Maybe she was sick that day or something. There is no a single doubt she herself authorised pitch correction. This stuff happens all the time. If singer is a worldwide star and is on a tour with strict schedule you should understand no singer can perform at the very best all the time every second or third night. Now I've checked Taylor Swift's tour dates and she performs on February 7 to 10 e4very night in Tokyo. Is it possible she will pull out a single show without lip sync, backing vocal recording and live pitch correction? No. These are truly shows not concerts. And I will add Celine Dion is far from the very best singers in the world, like you or not. Her voice sounds unnaturally high meaning she always needs to heavily strain voice cords with every song because most of pop songs are destined to be heard in isolation. And vast majority of songs performed are hits non-stop with very little to no window for a rest. The public judges. If they content with lip sync and artificially tuned voices, what's your problem? I will add even without pitch correction her voice on recordings and on live performances always is manipulated so likely you never ever heard her natural singing.

I am impressed by her voice even if there's no autotune or pitch correction she expresses her own songs emotion and for me they should let her sing her own way, I know that pitch correction is needed when a singer is struggling but at the same time Celine's natural voice takes over the performance, she is natural the way she is, she's a talented and gifted singer who doesn't need those kind of voice autocorrection or something, you are truly honest and I am so proud for you for entertaining us and doing music industry service!

I think they already can't tell, they've grown up with it being the norm. There's always comments how singers are "perfect" on videos which transparently use autotune, though there is also the phenomenom of people *wanting* the performances to be perfect when it's "their" singer (eg: objectively their worst songs are also perfect, going by comments)

I know that a lot of artists are super talented, there's no argument there, but it is so cool what you are exposing! When people are trying to pass impossible notes and vocals off as their own, discouraging other singers because they simply can't compete. Obviously this isn't going to make a lot of fans happy, but still, it's happening and it's important for people to know.

It's very common for artists to use autotune in live performances. I think the heavy use of autotune on records has created an unrealistic expectation of perfection all the time, which is unnatural. I love Celine Dion, and I saw her live performance the day after her mom died, and I can say it wouldn't surprised me if she approved the use of pitch correction. There is a clip where she responds defensively about complaints of artists lipsyncing on what are supposed to "live performances." She tells the reporter that lipsync has been around for a while, and it will continue to be around for a while. She has been my top artist for 4 years on a row on Spotify, but I recognize that she has done things in the studio that are hard to replicate consistently and effectively on live performances without the the aid of technology. She generally lipssyncs the high note in "The Power of Love"; and in the case of "All By Myself", the climax is also generally lipsynced. It doesn't take away from the fact that she is a phenomenal singer. It's just that the voice, for any singer, is a very delicate instrument. Pop music demands a lot of singing habits from singers that negatively affects the longevity of the voice. Just like David Foster said if Celine couldn't hit the high note in "All By Myself" he would get Whitney Houston to do it, even after Celine said that note was not part of her range, she still pushed herself to sing the note.

If this modification was due to illness when a scheduled concert was imminent I accept it. If this was a one off mod I accept it. If this was some mechanical experimemt to test the audience' response I accept it (see: Cher: Do You Believe In Love After Love). Was this mod for the entire concert or just that song? Its weird, unsettling and I've never come across this, save for Fils channel here. I do believe that Ms. Dion is made aware of all the details pre performances and that her experience, intelligence, and talent, dictate HER decisions. Remember that Ms. Dion is a huge profit maker for any venue. She employs a slew of lawyers that dedicate to her and want to keep that salary. Reaching this level of stardom is exceptional and BIG business. The idea that Ms. Dion did not agree to or was unaware of the mechanical modificarions is without merit. ❤

I’m a huge Céline fan… and it’s actually terrible what they do to her voice on her dvd releases. Trust me all of us hardcore fans hate it. Her “A New Day” and “Taking Chances” dvd vocals are just ruined. They over process them and completely strip them of her natural vibrato and tone. She does use some prerecorded live tracks during her concerts and they even auto-tune / pitch correct those afterwards for the dvd... whereas they are natural tracks when you hear them live (however in recent years they have just been auto-tuned/pitch correct for the concert). It’s a shame… some of the worst vocal production I’ve ever heard honestly.

