Bolts are 10-32 UNF countersunk (allen or cross head) high tensile with 10-32 nylock nuts. Buy from a decent fastener supplier and get whatever length you need and save $$$ Wheel nuts are 5/16 UNF 24tpi 'T' or 'Thin' type nyloc Truck kingpin nuts are 3/8 UNF 24tpi 'T' or 'Thin' type nylock

The width of the deck isn't going to factor into the hardware length. What is going to factor in is how many plies your deck has, the thickness of your baseplate, and if you're using risers or not. If you have a normal 7-ply deck (almost all decks are 7-ply) with no riser pads, you can use 7/8 hardware, but you could also do 1 inch just to give yourself a buffer. I hope that helps! - Tim

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here. Are you saying that your hardware is too loose and your trucks are wiggling side to side? Or are you saying your axle nuts are too tight and your wheels don't spin? If your hardware bolts are loose and your trucks are shifting, then just tighten the nut down with your screwdriver and 3/8 wrench. If your axle nuts are too tight, then loosen them just a little with at 1/2 inch wrench till the wheel spins freely. I hope that answered your question. What is the alloys that we should use on skateboard hardware. You mention in the video that the regular hardware stores don't have the hardware alloys required for skateboarding. What material (alloys) should they be?

Most skateboard hardware is UNF 10-32 Grade-8 bolts made of 18-8 stainless steel, referring to a grade of stainless steel with approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. I remember going to the hardware store as a kid to get replacement hardware for my board, and I would break 2 a day. It was ridiculously annoying, of course I was just getting whatever nuts and bolts would fit and didn't really know any better. Plus buying a full set of lock-nuts and bolts from the hardware store didn't end up being any cheaper than just getting a pack of Independent hardware. 🤔 I'm sure a hardware store would have proper bolts, but you'd have to know what you're looking for. I assume you have a standard 7-ply deck (almost all skate decks are 7-ply), so with no risers you can use 7/8 inch hardware or 1 inch just to be safe. The Loaded deck is pretty thin because of the carbon fiber layers, but the truck baseplates are kind of thick, so maybe go with 1 1/8 inch just to be safe.

Definitely don't do that! Just tighten the bolts more until the tapered heads counter sink into the deck a little. You'll have to tighten the hardware bolts from both sides so they actually tighten instead of spinning in place. That's all you have to do, unless you have dome headed hardware that won't sink in, then you'll just need to get different hardware. I hope that helps! - Tim

You meant 1/4 (0.25)" risers right? With 1/4" risers the smallest you can use is 1 1/8 (1.125)" hardware, but you could go up to 1 1/4 (1.25)" just to be safe. Cheers! - Tim

Hey I just built a new setup. Running 55mm wheels on Thunder Hollow Lights. It's still on the way. Do you think I'll need 1/8 risers to avoid wheel bite? Therefore 1" hardware. If I don't use risers would you go 7/8" or 1" hardware? Lastly why do most pro street skaters not run risers is it kinda not cool to, or is it because they typically run 52mm wheels and don't need risers? Thanks!

If you like your trucks really loose, then it might be a good idea to have some risers so you're not constantly getting wheelbite. If you're not going to use the risers, 7/8th is the smallest you can use, but using 1 inch hardware without risers is completely fine. There are plenty of Pros that use risers, and it just depends on their style and where they are. If they're the type of pro that does a bunch of tech stuff with small wheels and only skates perfectly smooth California spots, then they might not use them. But if they're skating Portland or UK crust, then they are probably using bigger wheels with risers. There's nothing "uncool" about risers, it's just about your preferences. I hope that helps! It's gonna vary depending on the set up. If the board doesn't have riser pads, you'd probably be fine with some 1 1/4 inch hardware, but if the deck is extra thick, or there are some tall riser pads, you'll have to get longer hardware to accommodate for it. If you want to be really sure, just measure the thickness of your board, along with the height of the riser and baseplate. Then get some hardware that's about 1/4 inch longer than that so the nut has some threads mount onto. I hope that helps! I'm sorry I can't give you a direct answer, but each set up is different. What is the function of the risers? Also I seem to have trouble tightening the nuts on the wheels. If im gonna let em spin the nuts are too loose, and if I just tighten them up a little there is no spin at all. Is it due to the bearings being put in incorrectly? They looked the same on both sides. But the wheels fell off when I tried it out and now I need new nuts lol

