I bought a Classic Black dial with silver sub dials. I love it, it is definitely “grab and go” and I have to say the water rating may very well be correct because the pushers are very stiff. There’s almost a “click” to them, very satisfying to use. It also looks stellar on a nato.
@stratonwatchco5 жыл бұрын
@Jody thanks for the honest review! Regarding the 200m WR, on a chrono you do not have to have screw down pushers. The Syncro model is also 200m WR and has no screw down pushers. We use a double gasket pusher system which works perfectly fine for under water use :) Regards Kyle

Your transparency and honesty about sponsorship is very much appreciated. I have less trust in TGV anymore, since his 'partnership' with watchbox. Not saying you can't make money or get watches for the time and effort you put in a channel, but just be honest about it. And since legislation is lacking, some people will do what benefits themselves the most. Enough ranting, thx for your honesty and again a great video.

Straton has come out with some inspired designs. The Synchro is the one that connected with me. The 40mm silver/blue colorway with the racing bezel looks and wears great, and the Mechaquartz movement rocks like early Van Halen.

I picked up the 40mm classic driver panda (ver c) a couple of months ago and have been very happy with it. Looks and wears great. There is only one other quartz watch in my collection at the moment so it's great to have something else that I can just throw on in a hurry without having to worry about setting the time. A VK63 mecha quartz would have been nicer, but it doesn't worry me too much in a watch like this.

Another great and honest review Jody. My Daily Driver is a 2006 (Victorinox) Swiss Army Chrono Classic 241122. I bought this watch in January 2004 for $650.00 (MSRP was $895.00). It runs on an ETA G10.211 Quartz chronograph movement (4 jewel 21,600 BPH). I have replaced the battery three times in 15 years, and thanks to Victorinox's outstanding QC it still runs and looks like new. I've gone into so much detail because fine examples show up on the pre-owed market for $100-$300 quite often. It's a used buyers dream chrono. Take it from me, a 15 year old Vic is 10 times the quality and will last a lifetime. You owe it to yourself to take a look at a used Vic before pulling the trigger on a new Straton.

The more mechanicals I buy, the more I start to drift to quartz. I appreciate both. I prefer mechanical. A watch is fashionable but also a tool so sometimes a screw driver and sometimes a drill. Additionally, I have never had a problem with a quartz watch in 40 years. I still have crappy Fossil watches and Timex watches I bought when I was a kid and they still work. Whereas I would say I have issues with one out of five mechanical watches I have owned. Maybe just bad luck. When it comes to micro brands, I am mostly buying for the design in my price range so I like it when there is a cheaper and lighter quartz option.

My current daily driver is unusually a TW Steel Grandeur Tech Valentino Rossi edition quartz chronograph. It massive (48mm) but luckily I have large wrists and can carry it off ok. It is on a very comfortable rubber strap. I would never have paid anywhere near the £525 sterling RRP for a quartz watch. I bought this pre owned on eBay. Came with original box and paperwork and to be honest looks brand new all for £47 sterling. It’s the third TW Steel chronograph I have bought in the last 3 months the cheapest of which was £41 and the most expensive was £54 but that one was in fact brand new.

These are $249 now on his web page. Another $25 off for first time customers. No sales tax and free shipping to the US. I think that’s a fabulous price to own a watch only a few hundred people or more own. Plus, I really like the design. I purchased the 40mm in blue. Kyle actually responded to a few of my emails. That was kind of him. Personally, I love the idea of micro brands and the “one man show.” I think it’s cooler to own a micro brand watch than it is to own a similarly priced Seiko or Citizen or Orient. Don’t get me wrong, I own an Alpinist and a Khaki King so I am not a total hipster. Plus, I like supporting the litttle guy/girl.

thanks for another nice review. best part was about the quartz-snobs stopping after two minutes. Been a straton-fan for some time. I own a curve-chrone and been thinking about a 'special' for some time. This design is also nice however maybe in some colourway less 'unique' for current models as the other pieces. For a hundred less or some more specs it would really be worth considering (the design SCREAMS for doubledome and a more unige bracelett would have been great). Until then I will keep to my Seiko SNDC89P2 as my daily-driver - similiar style watch/design, quartz chrono for around 100 bucks.

I think Kyle is a cool guy and I love his story and his watches. (saw him interviewed by the owner of NTH) I’m also a petrol head and unfortunately remember the 70’s, so retro and the styling works for me. One day I may take the plunge, but these models are a bit Straton Lite if you like. Sorry Kyle.

Mechanical chronos are wonderful things but they are heavy, thick, and expensive. Plus, they can have issues. I’ll take the cheaper, thinner, and more reliable quartz option for a chrono any day. You’ll likely spend more time in a week or a month fussing with any automatic watch than it will take to change a battery every three years. That said, I understand what you are saying and also agree.
