when it comes to camera features and AI, sony is at an advantage here. Im still keeping my m6 though as i like canon colors on skin tones. Sony a6400 probably won the camera of the year award. haha

My reason for looking at the 6000 series over the A7iii is because I am filming my hunts and will be utilizing the 18-105 PZ lens with a lanc remote for self filming whitetail deer coming in. This lens is the actual reason for staying with the a6000 series. I am new into this so if I am missing something please comment before I make this purchase.

@theTechNotice
@theTechNotice 4 жыл бұрын
Well I know Sony says 'clear image zoom has no effect on image quality' but IT DOES! If you're wanting a good zoom, go for 70-200 f4 or something similar since 105mm will only be ~150mm FF equivalent Where's 200mm will be ~300mm FF equivalent. If that makes sense ;)

The A73 doesn't have real time tracking. Plus you can buy the sigma trinity. This gives you three f2 equivalent lenses - a lightweight compact setup that actually has better AF than the A73. I reckon the price will drop a couple of hundred after Christmas.

I bought the a6600 because I didn't know jack diddly about cameras and figured $1400 put me in the high end for quality pictures. APS-C? What's that? Now...after having it for a bit and learning way more then I did in the beginning, I'm even more pleased with it mainly for it's video quality and no-limit video capabilities plus it's a bad ass "little" take-anywhere-and-get-great-shots camera but now I'm drooling over a full frame a7RIIIA for landscape photography.

I'm gonna buy the a6600. I'm a run and gunner who shoots with Gimbal. I need that video auto focus and ibis. I also shoot with alot of Sigma glass without OSS. Gimbals are great but I've shot with the a6300 for years now and there haven't been a single gimbal that can get rid of the small micro jitters and bumps. Ibis in A6600 isn't great but it does help with those.

So why not move FF and get the A7iii?
@KennethLyVideography
@KennethLyVideography 4 жыл бұрын
@@theTechNotice Mutiple reasons actually. FF-glass is expensive. Selling of all my APS-C glass won't be enough to pay even half of the same set of glass for FF plus the A7III. The video eye autofocus and small size is also super attractive for a run and gunner plus the unlimited recording limit and Z-battery is great when you get called in for shows and plays. Finally, since most clients are very happy with the APS-C look, if I'm gonna upgrade to FF, may aswell go all out, wait for the A7sIII to come out and then buy all the lenses at the same time (once my income can justify it). Then keep the a6600 as a B-camera of course! (The A6000-line is way to good for run and gunning to get rid off)

@@theTechNotice Well one of the main reasons I say the a6600 specifically is the perfect B-cam is the battery. You have one uniform battery between both cameras and they share the same color science. If you're ok with dealing with two different batteries I'd say the a6400 is a better option than the a6500. Still shares the same color science as the A7III and the IBIS in the 65/6600 is basically non-existent.

Your comments on the A6600 need a bit of additional information. Professionals such as myself require both a full frame and crop sensor body in the camera bag. Especially for sports where you might be shooting a 400 f2.8 and 70-200 2.8, the crop body means you also have a 600 f2.8 and 105-300 2.8 on hand. This is a blessing that earns dollars. It means getting the expression on a face in the middle of a playing field from a distance. Sports often are in the evening or night and so the IBIS is a big deal, and for video at any event my cameraman needs to use a headphone and the battery is huge. Thus the A6600 is the only choice for me out of these three. But it will be the combination of battery, headphone, and IBIS which will also drive sales amongst enthusiasts. I suspect it will end up the biggest seller out of the three over the long run despite its greater price but the A6400 will be a close second. It is the A6100 which I think will confuse any buyers except those who only ever buy the cheapest option. IBIS was a big deal for the A6500, but the headphone jack, no more time limits, and bigger battery makes it a killer combination of features that will make the A6600 dwarf A6500 sales. Yes, I will be an early adopter.

Tech Notice I have quite a lot of Sony gear, but for business stills I am still shooting Canon with 1D x and 7D ii, and use Sony for video and for personal use. I will replace the 7D with the 90D. Sadly the Sony gear does not have the durability for a lot of my work. If I am on a rope half way down a mountain cliff I have experience with the banging against the rock face that the 1D x laughs at. I have also experienced sliding down an icy scree with the 1D x and 0-70 2.8 under my back with no damage beyond a destroyed lens hood. So I am waiting for Sony to build pro-level ruggedness into a camera. However, as video becomes the most important part of photography jobs, I am buying more and more Sony gear. I am best described as in transition to the Sony world, but with huge investment in Canon tele glass I will probably never abandon Canon entirely. I use the A7R series for pleasure but hoping Sony one day builds a rugged pro full fame body. I do like it when FF cameras can do a crop, but there is a lot more to APSC than the crop. Smaller sensors bring a lot of things that bigger sensors can’t do. It is why the GH5 is such a brilliant performer. The smaller sensor means the processor can do more. With the first 7D it was a sensor like that - doing more than FF cameras. Sadly Canon went into sleepy mode for a few years and the 7D II wasn’t nearly as revolutionary as it was capable of. The 90D is what the 7D II should have been but management took a decision to start restricting features around that time and they opened the door to Sony. Unfortunately Sony has its own sleepy moments and they are yet to discover that top-pro level of cameras like the 1D series and not be frightened to go bigger and make a camera that can take the hard knocks.

Tech Notice I would be happy enough if Canon grew the cajones big enough to rip the mirror out of the 1D X and tip the balance a little more toward the video end. For me it is less about size reductions, and more about getting full advantage out of an EVF.

I went with the a6600 because on BHphotovideo.com it is still (for 3 months now) only $918 brand new! You need a student email or @edu.com email (I used my friend's email) for the student discount. If it weren't for the student discount, I'd still go for the a6400 over full frame because of it's size. All my photography is during travel (travel the world yearly, except for right now) so a light kit is important to me. I know APS-C shooters are in the minority, but there are only two reasons people go for APS-C: because of size and/or the cost. Some would say they go for APS-C for the reach, but i'd argue that if it weren't for the size/cost then you can go Super 35 mode on a full frame and get the reach anyway (if you can get a A7R). I already spent over $4000 for my APS-C kit so money was not an issue for me, but size is. Again, I know i'm in the minority. My lenses are: 16-55mm F/2.8 G (Workhorse lens) 70-350mm G (Telephoto lens) Sigma 30mm F/1.4 (Night time street photography lens) Sigma 20mm F/2.8 (Inconspicuous lens) Rokinon 12mm F/2.0 (Astrophotography lens) Thank you for all your videos! Tech Notice When Sony goes on for a year or more about “exceeding customer expectations”, “Professional APSC”, and then does a Canon on us with the current release of 4 year old completely recycled crap, That offends me! Sony apparently has decided to rest on its laurels while flat out lying about their true intentions for APSC! The only professional APSC cameras currently available are the Fujis! Next week they will be joined by the Sony a7RIV at 26mp. And that constitutes an outrageously expensive solution to get a professional APSC camera. So with Sony’s, Canon’s, and Nikon’s failure to serve the desires of users, it’s time for someone to enter this nearly vacant marketing space! I nominate GODOX. They make great flashes! Samsung could easily dominate this space, but they probably won’t! Godox, please enter the market with a professional APSC camera and delight camera enthusiasts while decimating the current price structure of the market!