The riser pads are there to give more clearance between the top of your wheel and the bottom of your deck. This is so that if you turn very sharply or land with your weight on one side the deck, it is less likely to pinch the underside of the deck and put on the brakes. Usually it's called wheelbite when the wheel touches the underside of the deck and it can cause you to fall. As far as the axle nuts go, it sounds like the nuts are just stripped and you need some new ones. Make sure you get actual locknut axle nuts (the ones that come stock on all trucks) because regular nuts (without the nylon lock) wont stay tightened at all. I hope that helps!🛹👍 Cheers! - Tim

I have venture high trucks with 56 mm wheels, I feel very high off the ground and my hardware is loosening and falling off. I have bones 7/8 hardware. Does the height of the trucks affect the hardware issue?

Nope, the overall height of the axle doesn't factor into it. You only have to factor in the the thickness of the deck and baseplate. So if you have an unusually thick board or baseplate, the 7/8 hardware might not be able to tighten enough to reach the nylon lock. 7/8 hardware usually works with 7-ply decks and standard skateboard trucks, but you could get 1-inch hardware to give yourself a little bit of a buffer. The decks never come with divots for the hardware. You have to just keep tightening the hardware till it sinks in flush. But don't over tighten to where the top of the bolt is below the top ply. 👍- Tim

Yes, if you let the hardware get super loose, the 7/8 hardware will fall out sooner than 1 inch simply because there aren't as many threads. But you'd have to let it get super loose before then. Usually you'll notice the hardware making a rattling sound long before it gets so loose that it'll fall off completely, so it's not really something to be super concerned with. But if it makes you nervous, then just get the 1 inch hardware. 👍 Cheers! - Tim

Are the plies very dense? Is it a Flight deck board or a fiberglass longboard deck? If the plies are denser than regular maple, it's sometimes difficult to countersink the hardware till it's flush. So I guess just try to tighten the hardware a little more until it's flush with the top. Unless you have dome headed hardware, then you'd just have to get different hardware. You can still skate it like that, but I agree that it's annoying when they stick out a little. You're gonna have to find a way to brute force tighten it by either by using your screwdriver or 3/8 wrench on the nut side. If your hardware is stripped and it's making it impossible to tighten fully, then you should probably get some new hardware which fortunately is super cheap. I hope this helps a little! - Tim

So the board width doesn't factor into the hardware length. What does factor into the hardware length is how many plies the deck has, and whether or not your using risers. I'm assuming you have a standard 7-ply deck (most skateboards have 7 plies), so with no riser pads the smallest hardware you can use is 7/8 of an inch. If you have risers, then you have to get longer hardware to accommodate for the extra thickness. I hope that helps!

Talk about hardware under griptape, or hardware over griptape? I say under because you would never put grit under a screw head in any other application.

The bolts should definitely over the grip, because the hardware nuts loosen from the vibrations of riding and need to be tightened regularly. If the bolt heads are under the grip, you can't use the Phillips/Allen head to stabilize the bolt as you tighten the lock nut and the bolt just spins in place rather than the nut tightening. The stickiness of the griptape won't hold the top of the bolt hard enough to fully tighten the hardware. Also, if you wanted to keep your hardware when switching boards, you would have to remove the old grip off the deck in order to retrieve the bolts, and peeling grip is a pain in the butt! 😆 Cheers! - Tim

What are colored cross bolts used for? Can they used to differentiate the front vs the back end of the deck with different colored cross bolts for example? If so, what configuration is best/popular or is it a matter of preference? Thx ﾍ( °ω°)ー

It's completely preference. I like to have 2 coloreds bolts towards the nose so I can immediately determine the front/back, but you can do whatever you want. Cheers! - Tim