Celine Dion is not my taste in music, but what a voice. This is all so sad. I've maybe mentioned before that I know a little girl who had likely not heard much in her short life that wasn't pitch corrected or auto-tuned and I showed her a song that wasn't. I tried explaining in 7 year old language that most of what she hears is people having their voice changed by machines. I told her that it used to be singers had to work hard to sound good. She wanted to hear someone who sounded good without machines and who worked for it. I showed her Bobby Hatfield's live performance of Unchained Melody. She didn't move or make a sound, transfixed through the whole thing. As soon as it was over, she said 'wow, that was so GOOD!' Then, she called her mom and asked her to put it on her playlist. Her parents told me she listens to it constantly. Young kids and teens who hear autotune and pitch correction all the time actually prefer it by some point. :( I'm doing my small part to let the youngest generation know what's happening! I promised her my record collection when I'm gone. She's promised to care for it as I have. That reminds me - as more and more time goes on, I am so glad I have the vast record collection I have - none with manipulated vocals. Or at least not fundamentally changed vocals. Maybe someday record albums like this will hold a lot of value when the day is here that no one *isn't* auto-tuned or pitch corrected. They're already relics! Keep exposing this horrible direction the industry has gone in, Fil!

Imagine pitch-correcting Eva Cassidys recording of Songbird ! Or Amy Winehouse singing Love is a loosing game. The horrible idea that 100 cents per halfnote actually works within a chordalsystem. Its an absolute lack of competence and deeper knowledge of the pure physics of the properties of the many attempts that predated the final conclusion for the Equal tempered system that as early as in the time of Bach was followed by an interpretation tradition. You can find all kinds of barockean instruments with a lot of extra keys e.t.c. Before tonalsystem the Lute with "MOVEABLE FRETS" was the main instrument for theoretical reasoning and composers first hand instrument. It was a long lasting discussion before the final decision was accepted. Maybe it was a good decision but everebody with ears knew that it had to be interpretated.

I was a working professional singer for many years in the old days, and it drives me crazy that musicians and certainly DJ types of producers have little to no knowledge of voices, especially women's voices. When it comes to pitch, what is not understood is a voice has overtones and undertones. That does not mean you are hitting a note off pitch. It involves emotional intent, how much the singer controls the vebrato on a word, how the vowels are hit, and how the consonants are formed. Listen to Sinatra, how he sang consonants. The human voice is much more complex because your body is the instrument. Auto pitch is an atrocity!!! Thank you for educating all of us about music and AI.

It has probably been asked before, but looking at your lines and the pitches that are corrrected to the lines, I wonder if I misunderstood music theory. I know we have equally tempered pianos, but that is a compromise. In all music we have chords which notes by definition do not fit all on their lines, because they are harmonics. Does that not mean that if you sing another note than the key that the music is in at that moment, you should be a bit sharp or flat to sing the 'correct' note? I.e. unless you are an electronic device.
@pcno2832

As I read it, when doing chords or harmonies (or Phil Spector's old trick of using to bass notes forth or fifth apart to mimic a note too low to get through a small radio speaker), a perfect fourth or perfect fifth will sound best to most people if they are exactly 4/3 and 3/2 the base frequency, so it sometimes makes sense to tune guitar strings perfect fourths and fifths from each other. But if you do a scale using those notes, you have to correct the progression up to the next octave at some point , maybe following the 5 "semitones" that make a perfect fourth with the 7 "semitones" that make a perfect fifth (with 4/3 times 3/2 being 2). But if you play a tune with those notes, as opposed to chords, some of the transitions will sound off. But (1.06)**5 is close enough to 4/3 and (1.06)**7 is close enough to 3/2, that it will still sound OK with the "tempered" tuning of a piano and so given that keyboard instruments can't be re-tuned for every performance (or at least the acoustic ones couldn't), it made sense just to leave them with tempered tuning. So, could one sing or play a tune, with every semitone the 5th-root of 4/3 or the seventh-root of 3/2? I would think so, but each note up or down from the starting one would be further off, relative to anything that's evenly tuned and the octaves would no longer vary by factors of exactly 2.
