What to do when BIRDS ATTACK!! | 3 ways to get your drone to SAFETY!

There have been lots of cases of people encountering birds when flying their drone, and are then met with the potential issue of having a crash. Here is what you should do in these scary situations, in order to keep both your drone and the birds safe from harm!

Never go down always up. Birds show dominance by height and going up will give that sense. Birds attack by coming down on their prey using their claws. When birds get aggressive or curious just put your done in sport mode and fly up. I fly with Eagles and Hawks all the time and the footage I get is amazing!

Eagles almost took my mini 2 today. I used sports mode and came down rapidly to get out of that situation.

Nice video man, I have read about other pilots using red reflective tape as well as red lume cube strobe lights in order to deter birds from attacking the drone. Feom what I understand, most members of the animal kingdom associate the colour red with aggression, and therefore avoid it, including birds. I have had my fair share of birds trying to attack my drone, including swarms of swallows like the ones you showed in your video, In turn, I managed to simply increase altitude and move out of the way, faster than they can catch me. It definitely works but is not a permanent solution, the red reflective tape / red strobe lights however are a true deterrent.

Good Tips Rocco. Fortunately I haven't had that problem yet. I have watched some videos of bird attacks on drones. Unless like a hawk. You would think any bird smaller would stay away from the big orange machine. Those props could surely clip off a wing or 2. Saw some post you were going for your part 107 license. Good luck with that.

Yeah most birds wouldn't be a problem if they did decide to actually attack, but I don't want to kill any haha. The Evo certainly is powerful! And yep, I'm planning to get my Part 107 this summer hopefully 👍

Took my drone out for the first time yesterday and had a hawk come swooping down towards it. Luckily it got spooked last minute but that was definitely unexpected. Hence why I'm on this video lol

Same here, no bird has ever dared to swoop on my quads. My high pitch bi-blades sound scary loud on just 4s and frightening on 6s

I have had several red tail hawks and eagles give chase over the years. Pigeons are also aggressive. Had a sparrow dart into side of phantom and dislodge battery.

Nice info! Believe it or not, I get very curious humming birds from time to time. I think it's the noise the props or motors are making???

The DJI FPV seems to scare most birds. I've never had a problem. Even with the hawks.

I have seen channels such as Ken Heron put giant Eye Stickers on their drone. Apparently it does deter birds from what they say, your shiny tape idea sounds interesting too.

the main reason why you should not go down when birds are trying to attack is that its basically an invitation to dive bomb the drone. (for prey birds). Going up is what you need to do

Well explained. Just as a matter of interest a common pigeon can fly a speed of over 90 miles an hour and can fly a height of 1 mile (6000 feet). Those birds in your video look like swallows, i often see them here in Ireland in summer. They are normally just curious, but i move away from the area just in case.

Ive noticed flying by bridges like that seems to have those aggressive little sparrow type birds. If you thought you got swarmed. Im gonna have to post my video. Lol. They do seem smart enough not to throw themselves into the props. But you never know.. 🙄 im more afraid of the big predator birds that can take my drone out of the sky with ease.. hope it never happens fly safe. Good idea for a video you beat me too it. Lol

When I deal with gulls, I usually change the direction rapidly. It feels like gulls cannot change their directions as rapidly as a drone can. I usually zig zag it and when I see a small window, I make a dash. Another one I do and this works for skuas as well, is when I see one circling around I just lower the altitude immediately and cross the waterline as fast as I can. They seem to not care much once you cross the waterline. Maybe they see it as less of a competitor for food. But when I see several gulls around the area, I just forget about flying it all together. Wish drones had bird repellent. Mavic Mini isn't loud enough to repel them :/ And then there are bees..... The only thing you can do is just land asap. They won't follow you once you've landed.

Thanks! Been there several times. Last time, two hawks got pretty close. They were more curious than angry I’m guessing. Other birds didn’t really scare me. This time I sort of panicked and just headed back as quick as possible in standard mode. Didn’t think I had time to go into settings to hit ludicrous mode, which I hate on my Evo. Damn thing should be on the screen and not in settings! Next time, I will try to increase altitude quickly and then go into settings to change to ludicrous mode. Maybe Autel will allow the switch to be added to a rear option button on a future firmware update. 😅😅
