Pack a box your parents can send you of just essential things you'll need in tech school. Do Not bring it to BMT

I just graduated and left today, so sorry I couldn’t reply and help you out! Packing wasn’t as complicated as they made it seem! For anyone who still hasn’t shipped out yet, I plan on putting out an updated packing list when I can! :)

Hi!! I loved the video but I’ve always been told no contacts only glasses at bmt at all, so I would double check that with your recruiter :)

You can bring contacts to wear after you finish basic training.

Hey Megan ! So, yes this is mostly the case. But, if you don’t have glasses, you are allowed to wear contacts until they issue you glasses! It’s in the regulations mainly because you can’t force someone not to wear them if it’s their only mode of being able to see, which is especially important for people like me who are blind as can be!😅

Yay so exciting! Yes you may, they do also allow you to get some compression shorts there which were pretty good. You’re allowed to wear the shorts, just no full length or Capri!

are you allowed joggers? every time i'd go to MEPS, they'd always be yelling at recruits over comfy pants. even one time, processing staff made someone shipping out change out of his comfy pants *gulp*

We were! And I saw it a lot in other flights too. It might just be your MEPS location is more strict. I would say bring a pair of stretchy jeans to leave MEPs and then you can always change. But there were a ton of people in more comfortable clothes, just make sure they’re not too baggy or tight and you should be fine.

I just bought some comfortable ones from Walmart or other places! Not too baggy not too tight and you’ll be good! Stick it neutral colors so you don’t stand out! Don’t need to bring jeans or nice clothes

What’s your ASVAB score and how did you study for it ?

I personally scored on the high side and I’d say it depends! I would say if you’re new out of high school, you shouldn’t have to study much. But if you’re like me, study math and science to brush up on it. Just knowing how to do those weird problems you no longer use, helps a bunch!

Bring a good razor. Just spoke to my recruiter. Whatever your recruiter said is BS. If you have a razor you like, bring it. They have shitty ones at the BX AND BRING ENOUGH FOR 8 WEEKS.

Razors are fine! Maybe he meant straight razors or electric? You also have the chance to buy it at the mini BX run when you get there but there will only be 1 option. They bring this to you because of covid!

Im 18 and i want to enlist at the end of this summer. i’m not sure if i want to go into the air force or the marines. any advice?

Biased opinion but, I’d go for the AF! More opportunity and I think jobs will connect more to the outside world (dependent on what you get). I’m loving it so far! Something to remember about the service, that not everyone seemed to understand first off; is that the way they train you has meaning, try not to question it too much and also, serving is a selfless act. Yes we benefit, but try not to get it twisted that they owe us or we deserve certain treatment. Always always stay humble out in the world, as well as around your peers, and it’ll get you far! We’re all here working towards the mission and it’s important not to lose sight of that. That got a little sentimental but I hope maybe that helped! Let me know if you have any other questions!

The navy is a little different when it comes to training but BMT wasn’t too hard at all, mainly just mental and emotional strength! But I also went during Covid so it may have been a little different.
