I was at train station with all those students departing. There was a rule children and women first, no exceptions. I didn't exclude racial prejudice though, but I saw almost no girl students in a queue, they were passed after mothers with children. Naturally, mothers with children were mostly Ukrainians, so it looked like Trevor said.

I'm eastern european and i feel so sorry for all people being discriminated against and prevented from reaching our safe borders. Some of them had been fleeing from another war back in their homecountry only for war to find them again in Europe and be stuck reliving that trauma. How horrible. Happy to see big groups of third country nationals finally making it safely into Romania and being treated with care same as the Ukrainian women and children who have lost their home. Many of the people at the Romanian border are volunteers offering their homes and businesses absolutely free. This fills me with hope.

Just want to point out that not all Eastern European countries have rejected refugees from the Middle East and Africa. Romania, for instance, has accepted all Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees that requested asylum in recent years. Romania also accepted a significant number of African and Indian refugees coming from Ukraine during the last 8 days, some of which were turned down by Hungary and by Poland.
@swanpride

Yep. It is also nothing new that Poland and the Ukraine were a-holes during the Refugee crisis. What we have now with just taking those people in, we could have had in 2015 too if not for those countries blocking every attempt in the direction.

Hungary and Poland are the worst and were very vocal about letting in darker skinned war refugees. And there are reports of Ukrainians pushing Nigerians off buses to go wait their turn. Both countries signed the 1951 (and follow up '67) UN convention on the rights of refugees and to at least not stop freedom of movement. War refugees are not economic migrants and should be protected equally. As one UN member said on AJE today, the UN considers all refugees to be human beings escaping persecution or war and deserve equal treatment.

It's a shame that messaging is the problem with the notion "defund the police." NATURALLY the RW dog whistlers confabulated that into "eliminate the police" rather than what it's REALLY about, reroute funding to agencies that more effectively confront instances that police don't have the proper resources to deal with effectively. The ONLY things they have are arrest and/or injury. So "defund the police" was always a misnomer.

In my country there are many 100.000 people that have been given a early pension ( these probably mostly Danish people and many probably in their 30 ties when they got it ) BUT ! the problem is they should never been given that, they are just lazy and social workers got tired of bothering with them, and so gave them a pension. I know people now around 60 years old, in their life they have worked less than i have had the flu as a child,,,,,,, all cuz my country are nice to all people, also lazy parasites and criminals,,,,, and we should not be nice to people like that, we should give them a job at best. The law here now state you must work for your welfare, but very few do this, and i have never seen a refugee immigrant do that, or at least not one that are easy to spot as they come from a warmer climate. BUT ! First of all i do of course blame myself, then my politicians, and then i might also blame people that get here and dont even come close to grasping the massive chance they have gotten. Those that have a embrace / give a hug and a thumbs up, cuz i only ask of other people they try,,,,,, but many people here dont even try, i wonder how they get out of bed in the afternoon.

Regarding foreigners who were not allowed on the train from Ukraine. The train was filled with women and children, among the women there were also foreigners. Men could leave only after women, children, the disabled and the elderly were evacuated. Many videos show the customs officers explaining this to them, but they continue to force their way into the train, ignoring the warnings. It's unfair that in this story you only showed the side of the foreigners, ignoring the video of them pushing women away to get on the train.

All women and children will not get on the same train. Therefore, if the train is full, it is not allowed anymore. I understand that there is panic, and all people are scared, regardless of race. But all foreigners who wanted to evacuate eventually evacuated when places appeared. If not, I ask you to provide me with proof that the foreigners who wanted to leave did not leave because of racism and not because of the shelling.

I studied with many foreigners at the university. The negative attitude towards some foreigners was, but not because of the color of the skin. Often they treated female professors badly and dismissively. They also made a big noise on campus. And when they were reprimanded, they shouted about racism, although if some Ukrainian had allowed himself such behavior, he could have been expelled. My friend who sang on stage in student government is from Jordan. And all international students who were respectful of other people were welcomed by the student community. Once, foreign student accused me of racism when I reprimanded him for skipping the line in the office. He said "it's because I'm black". No, it's because you skip the line! In Ukraine, I met racism, but, no matter how paradoxical it may sound, racism was towards Ukrainians.

It was so unkind and condescending,” al-Attar said as her voice shook. After several hours of walking in sub-zero temperatures, the group of young students was cold, hungry, and exhausted. They approached a service station to buy food and use the toilet, but again they were “pushed back for not being Ukrainian”, said Saber. “When we tried to queue, shop owners told us to wait until all Ukrainians had been served. When they were done, we found nothing but crisps on the shelves,” said Saber.

I think that you must have misunderstood what they said on the news about people of color and the Ukraine. People of color aren't trying to get into the Ukraine. People of the Ukraine are evacuating their country and the near by country's that are taking them in said, that they didn't want to take in any other refugees from other parts of the world right now, like (I can't remember the name of the country) but, they were from the middle east or Africa... or something... I think that they just don't have enough resources or room for more people. The Ukraine is trying to evacuate millions of people because Russia is invading their country and bombing their cities. People are being killed in Ukraine... people of color don't want to relocate to Ukraine.

This is amazing even with consideration for the underlying psychological and cultural factors at play in the difference between the offered support and acceptance of refugees. Information by media and reaction from scholars, result in denial of the occuring injustice and lack of selfreflection, which is massive in Western European countries at this point. You just showed it in the last few days, and scholars who mention it are met with so much resistance that it begs the question to what extent racism denial isn't just part of and a measure of culturally ingrained racism. After centuries of this, despite growing education, understanding and cultural change in the modern age, it's hard to keep contributing this behaviour to nurture. More reseach would seem fitting. Reactions to Thea Hilhorst, a university professor in the Netherlands concerned with humanitarion aid can be found online, but unfortunately can not be linked here by adding the url.

Humans naturally form in groups and out groups. Often your in groups start with your family and distantly related community. Racism is a natural end point of this process if you apply these rules very strictly. I have not had a shared common ancestor with most subsaharan populations for maybe as long as 120,000 years. That's almost enough time to potentially be considered different subspecies. (Probably still need like another 100,000 years tbh, at least) Even me and a Chinese person are probably only genetically split by like 60,000 years. It is natural to not be motivated to treat an unrelated population with extra kindness for no reason. How would that help ones survival? The fact that we aren't wildly more racist is the nurture part. It takes a lot of effort to rewire the human brain to love everyone. But obviously its worth the effort, hence why we work so hard at it.
