My great grandpa was a preacher during the Depression. He’d go around hayseed towns in the Midwest, holding sermons outside of bars and train stations, surviving off what little food people could spare. Eventually he packed it in to join the Navy, but for several years he was basically a hobo with a bible and a big heart. Needless to say, this crap makes my blood boil. Stephen King couldn’t write a more scathing or gross caricature of religion. Idk much about the Bible but I’m pretty sure John the Baptist lived in the desert off locusts and honey, not in a mansion sipping on champagne. Ugh 🙄

@TheGr8erPurpose3 жыл бұрын
Written conveniently by Go Explore the Bible : 1. Favoritism is inconsistent with God’s character. Impartiality is an attribute of God. He is absolutely and totally impartial in dealing with people. “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God, showing no partiality and taking no bribe” (Deut. 10:17). “For there is no favoritism with God” (Rom. 2:11). “There is no favoritism with him (Eph. 6:9). “Now I truly understand that God doesn’t show favoritism” (Acts 10:34). Showing favoritism is inconsistent with God’s character, antithetical to the gospel, and therefore incompatible with “faith in our glorious Jesus Christ” (Jas. 2:1). 2. Favoritism is contrary to God’s values. James addressed a situation in which believers gave preferential treatment to the rich (2:2-3). What would motivate this kind of behavior? Is it not because these believers valued the rich more than they valued the poor? They would rather have the rich attend their church than the poor, and their treatment of the rich and of the poor reflected their values. James reminded his readers that their values were not God’s values: “Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? Yet you have dishonored the poor” (2:5-6). They were acting in a way that was contrary to God’s values. In a message on the evil of favoritism in the church, John MacArthur said: “We tend to put everyone in some kind of stratified category, higher or lower than other people. It has to do with their looks. It has to do with their wardrobe. It has to do with the kind of car they drive, the kind of house they live in; sometimes it has to do with their race, sometimes with their social status, sometimes outward characteristics of personality. All of those things with God are non-issues. They are of no significance at all. They mean absolutely nothing to Him.” (gty.org) 3. Favoritism is sin. James makes clear that favoritism is not simply disrespectful of people; it is sin against God. “If … you show favoritism, you commit sin” (Jas. 2:9). It is sin because it is contrary to the character and command of God. Because favoritism is sin, there is no place for it in the hearts of God’s people, and certainly no place for it in the church. God bless you all and may He keep you all who reads.

@Ilia Ros for what i've learn, you take what you think is good and leave what's not, follow voice in your heart, always questions the answers others told you and look everything at different perspective, for learning about god, you need to understand those who didn't believe, and when you see a red flag on someone that you seek guidance to, turn your back and warn those you think have strayed, not with screams or violence or acts of belittling others, but with kindness and words of worries, and if that doesn't affected them, pray for their safety and blessings And for me there is 2 red flag : 1. When those told you to bring harm to others 2. If their action is opposite of what they've been preaching or believing

Positions of power will attract narcissistic, abusive people, whether it's political power, religious power, business, entertainment, etc. This isn't specific to just the church or mega-churches. I've worked in the Christian music industry for years, and I've met some absolute monsters, but I've also met some amazing genuine people who are honestly trying to help people. It bothers me that people like Carl Lentz, John Crist, Carmen, etc. essentially discredit the work of people who genuinely want to make a difference.

Former pastor's kid here. The concept of pastoral burnout is pretty well-known by people who grew up in church. It doesn't always have to be the result of scandal and degeneracy, as in this video's example. It's a high-stress, low-paying job (generally) that can wear people out over time. Burnout doesn't always end in loss of faith; one can reach a point when he just doesn't want to be a pastor any more, but still believe in Christ.
@JoseHernandez-he2yc2 жыл бұрын
I believe a LOT of People are called to be Pastors but they dont answer the calling so the weight falls on a few and thats where the burn-out happens. Now you walk in and all the doors are locked, even to the sanctuary, my million dollar cousin is on day star yet my mother pulls her groceries home in a cart because she can't afford a car. My million dollar family does not call to see if we even need a ride to church, they are stuck up and selfish, I still love Jesus and I worry about how they will be judged in the end. Last time I looked up his net worth it was 1.2 million , must be nice, making all that money off of God's word which is exactly what Jesus warned us of!!! As a 13yo I didn’t know the details and when I told my parents they basically said that they’d get back to me. I worked a “job” for three years that required a background check (to make the parents feel confident in the people that they trust their kids to) without ever being asked again for a background check. This was all around the time that the Catholic Church issues were coming into public purview, so I think that is was mostly face to show that they were doing something, when in reality, they were not.

Such creeps. Its all so bizarre. I don't think it's really too uncommon though. I used to go to a church where the pastor's wife was doing the women's counseling when they were having issues. Later the Pastor's wife up and left him and the story comes out. One of the women had started making a habit of calling the Pastor's wife at all hours and having breakdowns where the Pastor's wife said she needed to go help her and would end up staying gone all night. This started happening a lot. Finally the Pastor had enough and told his wife she was not going to go out in the middle of the night like that. She told him she was going, and she did. They had a big falling out, she totally left him AND we found out began living in a relationship with the other woman, who left her husband too. THEN one of the other wives left her husband because the Pastor and she were having an affair, AND that woman just happened to be the sister of the woman the Pastor's wife ran off with! They ended up getting married and are to this day, and they have a "ministry". So the church split up in multiple ways with a bout half leaving to continue supporting the adulterous Pastor. Another church I went to the Pastor was big into boy's youth ministry. As probably expected, he was having sex with every boy he could, as well as getting caught cruising certain areas in town for anonymous sexual encounters. Every time he would get caught he made a big show out of asking God's forgiveness and there would be a huge prayer meeting where he would be cleansed , and miraculously God took away all his urges...until he got caught again and again. I went to another where the Pastor went off for some sort of retreat and ended up having some sort of mystical experience except the spiritual experience inspired him to leave his wife and the congregation to be with the woman who was leading the retreat. I finally, thankfully, had enough of all that and called it quits with the Church. Good riddence.

Woah slow down. You brought up so much that was completely unrelated to the issue. You're pissed to the point of "Cancelling" Madea because Tyler helped someone out with their rent? I could understand your reaction if you were like the cheated on spouse🤣. But damn man, since we're not involved in this, why should we care the slightest bit about Carl fucking up his marriage? That shits between him and his wife, not you, me or Tyler Perry. It's not even our business nor place to judge. So let's let Tyler do with his money whatever legal things he wants to. And pretend we're not all up in someone else's personal business that we had no right to be in to begin with, for real🤣

It’s sad how these types of churches absorb so much good will from people through donations and use it towards mansions and extravagant lifestyles for their pastors. People who want to do good are tricked into thinking they are and don’t actually help anyone like they want to.

I’ve been a victim of a pastor doing something similar to this when I was in a mega church & you can NOT let one person decision dictate your love for the church. That’s exactly how evil creeps in just one to hurt the many .
