If the cheese and butter are made from dairy, they are NOT Vegan.
@shiasworld84097 жыл бұрын
Why would I buy dairy at all? I assumed the VEGAN was implied. My Dollar Tree sells regular butter, yogurt, cheese, and eggs, I don't eat that because I'm vegan. I was saying if they decided to sell cheese or butter( VEGAN of course), then I wouldn't have to go to the only place I can get all of my non-dairy items. I've been vegan for 3 years, and I only refer to vegan foods when I mention something since that's the only foods I eat.

Just a few tips from my experience. The crunchy taco shells are usually pretty crushed and sometimes stale so I usually plan to use them crushed and baked in a taco casserole. Works great. The soft tortillas usually stick together so don't just rip into them, instead separate them carefully. And last, if you're going to get the pretzels, buy the pretzel sticks. For some reason they aren't ever stale, but the regular pretzels have been stale every time I've bought them. :)
@idontcare-sf1vb7 жыл бұрын
Mitzi Farchette thanks so much for the suggestions :)
@Kittygagarcia16 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the tips, also just an FYI do you usually bake the taco shells before consumption? usually people don't prep the shells in the oven and eat them straight from the box and for that reason they taste stale because they're not fully cooked through.
@Calipicker6 жыл бұрын
I get the tostada shells instead because they are usually not stale. And you can visually see if they are crushed or not. My local dollar tree doesn't have it so I go to a 99cent store instead for tostada shells and much more

@kash87547 жыл бұрын
Jaimie theres an app available for iphone users (im not sure if its for androids) called Is It Vegan. You use the app’s camera and scan the barcode of whatever food you want and it’ll tell you if it’s vegan, vegetarian, etc. I officially went vegan on the first day of the year and that app has helped me a lot!! I totally recommend it if you need help figuring out the ingredients for a food. With this app, i dont have to worry about overlooking a non vegan ingredient within the ingredients list. Hopefully, it’ll help you too.

Scared? You just can read ingredient labels and not be lacking in food knowledge. If you make a mistake, your body won't care, sure might be less healthy. It's more troublesome for people's digestive systems that basically forgot certain things from eating vegan for many years. Oh and it's seven months later...are you still a dietary vegan or have you moved up to whole-food plant-based?
@sharono2974 жыл бұрын

I make smoothies with the frozen fruit and the coconut water. The Dollar store has like, literally saved my life. I am disabled, and live on an extremely tight budget. So, shopping there has allowed me to eat healthy! I also get my bottled water there. The steamer bowls with the vented tops are PERFECT for microwaving the frozen veggies. Annika Wolfe I think he's saying that while he does eat a vegan friendly diet, he is not vegan. Because veganism is not a diet, it's a way of living/thinking. And while you can eat vegan friendly foods, that doesn't make you a vegan. Because you might not actually care about animals being slaughtered. Some people eat a plant-based diet just for personal health or for the environment.

NojoNinja you’re thinking of whole food plant based. Plant based means you eat plant based or vegan food but don’t take part in the vegan lifestyle like purchasing non-food vegan items, avoiding sugar processed with bone char, or eating a plant based patty whose company tested on animals. Those are just a few examples.

Daniel Dickerson If you plan to eat enough veggies to buy them in bulk and you have an Aldi near, that is a fantastic option. I can buy 2 weeks worth of good, healthy food for like $20. You just have to commit to eating it all because you buy your veggies in bulk instead of singles.

I like how try to keep it out of Sarcasm Land when reading the ingredients lists! Sadly, beggars--like me--can't be choosers. Well, we still can be choosers about being animal friendly, if not health friendly. Seeing this, I think with some strategy and some discount fresh produce, one can cobble together some cheap, nutritious meals. TFP : )

All these cheap foods with their huge lists of chemicals will kill you much faster than eating all the meat in the world. People were made to live off meat..we weren't made to live of flours and toxic chemicals. I understand poverty doesn't give you many choices..but it would be much healthier to eat even the cheapest cuts of meat and eggs than most of the garbage shown in this video. Don't sacrifice your health over an unnatural fad such as veganism.

