Chase, great display of patience in this episode. I know you wanted to interject quite a few times, but didn't. I know Shane valued you taking the time to listen.

Yes Chase! Your answer gave me a bunch to chew on. Shane... thanks for being honest! As a husband, dad and someone who loves photography I've wrestled with these kinda thoughts lately. That question of "Do I press on or do I pack it in?" has been very real to myself these last couple months. THANKS FOR KEEPING IT REAL.

This might be my favorite episode, and it's because of a few things. First off, the subject matter was fantastic. Chase's answer is so on point. But, the thing that got me was how Chase just let this guy get things out. He recognized that he was frustrated, and let him talk, just enough, before getting in there and taking control of the convo. It was fantastic to watch

This was awesome! I really appreciate that because I’m on Shane’s boat. I’m a new father and I moved from nyC to Florida so I had to literally reboot and start from scratch as me being a portrait photographer and had to go back to working for something I don’t like but I’m good at to support the family. This was very encouraging and I’m gonna take a read from those books and continue my journey. Thank you Chase

Good advice. We all (most of us) need a reality check now and then. Progress is not always a straight path.

I just had the "fuck me! O_O" moment! Not in a dirty sense, but when Shane was talking about how he loves to shoot fine art photos and finding that passion in photos again and then remembering your talk in another video about focusing the portfolio to the work we want to do - this is where it hit me just now! I was struggling figuring out what I want to shoot as I do a lot of things and my website is a mess (dogs, people, location, products, interiors, exteriors, detail, nature, etc) and the thing I love to shoot the most would be shit that I'd love to see hanging on walls - little details of the world around us we don't pay too much attention to, close-ups and isolated views of buildings and nature. I walk around looking for that inspiring angle, for that symmetry, for the composition... and I love it. And I think this is where I'll need to focus... Thanks for this, Chase! Been following (more like stalking) you since those days of your Aspen shoots and helicopter rides and I'm really grateful for the content you provide! :)

I've been asking myself lately, should I give up trying to get a job in marketing. Yes I'm great at it and I still believing it. I will keep knocking the door! Thanks Chase!

Excellent advice and even more excellent is your delivery, Chase. A photography career, whether full or part time, is cyclical, so yes, it's absolutely necessary to have other work going on. It doesn't necessarily have to be something completely separate from photography. Teaching is what did it - and still does - for me, both my own workshops as well as teaching a local arts center. Also, your market is some bearing on your success as well. The suburbs north of Dallas I know well. It's all portrait and some high end commercial work territory. Fine art nature? Not so much. But overall great advice and kudos to Shane for his honesty and enthusiasm.

Not that I expect an answer from anybody or solution but hey if you can provide one bring it on!(be harsh, be honest) I'm 28 years old and thought my whole life my dad is dead and have no bigger family, meet my dad 7 years ago over the phone! He is alive and lives in the USA. I made a couple trips over! I came to the USA not for family but to stop the old habits 9/5jobs etc. So far it worked. In 2 Years, Build tables, Imported phone cases, sold cars with profit i basically did everything and worked everything on the side... But I realized I need a teacher/mentor to bring me to the next level ( i looked on sharper for meeting people etc. everyone is self-centered). I also learned I have to focus on 1 craft.. because I can't afford being good/okay in everything. I know my strengths and weakness and i found out my strengths. So decided to focus on Photo and video editing... I learn more and more and get better but i need something and i don't know what... Fitzaey UrlaubAuswandernMitFitz . I also got a website Newforeigner .com Currently, i plan too much and have so many things to work on and ideas to could work on. I don't even know for what to ask for... luxury of choise is a pain in the ass..

This channel like every "Reality Show" is, and will always be, at the expense of those opening up and putting themselves on the line. It's just more sensationalism, which far too many with out real lives, seem to crave these days.
