My understanding: the unemployment situation is not bad but the quality of employment is not good. There's lot of underemployment.

There can never be underemployment. Easy to acquire paper degree/certificate is often confused as proof of skill. You get what your skill deserves. So the quality of employment is the result of the quality of your skill and the uniqueness of your talent.

Indian job aspiration: A goverment "desk job" that does not have performance pressures (no layoff even if I am inefficient) and has excellent potential to make under-table income. It is not a system but a mindset of "US" at the core of all ills in society.

Can someone explain to me what they mean by "fixed panel of houses"?? In case of CMIE Does it mean that the same houses get surveyed multiple times in a year or is it something completely different??

I am surprised. How they come up with this numbers? We were never part of such data collection. I have registered myself with employment exchange. Never heard anything from them.

India has one of the lowest female labor force participation rates in the world, at about 25%. China = 60% Vietnam = 74% Philippines = 45% Bangladesh = 42% Saudi Arabia = 34%

Yes, I know many women who keep their career off for a while during maternity and often the continue to do informal work. I'm not sure if the target of a country should be that everyone should work, but maybe help formalise the informal sector so that targeted interventions could be done to improve economic activity.

Lekha Chakraborty, senior economist at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, said joblessness among the educated, especially among women, is a significant problem in India. "This is due to three reasons: lack of comprehensive 'care economy' infrastructure policies, rigid social norms, and lack of adequate skills," "If we incorporate the care economy in macroeconomic policies, the overall economic well-being of the country will increase. Concrete measures are needed to address labor market discrimination against women and marginalized social groups." She explained.