+tamcon72 - Please feel free to illustrate SPECIFICALLY how what I said was incorrect. I hold two Masters degrees including an MBA..and a Doctorate in medicine..so I feel very confident I can defend my positions since I have research to back them up. I am also a business person who has owned several successful companies. Add to that my extensive travels around the world..including working for the Peace Corp and Green Peace..and I do believe I have enough knowledge of different cultures to sustain my points of view. All I ask is that you behave like an adult and not a child..refrain from name calling..and stick to the subject matter. I am well known and respected on KZbin..because I can back up everything I say. Looking forward to your reply..which I am sure will be fantastic and wonderful to read..and will surely include links from non-vegan/objective sites to back them up. 😉

+ *Nightbird* So you were serious? Please post the research--bear in mind we have probably already encountered it somewhere--concluding that "people were made to live off meat," and that "it would be much healthier to eat even the cheapest cuts of meat and eggs than most of the garbage shown in this video." I won't even expect any evidence backing up the first statement, as it is not supported by paleontological research to date. As for the second statement, I grant you that there is a lot of junky food in this video, but then it isn't typical of a plant-based, nor a vegan, diet. It is suggested by way of illustrating that the common meater idea that vegan food is expensive is false. How much nutrition training did your doctorate of medicine provide? If adequate, you would be aware of the reams of research concerning the health damaging effects of an animal-based diet, which, because it _is_ some of the cheapest food available in the States, is directly correlated with unfavorable health outcomes among the demographics that shop at dollar stores. Your business education/experience, though it may be a considerable accomplishment, apparently did not include American economics, or you would be aware that it is poor _omnivores_ ,whose diets feature tons of those "cheapest" meat and eggs and dairy, who shop for cheap plant foods at dollar stores. I would be surprised if your rebuttal is clinical or fair, as the closing salvo in your op, referring to veganism as a "fad"--ridiculous in every sense of the word--confirms a bias so compelling, it has driven you to condescendingly lecture total strangers who have nothing to do with you about their lifestyle choices. Why carnists insist on coming to vegan YT and inserting their opinions into comments threads, is a mystery to me. It's futile.

tamcon72 ik im kinda late to the party but just wanted to say that there is no doubt that a *whole food* vegan diet is the healthiest diet period (as in eating primarily whole grains, legumes, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, &plant proteins). Granted, eating certain food from the vid thats full of sugar and chemicals is probably as unhealthy as eating meat, eggs, and dairy, but the guy that commented on you before said something to the same affect as if the guy in the video was yelling "everything vegan is healthy" the whole time. In reality he made several comments throughout the vid noting that many of the foods were not natural, nongmo or organic and were full of sugar and chemicals, but the vid was SIMPLY to show that you can be vegan on a budget. Obviously, omninores can eat "healthy" to and extent, but as they still eat meets eggs etc., any omnivorous diet cannot be as healthy as a whole food plant based diet. Meat eaters (and I say this as a meat eater myself) continue to make excuses to justify eating meat, eggs, and dairy because meat tastes good. Arguments such as veganism is expensive is absolutely debunked by this video. Another common argument is humans were made to eat meat, but actually humans were made so that they CAN eat meat if they so choose to, or if their life situations require them, but we don't HAVE to eat meat and research shows that although we can live off of meat, no diet, include vegetarianism or pescetarianism can be as healthy as a plant based whole food diet. 😊

I think Trader Joe’s has added a few vegan items. I just picked up a refrigerated turmeric salad dressing marked Vegan. Lots of date/apricot & date/coconut bites.

This is awesome! I’ve been wanting to eat more of a plant-based diet (for ethical, environmental and health reasons) but it always feels like it just isn’t cost-effective. I didn’t realize just how many vegan-friendly foods were sitting at Dollar Tree, of all places! Thanks for the head’s up!

Thanks again for another insightful video. @veganzombie. But be mindful the Monet crackers have enzymes, which may be rennet (beef) or pepsin (pork). And we have to be careful assuming some of these corporations who also process animals on their equipment are thoroughly washing, or washing equipment at all, before they process vegan items on that equipment.

The enzymes are all vegan friendly. From fungal and bacteria.

Just looked it up. The brand is Chef Ernesto. It is a product of India. The ingredients look relatively healthy. Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Palm Oil), Carrots, Green Beans, Corn, Bell Peppers, Onions, Salt, Green Peppers, Sugar, Ginger, Cellulose Gum, Spices, Citric Acid, Turmeric & Mustard Seeds. No artificial ingredient which is pretty amazing for a dollar.

I can't afford a $8 vegan cheesecake or a $6 pint or vegan ice cream... $14 goes to potatoes apples and carrots . Don't get me started on meat substitutions, b12 vitamin supplements and protein powders. I got to make $110 last a week sometimes a week and a half near the end of the month because of all bills. I got 3 mouths to feed &live on the poverty line. My husband has a good job but things aren't very cheap. We are very fugal barely making ends meet.
